Right now - end of the first - an unranked Wisconsin is the one controlling the game vs LSU. We'll see how they fare over three more quarters, but it's nice to see the SEC come north even if it's for an early season game.

I took one last dig at JJHuddle and posted our website and made mention that they banned NOSF. Might bring some here...might not, but at least it gives them an option if they still want to talk sports forum. I personally don't have a need to instagram, or tweet sports info, in part because I'm not there. I've gotten used to most of you and like it here. I have to think that if we all lived in the same area, we would be at the same game week in and week out, drinking a beer at the same local watering hole post game and just generally chewing the fat and living la vida loca... LOL!!! I take it back. I tried and they still block me. Weak sauce there girls. Oh well, North coast-formerly NOSF- still going strong and I bet will continue to for a while yet.

A replica of the emblem they were using for the Olympics. 2016 Rio Olympics Emblem The logo for the 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro has been designed by a Brazilian company, Tatil Design. The logo defines four concepts - contagious energy, Olympic spirit, harmonious diversity and exuberant nature. The logo represents three figures who support the three colors of the Brazilian flag - Green, Yellow, and Blue. The shape of the three figures, which have been joined at the arms and can be seen in a triple embrace, is a reflection of the Sugarloaf Mountain.

So he recruited... bad coach, but in Masillon I can understand why. They are akin to OSU when it comes to rabid fans and pregame/post game crazies. I took in the Washington/McKinley game three years ago now I think, and honestly, I would go again in a minute. I had no dog in the fight, but for pure, make you squeal like a little girl, Saturday afternoon, big rivalry high school football?? It was loads of fun.
If you never have, it's worth it to go....just once.
If I get more time, I will post a pic or two tomorrow....

I found an EXCOboard page on Facebook too, maybe by someone on here leading me to it. In any event, many of them were shorted much as we were and I shared this location with them too. One of the sites was much larger than us, and I was stunned. They had over 6000 members and then they were gone... Ouch!

Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder wins gold at 97kg Considering his age, I thought this would have been a much bigger deal. Most gold medalists arent' good enough to do it until at least their mid twenties. I saw some matches, but most were Greco and of guys from other countries. Still wish they would actually show more wrestling when there is really such a large wrestling community. Olympic exposure to the masses could help our sport get free from the folkstyle stigma we suffer from when it comes to international wrestling....and why a small third world country can excel against us.

I played there in 1982 before I blew my knee out the second time and called it quits in the summer of 1983, just before camp started again. On the Muskie team that year (1982) were two guys that have gone on to be big time coaches... Jon Gruden (won Superbowl XXXVII with Tampa Bay) and Darrell Hazell, the current head coach at Purdue (who was a D3 All-American.) Jeff Heacock, younger brother of Jim Heacock (ex-OSU defensive coordinator) was our head coach at the time, and I think is still the AD at Muskingum after 20+ years of coaching with a 42% win record . Muskingum was a football juggernaut in the early 60's with "Cannonball" Cooper at running back, but never so much since that time. The best record I think I remember is maybe 7-3 my junior or senior year, when that class of us that were heavily recruited were upperclassmen and by then, I wasn't playing anyway. I wish them well. D3 sports in a program that is not shown much success in recent history is difficult.

One of the best matches I ever saw in my youth was center mat in the old Galion gym, circa 1981, between the Willard and Galion 167 pounders. Just can't find the names anymore, and the weight may have actually been 160.... LOL!!! Still, great match... Matula maybe from Willard??? Just not sure anymore...

6.214 miles in 29:17...averaging around 4:45 per mile in the 10000 meter women's race. Ethiopian A. Ayana smashed the WR by 14 seconds today... 2nd place and 3rd place were the 3rd and 4th fastest times in history in the event and these three not only lapped other world class competitors, but actually lapped some of the TWICE! I'm an old shot put guy and really don't like distance racing (really - you have to be mental to enjoy that) but what this woman did today was incredible. If I understood the announcers correctly, it's only the second full 10000 meter race she's ever run as well.
Just incredible....

Women's single archery final match (recurve bow) was Korea vs. China. Small crowd... much less than half the stands filled for a FINAL!!! Kind of cool to watch how good the ladies were, but the crowd?? Sorry IOC. No more archery in the Olympics for you.
And what will they do for surfing when the Olympics are hosted by a city like Montreal again? Or Moscow? Something that is so landlocked that they can't do anything about it... I have never gotten over them trying to dump wrestling, as one of the oldest and original sports that helped to create the games. My panties are still in a bunch years later.

I'm still pissing and moaning. Turned on an equestrian event today, where the horse is the bigger athlete that the jockey, and over half the seats in the arena were empty... Yet, 94% of the available tickets sold were too small for the wrestling venue in 2012. Eat me IOC...
Sad this is such a sore spot for me, because I love Olympic competition and that it normally brings out the best in athletes.

I'm excited to see Michigan in the top 10... The Michigan faithful here are getting their panties in a bunch already at what may be... and already starting to spout off to the guy that drives a Buckeye truck all over the area, and flies his flag here as well... LOL!!! That they might finally have a shot to beat OSU, after the run they have had since RR was hired way back when. They are actually due for the "W" as well, but to go into Columbus, with an Urban coached team, and win?? After last years *** beating, I can only imagine how bad Harbaugh is chomping to get to "The Game," and I can't wait to hear how bad it's going to be for the Buckeyes every week as Michigan finally starts to have a nice season and starts to believe they can beat OSU... The mouths will start running as they used to during the Cooper years and then by God, let's just hope that Urban and the men of scarlet and grey can shut them up on that fine Saturday in November! Go Bucks!!!

Many of you will remember the IOC pulling the plug on wrestling in the Olympics in lieu of otherwise more fan demanded sports like underwater tiddlywinks. I remember that attendance at a sport like wrestling was an issue, although-and this number has stuck with me- over 94% of the ticketed seats were sold over the sessions at the last Olympics.
So today I'm watching Brazil men (the home team) play Lithuania on the first round, and the gym is pretty full, but not sold out. Then I got to an equestrian event (and this is Olympic athletics??? Really?) on another channel, and they have monstrous stands in their arena, and relatively no one in attendance. I haven't forgotten yet, the BS end around the IOC tried to pull on the wrestling community, and even though the 2020 Olympics were saved, they need to know the public haven't forgotten their push to take an original sport from the Olympic venue.
Screw the IOC!!!

I try not to get too mushy about this state, because at heart I'm an Ohio born and raised guy and all of those years as a Buckeye fan.....well, we always had to find stuff to hate Michigan over. Yet, the longer I live here, and the more I learn about it, the more I like it here. The UP is absolutely beautiful, much akin to Southeastern Ohio in hilly/mountainous terrain towards the Keewenau Peninsula (old copper country.) Trout streams are abundant, as you go west and north, but not so much in the Detroit area, and the sand dunes were phenomenal if you have never seen them before. You can rent Jeeps and 4 wheelers to tool across the Silver Lake Dunes, or get a recreational vehicle permit from the state in advance and take your 4WD truck out there, but the cheapest way to see them up close was the Mac Woods Dune Tours. Basically, they set a bunch of folks in specially fitted, open top, F-250's with specialized tires and tool across paths preset by the company. They are the only company in the state who is allowed to lease the dunes for the tours and probably the safest way to see them up close and get a bunch of quick information about them.
Again, I don't want to get all sappy about Michigan, but at least one trip to that area is a must. It was a very unique land feature to the area (much as Old Man's Cave is to Southern Ohio.)

So far, no. Been through the U.P. a couple of times, and that is a way cool trip. I'm a Buckeye through and through, but the northern LP and the UP have some areas that are just beautiful. I was impressed with the hills and valleys in the sand dune area that worked inland and you could tell they were sand dunes with forest on top of them, because in a few miles or so, the land would flatten out again. My wife and I both found ourselves commenting about how the area reminded us of her home in Pennsylvania in the short hills of the Ohio and Beaver Rivers around Beaver and Allegheny Counties (or even Southern Ohio.)
I have also driven across the state (for wrestling competitions no less) and have found sand dunes not so widely publicized, but on the North side of M-21 between Lowell and St. Johns, both perennial Michigan wrestling powers, and bordered in part to the south by Grand River or Stony Creek. As the highway runs, one side goes down to the watershed, and the other is up a hill created by a sand dune. There was one point in particular that someone had dug into the hillside, and you could see some of the historical layers of sand under the forest. I realize something like this has little value to most, but I have been amazed by some of the Great Lakes history and Michigan is in a very unique location as a peninsula.
(This conversation made me more curious, so I went to look at topographical maps and did some other research. What I perceived as a sand dune by the layers, may in fact have been more of an ancient moraine of sorts. I'm going to ask around and see if I can't find someone who is more geographically sound than what I find on the web so far. It's a big state, and I am focused on kind of a small area, in regards to that mid state "sand dune.")

Trip was doubled up to get our youngest from her fine arts camp in Blue Lake Twp just outside Montague and Whitehall. Got to check out the sand dunes in the area too and have to tell you they are really impressive. If you've never seen that part of Michigan, it's worth the trip. We'll be going there again somewhere along the line for a long weekend or two.

As an old school guy, I learned to suck it up buttercup. Played my entire junior year with a broken bone in my wrist suffered in the first scrimmage. Long story short, it stayed broken until I had a bone graft my frosh year of college after my football season was over. I don't want any kid out there who isn't released and ready to compete, but I also know as a coach, that there are a bunch of kids who lack the toughness to work through even the slightest pain and often those are the ones you ride the hardest. They are also the ones you have to praise the hardest because you are trying to build them into football players... And some just never will be. Just glad I don't have to serve on the jury that tries this case... It would be tough.
(I have a slew of coaches to thank for the mental toughness by the way. Thank God they saved my candy *** by never letting up when it was hot, when I was crying about working hard, and being sore, and in general when practice sucked. I remember well being drug around by my face mask when I needed it, and coaches in my face making sure I got the point when It was needed too. My feelings were hurt at the time, but those same coaches treated me like their own... That's what makes a case like this so difficult to pursue or judge.)

As much as it pains me to say it, you can't argue about the ND fight song. It was the second one I thought about and michigan a close third. Overall tho... Even to fans of other teams, it is more recognizable if only due to exposure over the years.
