Ontario has the nicest arena Bellevue has bleachers behind both baskets which no one else has Sandusky does not have walls right behind the baskets which make it nice to watch because it feels less congested

Depends on your view. I see Margaretta's gym as a nice throwback that could have easily had scenes from the movie Hoosiers filmed in it. I like old gyms and that one seems to have a full-sized court with by comparison to Tiffin Calvert and Fremont St. Joe making it nice in the old school category. Not many left and that one might become endangered.

On the stage, if you sit in the top row in either corner, it's difficult to see play in the corner on the near side.

jmmorgan, the least you could've done was put your list in alphabetical order. How about these... St.Petes's old gym? One side had theater seats. The other side had a concrete wall 2 feet from the sideline and then 4 rows? of seats that started 10 feet off floor level. Mansfield Senior's old gym? It was added onto 2 or 3 times. Different seating and view points than were seen in any other gym I've been in. Ontario's old gym? Fewer than half the seats that are in the O-rena. In Balogh's early years people would start lining up an hour and a half before the doors opened. The place would be packed before the start of the JV game. Bleachers right at court side, no A/C or air circulation. It was like a sweat box, even when it was 0 degrees outside. Many people complained and asked why there were no reserved seats. The answer was, Joe wanted it that way. He wanted his JV players getting the feel for playing in front of a full house. Wooster Triway, "The Pit"? The story I've been told. It was originally going to be a swimming pool, but after construction started it was decided they couldn't afford a pool and it became the basketball court. Galion's old old gym. Went to a game there when I was a kid. The pep band was in a balcony over hanging the few rows of visitor's seats. The kid playing the slide trombone blew the spittle out of his trombone and it landed on my dad's head. That was the last high school game he went to. It wasn't a high school gym, but I loved going to tournament games at Ashland U. Too bad they stopped hosting.

No question, the best gym I have ever been to would have to be Huron's McCormick Middle School auditorium. Intimate, cozy seating. PC and Oak Harbor have similar auditorium style gyms but they don't compare with McCormick. Also, this auditorium doubles as a bomb shelter, so you are safe in case of a nuclear crisis. The Tigers middle school teams are dominate in this gym, compiling a record of 141-16 at home over the past 20 years.
Second best gym - I would have to go with Huron's St. Peter's Catholic Church gymnasium aka THE ROCK (before it was rebuilt). This gym sported the greatest home court advantage of any gym in the country. With its tile floors and 12 foot ceilings, this gym was nearly impossible to score in for opposing parishes.
GO Tigers
Go Bobcats

Willard - How about the old Malabar gym? I think they had the student section in the top corner and called it the Falcons nest. They were somewhat undisciplined back in the ‘70s but it looked like they had a lot of fun.

As for favorite gyms I know the Truck stop is not most peoples favorite however in 2013 when Nigel Hayes (Wisconsin) and Whitmer came to Norwalk. A year from Norwalks loss to Whitmer @ U of T. They set up chairs on the floor to hold more people and the gym was filled by 5 pm and the teams did not disappoint as Ben H took over late and led Norwalk to victory. This laid the foundation for Norwalk to win a OHSAA State championship the following year.
The other was 1982 Ashland College packed to the gills as Willard was able to beat Ed Young (Dayton) an the Upoer Sandusky Rams for the third time in that season to advance to Regionals. That gym was never that electric again...

That gym was never that electric again... Played in that game at Ashland, John Rife had a chance at the buzzer to win it for Upper but missed. Young was a load. His nephew is a pretty good baller for Upper today. I remember the Willard/Malabar game a few years later that was pretty electric as well as the Willard/Upper game in 2006.
