8-8-8 Why in the heck isn't that 3 separate leagues?? MUCH better when your trophy says League Champion instead of Division Champion. Willard.... you keep saying that "it's better when your trophy says League Champion instead of Division Champion". Well, because that is your opinion does not make it a fact. I honestly don't think that the kids care what you call it.... SBC Champs, SBC River Champs, SBC Lake Champs, SBC Bay Champs. I love this new mega-league. It offers so much flexibility and security. With so many schools changing leagues all the time, it's nice to know that even if some schools leave the SBC it can still survive.

Danbury and Gibsonburg will be new members of the SBC - River division. Is Gibsonburg speculation or has there been an actual announcement?

Does anyone know if they officially awarded Bay and River Division Team Champions at this year's tourney? I see that SMCC scored the most team points of the River schools and was curious if they were officially awarded?

Yet they are perfectly fine with playing against the big boys in all the other sports? Either you're up or you're not. Other than that having nothing to do with what was being talked about... Margaretta moves up to Bay in other sports because there are 3 non-football playing schools in the River. It only makes sense to move some schools around to make the number of teams in each division more equal. Clearly Football is the sport most affected by school size with the sheer roster size / number of starters needed. One of the big benefits to this mega-league is the ability to be flexible. Does it really matter if Margaretta and Willard play in the River for football and Bay for everything else? It certainly doesn't benefit them to play larger schools in all the other sports. The larger schools shouldn't want to play smaller schools in football anyway because of the computer points. There are no computer points in the other sports so it really doesn't matter who you play to make the playoffs.

I was told all games played outside of the divisions (Bay, Lake, or River) is considered a non conference games. Each division is their own league. Huron (Bay) has a non conference game @ Margaretta (River), next football season. Going to Castalia sure beats a bus trip half way across state for a non conference game. These cross over games maybe convenient for travel but will not help with playoff points if every is playing each other and not spreading the wealth. Basically what will happen is teams will play each other and no outside points will come in less making the playoffs. Clyde non conference -East Wood, TC and a Toledo City (just an example). I am sure someone will probably prove my theory wrong, what I don't understand is why Margaretta was so adamant about getting out of the old SBC but is now playing cross over against Norwalk and Huron. What I don't understand is why people are confused about Margaretta wanting out of the old SBC. It sucks but times change, Margaretta is now significantly smaller than they were in the 80's-early 90's. Hell, they are 19 boys away from being D VII. Moving to the River Division of the new SBC for football still only makes them the third largest school. Why on earth would they want to stay in a league with D III and D IV schools when they can play league games against teams closer in size? There's a big difference in playing two non-conference crossover games against larger schools vs. playing 6 conference games against larger schools. Here is a little exercise for you... Pretend that you are the AD of a brand new school... we'll call it Margaretta. Since this school is new, it does not have a history with any League. As AD, you are charged with finding a League to compete in (your school is D6 and has 119 boys.) You are presented with two options: League A: Clyde(314 boys), Perkins(267), PC(241), Huron(207), Edison(197), Oak Harbor(181) League B: Willard(169), Lakota(148), St. Mary(61), Calvert(61), St. Joseph(54) Ok AD, which league looks to provide a better competitive balance for your school of 119 boys?

Bottom line, Bellevue does not offer Soccer because the are afraid of what that would do to their Football program. Whether that is a good thing or not is a matter of opinion. My point is, don't call other schools "balless" for not wanting to play you in football when you are afraid to offer soccer. That certainly DOES signal weakness/fear..... Not sure how it can signal anything else. Who are YOU trying to kid?

This is going to be a great league. Good job SBC in forming this and doing such a great job making things better for your area schools that joined and to all the balless schools that won't play our school that is the same size = division IV!!!! It's a joke. The travel doesn't bother me as a fan but it sure doesn't help the schools for transportation expenses for the next two years. Week #1 = vs Canton Central Catholic (1hr 52min drive) Week #2 = @ Clear Fork (1hr 20min drive) Week #3 = @ West Holmes (1hr 40min drive) Week #4 = @ Shelby (only 50min drive not bad but the only way they would play us is if we played them as Shelby next year which makes us have 6 away games and we played at Shelby this year) Week #5 = vs Toledo Start (1hr 6min) Remaining league games against all Division III schools which we have played for years and a great test for our football team. Division IV schools in bay league that won't play us! port Clinton oak harbor vermillion huron (said they couldn't get out of contract with another school, I'm sure that broke there heart)Good luck BIGRED!!!! You complain that other D4 schools won't play Bellevue, but you know the one thing you fail to point out? Bellevue may be a D4 team; however, they have a huge advantage over PC, OH, Ver and Huron due to the fact that Bellevue hordes their athletes by not allowing Soccer. With the other schools you mention, soccer pulls 20-40 athletes away from their pool of potential football players. Pull that many athletes out of Bellevue's program and see how strong they are. Maybe the Redmen should sack-up and compete in all the sports most other schools their size play?
