Again, stay classy. And I've been to your town and stadium. Not exactly the garden spot of America you have there so try being a little more careful when you cast stones.

Yeah and I held my comment until your last post. I read it Friday night and recognized it for the immature sour grapes that it was.

34-26. Qb for Johnstown just went 80 yards on a 3rd and 15. BV missed about 8 chances to tackle him short of the first down.

BV down 21-0 at half. Barons are showing very little heart tonight.

I would expect BV's run defense to be very stout vs. the Johnnies. If they have a decent passing game, they could attack that way and use it to open the running game. If they don't have much of a pass attack though, I would expect a very low scoring game. I'm just not sure if BV's offense is at the point yet where they will move the ball consistently enough to score enough points. Hope I'm wrong though.

BV has to start cleaning up their bad penalties. They nullified at least two personal fouls on Whetstone by retaliating, and had a roughing the passer when they had Whetstone pinned on the 6 inch line. The thing that saved them Friday was Whetstone was twice as undisciplined as they were. Friday's game with Johnstown will IMO give the best read of the three non-conference. At this point, I still have no idea what to expect. Half of those they'll clean up, half they won't. Some of it is immaturity, which is correctable. Half is a dirty ball player, which will never change. I can't disagree. In the ideal world, if one player continues to hurt the team with stupid penalties, he should find himself watching from the pine, but, it probably won't happen that way.

BV beats Whetstone 39-12. Sloppy game on both sides with a lot of penalties. Barons finally started imposing their will late in the first half and then thru the second.

BV beat themselves. Credit to Delaware for not making too many mistakes but this was a game the Barons should've come away with. 3 turnovers inside the Delaware 10 and two of Hayes' touchdown drives kept alive by roughing the passer calls. I'm encouraged going further here that they will compete with everyone on their schedule but they have got to clean up the mistakes. They really need to live up to the idea that you make your most improvement between weeks 1 and 2. There were a lot of kids who haven't played before who saw significant time tonight as expected. They held their own and then some against a more experienced team. What really needs to improve more than anything is their conditioning. BV had way too many kids going down with cramps tonight. So many that I would say it had a significant impact on the game.

I'd guess you're probably fairly close with that prediction. I just don't see the Comets competing with NU right now.

Guys can we let this go already... 2 years and 2 different boards and we are still talking about this. Can we focus on match ups or anything other than GT. Amen, I'll second the motion. Let's move on.

Galion, BV-Hayes is still a huge rivalry in terms of the gate. Unfortunately, BV hasn't been as competitive on the field as we would like, but to be fair, Hayes has grown to be much much bigger than BV, and given the small geographic size of their district compared to us, has a much easier time getting their kids out. Now, I'd say the numbers on the BV team this year seem to be as good as I ever remember in my 15+ years living in the district. Hopefully that trend continues, because there are some really good athletes in the system.
There was actually a two-year stretch back about 5-6 years ago where the rivalry didn't happen. I have no idea whether it was BV, or Hayes, or mutual that decided to not play, but they very quickly resumed after the two-year hiatus, and I would have to say they both didn't realize how big a crowd they were giving up by not playing this game.

Well I'm glad I'm not the one (maybe, lol). BV could be very good, or the could struggle. In reading a couple of the preview articles in the Gazette and the Marion Star, I'm hearing Coach Stephens voice some of the same areas of concern as I would have with regards to the offensive line and secondary. Listen, I'll root as hard for the Barons as anyone, but I'm also a realist (as anyone who knows me from the Huddle can attest). I'll tell it as I see it. I just need to see some of the unproven players perform before I'll be ready to say BV is a serious threat to Alder or RV. They'll definitely compete, but they need some kids to step up that haven't had very many (if any) varsity snaps.
And trench90, if you have any serious hopes that our boys get to week 11 this year, you need to be rooting hard for EVERY red division team in weeks 1-3 including Galion and Alder. We will need all the 2nd level points possible to make it in our region.

Looks like I'm the lone BV poster to make the transition over to here. I don't have a kid on the team so I have no idea what's going on with them right now, but I'll be at just about every game so I'll provide my usual measured insights as the season goes on. I do know that they have several impact move-ins from Liberty that will add some really good speed to the offense to go along with the QB, Spaulding. Defensively, I would expect them to be pretty stout in the front 7 but don't know anything about the secondary. They lost a ton of leadership off of last year's team so that's probably the #1 thing they will have to find early in the season.
