Perkins is lucky they dont face Oak Harbor or Genoa. LOL Oak Harbor wouldn’t even beat Edison or Huron this year, let alone Perkins. That’s way OH ran away from the SBC. No, there was an opening, and OH came back home. I always thought OH had buyers remorse when they left the SLL for SBC. When Playoffs kept expanding, there was no need to cross Edison Bridge to play many SBC schools but hang out out with Portage River area schools and compete

I saw that Sturzinger from Perkins was at the Michigan game this past weekend. That is big time, good for him. Does he any offers yet? If not I am sure he will start to receive some. How about Collier?

Oak Harbor’s departure had everything to do with having a chance to join a stable eight team league.

After boat-racing TC and annihilating everyone on their regular-season schedule, a showdown with Glenville is now imminent. Perkins will need to tighten up their D, but I still like their chances to go all the way.

They’re giving up less than 15 ppg. Not sure how much more you expect from a HS defense. They aren’t turnover dependent, get plenty of 4 down stops. That’s all you can ask for at the HS level, IMO. Besides they average 50ppg, with a power run game which can be a defensive aid as well

Any word on Glenville's eligibility issues?. Going to be a month long wait for the showdown. Impressed with the Bunts kid from Perkins among many others. Kid can break a long one at any time.

Will have to limit them in that game.

Agreed, definitely can’t give up TOO many. At the same time, other teams have special players that can make plays too. Just have to limit them, especially playing high risk/reward man defense like the Pirates do

Drew Pasteur has the Pirates winning the state title. They get past Glenville and are healthy is definitely possible. Steubenville isn’t an easy task though or Massie

It's looking inevitable that Perkins will run in to Glenville. A few thoughts on the potential match up.
-Perkins leads the entire state in PPG -The most points Glenville has allowed this year is 28 (once to D2 powerhouse Hoban, and once to #4 ranked nationally IMG academy. Held 10-0 Avon to 24. Avon averages a D2 best 42.7 PPG).
We have yet to see Perkins play a slug-fest type game. In a matchup with Glenville, you can't expect to score 40 points. Are they going to be able to win a game where they only score in the 20's? I think they can. They have a great running game and defense has seemed to come around as the year progresses. I think the keys will be:
1.) Limit turnovers 2.) Stop the run 3.) Create turnovers
Glenville has some studs on their defense. They will play man on the stud Perkins receivers and will try to send lots of pressure. Lesch will need to protect the ball and not try to force throws. The jump ball heaves that work against Tiffin Colombian and Sandusky will not work against Glenville and Bryce West.
The Glenville RB is a load and probably the best back in the state. They will run him 20+ times and try to wear out the Perkins D. Perkins will need to hit him in the backfield to try to slow him down and gang tackle or they will be in for a long night.
I think Perkins can win. It will take their best effort and probably need a few mistakes from Glenville, but think it can be done.

If this matchup comes every kid that steps on the field for Perkins will have to elevate their game beyond what they have done this year. I also believe this is going to take a 4 quarter offense, defense, special teams “champions” rating. I will be very interested in seeing what kind of game plan is created for Glenville should a regional final showdown occur.

And to boot, that Redmen team didn't have much a passing game

Had a blast from the past and watched the 1999 Perkins, Girard playoff game. Something about Souter and Schnittker blitzing like mad men and seeing a QB run for their life! Wow!
I know none of the kids playing now were alive during that season, but us kids wanted to be them after watching that season! Run the ball like lightning burns, crush a running back like Brandon, or pick a pass off like Coles, Printy, Jarrett. Or maybe run the huddle like Adams, or if you enjoy it hold the line like Scally, Pentorn, Biglin, and the rest. Hell if you’re crazy enough take T-right 24 or 26 like Preistas or my man Blakely into the heart of the defense. I could go on and on.
I hope this years team can add to that dream for the kids at Perkins. I know we loved it and while it didn’t quite set a standard of elite football there after, that was a standard every team tried and aspired to be. Winning a title in a small town like Perkins can change the outlook for years.
