They trash talk an 18 year veteran coach with only 4 losing seasons. When he vacates the position, the best applicant they can get is a coach with 2 years of experience and a 12-35 resume.

Actually, Ridgedale has been an EXCELLENT proving ground for a crap ton of successful coaches. Some had success while at Ridgedale, others had a bunch of success after leaving Ridgedale. The jury is out on Nathon Loney, just as it was on Steve Gray and Greg Nossaman.... Read and LEARN, Brownie and Dude. crawfordcountybasketball.com/ridgedalewinloss.html

BTW, how old are you and is your hard drive anywhere near full? I think I could retire with a nickel for every basketball game you’ve watched.

For me there is no jury for Coach Loney. The verdict should be given to the Shelby fans that their opening did not draw the applicants they thought it.
But if you are insinuating that those two coaches have had success because they started at Ridgedale, you need to stop your day drinking.

I think he was countering that good coaches HAVE come out of Ridgedale. You an another poster implied that hiring a coach who formerly coached at Ridgedale was less than ideal. He very easily gave two examples contradicting that position. I don’t think he intended to say a good outcome was a guarantee. You guys should go back and study Venn diagrams.

In my posting, coming from Ridgedale was just stating a fact. If I was trying to imply anything it was coming from the numbers 12-35.

Shelby is going to get derailed by every team in the MOAC with Pugh as a leader. He is a selfish player who thinks he is a point guard when he can’t dribble or pass and is slower than a two leg dog. And every time he shoots the ball he can’t see with all of that hair in his face. Only good thing that Tj Pugh can do is sit on the bench while everyone else struggles to not get some balls dropped in their mouth. Just look at Seneca East and how much they improved when they lost this bum. He is becoming a liability for the whippets.

Does anyone know who was given an interview? . Rice and Nelson both interviewed If those are the only 3 that means only one person applied with head coach experience. I did hear another name mentioned which could have been a 4th. I had heard that Nelson has interest in the Plymouth job.

^^ I was told he had the Plymouth job. Can't swear it's true or not. He is a teacher there and did apply. But on another thread I saw that Troy Keene was looking to get back into coaching. It makes sense he would try to return to Big Red.

I last saw Troy Keene Christmas day. He told me himself he was getting the coaching itch again and the job he really wanted was the Willard girls job. That was obviously before the Willard job was even open.

Brownsguy and Dude If you don’t live in Shelby then stop commenting on Shelby running Schwemley out. You obviously don’t have any insight into many of the reasons it was time for a change.

I don't have to live on a farm to know that cow crap smells. And to some people it’s $$$. It’s all about perspective. It can be waste or fertilizer. There may be some perspective that you don’t have. I can tell you there are issues that are at play that probably made this a necessary move. Some legit and some not. The legit ones have merit. Those that aren’t still enhanced his growing negative perception. Sometimes perception > reality.

I never claimed it wasn't useful or profitable. Only that I don't have to live there to know that it smells. But I do agree with you, perspective is what it's all about. Special when parents are looking at their own kids versus someone else's kid.

Have been gone from the area for a few years and hadn’t heard anything outrages in regards to “issues” among the community. Personally wasn’t a big fan of the guy but that’s because of personal experiences and those are of my own. Just like most coaches at any level some click with the coach and some don’t.

As a coach I believe you accept some public scrutiny. You’re a local celebrity. Having said that I’m not going to discuss specifics on a public forum. I try to respect people’s privacy. Generally I’ll say this. Being a good coach requires you be good at several things. Passion for the game I give him an A. I’ve played against him and watched him coach. He’s intense. X’s and O’s a B-. He’s good enough to win. I think he overtrains the boys a bit which wears them out by the end of the season. Interpersonal relationships D. That’s what has hurt him. He doesn’t manage personnel, player personalities, parental expectations, or the public very well. It’s slowly undermined his credibility. I could give specifics here that aren’t personal if anyone is interested. You can say he shouldn’t have to explain his decision, but you’d be wrong. He’s a public figure coaching kids at a public school. He needs to manage people and their expectations and that’s his weakness. I have a guy who every time he comes into my office he has a problem he thinks needs narcotics. He never gets them. He has an expectation that I never meet yet he keeps coming to see me. I manage his expectations, but never give him exactly what he wants because I know what’s best for him and it ain’t Percocet.

If you had a few more boys and a couples girls to experience some more coaches you may find that a high percentage of them are not social giants but are good coaches. It can be amazing how someone can say THEY know what is best for someone but yet tell another they do not have the same ability. You grade for X's and O's motivates me to ask a questions. What personal or professional experience do you have that qualifies you to be able to evaluate an 18 year veteran coach? I do see your points on being a public figure and the obvious presence of public scrutiny, but what gives your opinion value or merit?
Before someone flies off the handle I will say that I know who fan is and respect him as a father and a professional.

Before someone flies off the handle I will say that I know who fan is and respect him as a father and a professional. It wasn't asked of me, but I have my inputs. Perhaps my obscure opinion adds validity to the question. Maybe not. Probably better than that bozo Whipp53's opinion or whoever that toddler is. He has generally done a good job of implementing schematic changes to fit the team's personnel and the opponent's style. I've seen it first-hand and through others' insights. I personally don't think it is too difficult to observe these things if one pays specific attention to what is happening during a game. I haven't seen enough games from the past several years to attest to this, but I can't imagine Schwemley suddenly lost his grasp on this. Having professional experience in this would help such an evaluation, but it isn't required. A professional experience may enhance one's ability to determine what *could* have been done, but the lack of such experience doesn't disqualify one's ability to determine what *has* been done with an offense. I have seen offensive behaviors in Ontario games that work pretty well at attacking weaknesses in Ontario's defenses (even though a half-time adjustment from Balogh took care of things). One thing Schwemley has is the relative openness to change his X's and O's if he sees a good idea. That's a plus. I have pointed out on here several times that a hallmark of Schwemley's teams is their ability to not bottom out. If you remove the overconditioning (valid) and roster attrition (valid), there's a case to be made that his teams could have squeezed out 1-3 more wins a year. I believe this to be a level-headed take.
