How do the middle school teams look around the area, our 7th grade and 8th grade shelby teams look pretty talented....any thoughts from anyone else?

In the MOAC Clear Fork I believe won it last years 7th grade becoming 8th grade this year. Galion was behind them as was Ontario. They should both be pretty good. Pleasant was also solid as always.

Last year's Ontario's 6th grade team lost one game, to Shelby due to a missed PAT. Their QB not only played for Ontario, but also for an Akron All-Star team. Then he was asked to play for a Florida team that was playing in a national tournament in Houston. They finished 2nd. He was voted the most valuable player in the tournament and also given the award for best academics. This summer he's been playing for a team in Michigan

I remember reading in the paper when a Ontario 6th grade football team won a "state" title. I also remember being told later that the tournament they won was titled as a "state tournament" but in reality only had about 8 teams entered. The coach of that team had a son that was the QB. Now, that coach was let go from coaching for the school and the son is the QB at Mansfield. We can guess where the kid playing in Michigan will be at by the time he is a senior?

This was not an Ohio "state" title tournament. The kId was asked to play QB for a Florida team playing in a tournament in Houston Texas. 6th grade football has nothing to do with middle school sports. The father you mention coached 7th grade at Ontario for several years, not just the year that his son was in 7th grade. His 7th grade coaching stint ended when he became a Tyger booster. Do you know the Miller family? The kid could end up playing for IMG, but thinking Senior is silliness,

Pleasant's seventh grade is just full of athletes. Don't know how that will translate to the football field but I know they will be solid at basketball.

I was speaking of the team in the past that won the "state' tournament. It was in the paper and made a big deal of it but it never translated into wins for the program. The father I mentioned coaches his own son on the "state" team and then was hired for years on the middle school staff but helped with high school as his kid got older. He was fired by the current head coach, when he was the director of athletics. This also added to the head coach at the time stepping down/being non-renewed. Which opened the door for the current coach to take over and was a factor in the middle school coach becoming a Tyger booster and his son changing programs. I do not know the Miller family but if history repeats itself, which I jokingly predicted it may, the kid will not stay at his current school. I never implied it would be Senior.

You weren't speaking you were communicating by typing.
Apparently you're more interested in Ontario football than anyone I've known in Ontario over the past 40 years. I nor anyone I know ever read anything in the MNJ about a 6th grade "state" title, nor does anyone care. Just you and a few, at the time, 6th grade crazy parents. I tend to think it's just your imagination, heck the MNJ doesn't do a good job at covering HS sports. Let alone 6th grade.
Do you personally know the parent in question? I do and have for years.
The TRUE timeline. He told me after his son broke his leg, half way through his Sophomore year, that he had conversations with the Senior football coach and was sending him there. At the time he was still coaching. Like ALL coaches, they're either renewed or not renewed between school years, The decision to send his son to Senior was made WHILE he was still coaching, The Open Enrollment paperwork was DONE in Febrruary, 5 months BEFORE he was non renewed. This was done then, so his son wouldn't fall under the new transfer rule.
THUs, this transfer had NOTHING to do with a head coaching change. Even Galionites know why it happened
Posting about this transfer to Senior was an obvious referral to this upcoming QB. If not, your poor semantics got in the way again.
You need to make an effort to meet and talk to the Milller family before making more unknowlegeable aspersions. Even you might be impressed enough to donate to their personal and very worthy charitable venture. BTW, you lack of knowledge goes even deeper, when it comes to recent Senior QB's.

Your reading comprehension fails you. The ONLY "dissing" I did was concerning ohioraised asertions. If there were not 64 teams involved, like the HS playoffs, it is a misnomer to call it a true "Ohio" championship. Was this in the MNJ?

Do not care? If there were not 64 teams involved it is not worthy. Was this in the MNJ? I don't know, but it certainly happened. Not saying it meant much. Just that it happened.

Known the dad and his extended family longer than he has had sons. I also know the former coach he worked for and how he lost his job at the hands of the current coach. There was never a transfer in place until the guy that wanted the Dad fired, became head coach. That is when action was taken. I have neighboring community interest and very limited knowledge of ontario football. Some dummy mentioned a 6th grade team from ontario and it caused me to remember another ontario 6th grade team that was in the paper years ago. Ask Spencer if you doubt it, but the tournament did happen and the paper did report it.

The "action" took place in February of the sons Sophomore year, so the Open Enrollment papers would be filled out before the new transfer rule went into affect. Which was before there was a new head coach and before coaching contracts were renewed or nonrenewd.. EVERYONE knew during basketball season he was transferring. Dad told me at their first basketball scrimmage he was transferring. I take a lot of what he says with a grain of salt, but he wasn't joking about this. He ONLY cared about the exposure son would get at Senior. His daughter stayed at Ontario. If you were really PO'd at Ontario wouldn't you get them both out of Ontario?
Go back and look at the chatter on here and see when and what was said.
btw, the Miller kid is 10 times the QB the transfer was in 6th grades.
This dummy isn' t as dumb as you. This thread is about MOAC middle school football. I posted about Ontario's 7th grade football team, based on what I knew about what the QB did in 6th grade. What do you know about Ontario middle school football?

Miller kid from Ontario is legit, Shelby 7th grade has retooled their offense and has bigger faster kids in skill positions, last 2 years we couldnt do that because of weight restrictions in the league we were both in

The current head coach was hired in November and that set the transfer into motion. the kid was never going to play for that person. He is also the guy that was the person that wanted Dad fired from the football staff. If you truly knew Dad you would know he does not dislike Ontario, only the current head football coach.

AGAIN, I was told before the football season was over that a conversation was had with the Senior coach and the transfer was going to happen.
The father was a descent 7th grade coach that was allowed to coach at the varsity level ONLY because his son was the QB. You must admit father can be rather pretentious at times.
Have you ever heard of the "The Peter Principle"? If not, Google it. It explains, as in management of a company, similarly what happens when a parent gets a coaching position ONLY due to a sibling's talent. Surely you aren't so obtuse to believe father coaches at the varsity level at Ontario, if not for his son being the QB. Is it not a little odd that a 7th grade coach gets promoted to varsity coach when son becomes QB on varsity?? Most coaches know that can be a detriment to TEAM. Father(coach) says it should be done one way, head coach believes it should be done another way. Best to avoid that potential disaster.
It is ALWAYS a sad situation when a parent makes, as you say, a kid leave his friends of ten years just because that parent doesn't like a coach. FACT, father rightly believed son would get more exposure at Senior than at Ontario. The REAL reason for the transfer....don't be led astray.

Many parents talk and that's all it is. The thought of really leaving did not get teeth until the current coach was hired. Before than it was just an athletic director trying to fire a 7th grade coach. This was a partial reason for the football vacancy when the former coach switched to golf and the Galion guy was hired. I have never said this Dad made his son leave his friends. He still has all of them. Plus it wasn't just the Dad that did not like the current coach. the kid di not want any part in playing for him. I agree, the father and son both felt and feel the son would get a better opportunity for a future working with his current coach. The Sr coach is getting offers for and sending kids off to play college football every year. Good luck to the kid in his senior year and the Miller kid coming up .

Come on!! It's a different world at Mansfield Senior. He doesn't go to the same school with his friends of 10 years, he doesn't have classes with them, he doesn't play sports with them. He might only see a few after practices. Shouldn't he be palling around with the players on his school's team?
Why didn't the kid want any part of playing for the new Ontario head coach?? Might it not have had something to do with dad being PO'd at the new coach for not wanting him on his staff? It is the prerogative of a new head coach to have the coaches he wants on his staff is it not?
The kids getting offers are in spite of the Senior High coach. Whose squads with all those kids getting offers to play college ball, has a TEAM record of 19-12 over the past 3 years.
Just imagine what Clear Fork's coach would have done with the same players.

He’s has two winning seasons in the last 8 lol... he’s hardly sent any players to college in his 10 seasons at CF. He has only won games his first two years when he had two great classes, and the last two after moving to a “weaker” conference with again, two good classes back to back. When he hasn’t had talent he’s a a below avg winning percentage

It is clear it is a different world at Senior and it is what he wanted and needed if he wanted to play in college. If a Richland County kid is looking to play college football and wants a little help getting there Sr may be the best place to be. A kid like the one we are talking about makes friends anywhere and never loses them. He still has his long time friends. And in todays world kids pal around with kids from all schools all the time. The kid liked Kreger and the current guy got rid of him and tried to fire his dad. When Hawkins left, under pressure, and the new hire announcement was made in Nov the kid was gone. The kids getting offers at Senior are because of the coaches and the actions and connections they have made. Going 19-12 against their schedule is better than the kids previous school that went 9-21. Even if I did get to see the kid play at Clear Fork and had gone 26-7 during your time span, his chances of college would be low because our coach wants the attention to be on him as the reason for winning. Now that we play a easy schedule his chances of that are greater.

No one that lives outside of Mansfield wants to send their kids to Mansfield Senior other than to play football or basketball. They'll be getting a lesser education amid more chaos.
You admit the reason the kid transferred to Senior was ONLY to get more exposure on the football field. It did not matter who the head coach or assistant coach was at Ontario. Wouldn't get noticed there. The negatives at Senior took a back seat.
Is dad coaching at Senior, or was the promise to be the stating QB good enough?
The kid never played for Kreger. Hawkins was the HC when he was a Freshman, and a Sophomore when the transfer took place.
Kreger had a winning record in his 7 years due to the years in the NCC, but he was 2-8 in his last year and 12-18 the last 3.
One of the more successful football coaches in this area was interested in coming to Ontario. Even with some issues in his past, Ontario was willing to roll the dice. Since they only have 2 playoff appearances in their history.
The AD at the time was also the Assistant Principal. His boss, the Principal, was related to Hawkins. The Assistant Principal was told by his boss to get Kreger to step down, so the Principal's relative could get the job.
Hawkins stepping down had absolutely NOTHING to do with who the AD was. That came from above his and the principal's pay grade.
You failed to answer this question. Isn't a head coach, if possible, allowed to have the staff he would like to have?
BTW, the previous QB at Senior also transferred from Ontario. His dad thought he'd get a DI scholarship by playing at Senior. He went to a DIII school. Probably coulda got that playing at Ontario for Kreger

7th graders from shelby looked good in 10 plays , scored a few times, defended well on defense. In the game situation they didn't score in 2 quarters.....8th graders did really well, scored on 2 touchdown passes, one was over 50 yards....great show young whippets
