Most of us in northern Ohio and Cleveland Clown fans haven't seen an NFL game in years anyway. When the amateur hour comes on, we immediately do something else! Been that way since the so-called "return of the Browns"

Think Tribe would be wise to resign Bruce and see what the market says for Brantley before resigning him. I would really like to ink Santana too but it will be tough. The owners shelled out big bucks this year, in part because they thought they might recoup part of it in ticket sales, merchandise etc. from a world series. Now that that is out the door, think ownership will be more cautious this year in spending patterns....that's also why if funds are limited. I'd prefer to keep Santana and Bruce and let someone else worry about Brantley's health.

I don't want to hear about winning 102 games, or the 22-game streak. When it really, really mattered, the "stars" choked, plain and simple. You can blame the pitchers, but for the most part (other than your ace) they did their job. Yankees only batted .201 for series. Here are some stats from the Plain Dealer on the series:
Scored only five runs in the last three games. Struck out 40 times in their last 27 innings. Made seven errors in the last two games. Francisco Lindor? The All-Star shortstop was 2-for-18 ... six strikeouts. Jason Kipnis? He was 4-for-22 ... eight strikeouts. Jose Ramirez? He was 2-for-20 ... seven strikeouts. Edwin Encarnacion? He was 0-for-7 ... and missed three games with an ankle injury. Michael Brantley? Coming back from an ankle injury, he was 1-for-11. Tribe designated hitters were designated outs ... a combined 1-for-18, Brantley's single was the only hit by a DH. The Indians batted .171 for the five games. The Indians hit .171 as a team and scored 18 runs. Half of those runs came in Game 2. In the last three games of the series, the Indians went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and scored five runs. Indians pitchers set a set a franchise record with 16 strikeouts in the nine-inning game. For the series, Yankee pitchers struck out 61 in 47 innings, while Indians pitchers struck out 64 in 47 innings. Yankees as a team batted .201.

Agree that St.Mary's Memorial could possibly be the toughest test to getting out of the region. You can see that they have played a good mixture of D2, D3 and D4 schools. Maybe not the best "football" schools, but who knows. Here is their schedule and scores to date:
8/25 A Sidney (7-0) [2:8] L 32-39 9/1 A Ottawa-Glandorf (3-4) [5:18] W 21-13 9/8 H Van Wert (3-4) [4:14] W 50-34 9/15 H Shawnee (3-4) [3:12] W 35-34 ot 9/22 A Kenton (3-4) [4:14] W 30-13 9/29 H Elida (5-2) [3:12] W 63-21 10/6 H Bath (1-6) [4:14] W 49-0 10/13 A Celina (5-2) [3:12] 10/20 H Defiance (1-6) [3:10] 10/27 A Wapakoneta (4-3) [3:12

The first three hitters in the lineup -- Francisco Lindor, Jason Kipnis and Jose Ramirez -- have a combined .143 batting average and .222 on-base percentage to date in the series. This is not a recipe for winning.

Don't have a good feeling about tonight or the series. Tribes bats have regressed into the ugly inconsistent slumber mode. Bauer on three days also has to be a concern. Yea, I'm a worry wart, but I've seen this movie way too often. BTW, is anyone else fed up with Buck and the Bronx cheerleading announcers?

Maybe he/she is old enough to have seen some of those Shelby teams of the 1960's. [ I was around in the 60s. Those teams, IMO, were completely different. Run, sweep, out muscled and physically beat teams. This team much more diversified with mix of pass and run. Different eras, different types of football. Difficult to say which were/are better. Shelby fans and parents should just enjoy the ride.

Willie is spot on. Not in wilson's offensive scheme forvmany reasons, including osu's young receivers and JT's slow release. Not much long downfield. May score on a 50-60 yard pass play but actual pass will go no more than 15-20 yards

Don't think it will get bad or out of hand. The way penalty flags have been flying vs sbc opponents bellevue and norwalk, could easily be a one touchdown game either way.

Think Tito will try everything in his power to have Brantley make the initial roster cut....just out of loyalty. I don't agree with that, but saw a clip last night saying Tito is leaning that way. Can't afford to have him get back into shape and break-in during the playoffs. Tribe has won 100 games without him, so why do it now?

Think will be tough for both schools to find week six replacements next season. Usually most schools are playing league games at that point and are already committed.

When finally able tobget on lthis afternoon, could only get SRO tickets for first series (at $100 apiece). Go to stubhub and can get any ticket I want at eve higher price. Typical BS

Too bad Huron is taking that attitude vs Shelby. O Who did Huron pick up to replace Shelby next year? Should just add to the atmosphere this Friday.

The difference in this game will be the continued absence of Shorty Brooks who is out for one more game. These games are always battles from two longtime foes -- really think Bellevue pulls the upset, especially if it is a wet field -- they will be able to run the ball and not convinced the freshman running back can do it for Shelby. Hope I'm wrong. REmember last year, it was the Brooks = Armstrong COMBINATION that was the difference -- not just Armstrong alone.

Hard to tell how good Shelby was. What has happened to Madison's fb program? Madison terribly young and inexperienced. We will know much more about Shelby after next week.

It will be interesting to see if the don't let the door hit you in the axx on the way out attitude affects any of the schools Shelby will play in the sbc the next two years in football. Little more nasty or feisty perhaps? When the fb change comes in 19-20, it will also be interesting to see what three non-MOAC-league opponents Shelby retains. Madison, Lexington, Willard, Bellevue would be the logical candidates for the three games, given their long-standing relationships with those schools. Which one of those schools would be left out? REmember computer points for wins vs bigger schools.

This series vs Twinkies and next vs royals gives the Tribe a chance to put some real distance between themselves and rest of division. IF they win both series (not necessarily sweep) they could find themselves 7-8 games or more up heading into September. talk about pressure on the wannabees!

Galion -- that is true, but Kipnis is a huge disappointment and a strike out machine as well. At least Bruce hits HRs and has RBIs on occasion.
The Indians outfield has produced 37 home runs this season. Bruce has hit 29 and driven in 75 runs. Brantley is basically a walking advertisement for health insurance, Zimmer is still learning and Abe is an abyss and likely to be let go if Chisenhall returns. Bruce will provide some cushion, hopefully, for EE and Jose and take a little pressure off them.
Otherwise, this offense is stinko and anything will help. Bruce is immediately the team leader in HRs and RBIs. At least the Dolans are stepping up; it is time for these jokers to earn their pay.

tabbed TOO SOON -- anyway, those were some of the best and most exciting college FB games I ever witnessed. Being fortunate enough to witness them in person and even attending the great Rose Bowl game and downing of SC and Mr. OJ was something I'll never forget. Still have a cherished picture I took of OJ making his first-half TD run and outdistancing the Buckeye defenders. Remember saying to my roommate and girlfriend (at the time) "we came all the way out here for this?" LOL now! BTW, the entire trip, via chartered jet from Columbus, hotel, car, parade and game tickets was $175 through the university! Those were the days my friend, thought they'd never end!

The Indians beat up on chump teams, which they have to do to succeed. Now the real test begins against quality ballclubs. Frankly, don't see the Tribe finishing anymore that one or two games above .500 when it is all said and done. just way too inconsistent hitting. Pitching is fine, bullpen is good, but hitting consistently is atrocious.

A few notes from the Plain Dealer on this road trip:
In the first five games, they've scored 12 runs. They were shutout once and held to one run in 10 innings Tuesday night in a 2-1 loss to the Giants. They've lost twice in the opposition's last at-bat because the offense left the bullpen no room for error.
The Indians are hitting .192 as a team and .122 (5-for-41) with runners in scoring position on this tour of the Bay Area. On Sunday, they went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in a 7-3 loss to the A's. On Monday night, they went 3-for-13 against the Giants in their only win on the trip so far. The win was due in a large part to two San Francisco errors.
In the last 21 games, the Indians have scored three or fewer runs 11 times. That includes four shutouts. They are hitting .209 (46-for-220) with runners in scoring position in those games.
Here's what some of the Indians are hitting on the trip: Brantley .210 (4-for-19), Encarnacion .118 (2-for-17), Yan Gomes .200 (3-for-15), Brandon Guyer .083 (1-for-12), Ramirez .150 (3-for-20), Carlos Santana .167 (2-for-12) and Bradley Zimmer .133 (2-for-15). Francisco Lindor is hitting . 400 (8-for-200) and Giovanny Urshela is hitting .364 (.4-for-11).
Last year the Indians went into the break ranked fifth in the AL in runs scored and finished second overall. This year the Indians entered the break ranked seventh in runs. Can they salvage the offense with another strong second half? The opportunity is there.

Salaries and benefits are the biggest cost in any business by far. Unless there is a major, major expenditure for new equipment each and every year, labor and their associated costs (pensions, health, workers comp etc) easily total over 75% of any business related operational costs. That being said, however, who or what can operate without some labor help? Thus, it is a double-edged sword in many cases. One can only try to find good, quality workers who do their jobs in the most efficient manner possible. That is why in many successful business operations, workers are also some of the shareholders or stockholders in the business. Kinda puts the onus on their back. If the business operation fails, you fail as well. Unfortunately, many in the labor force today don't understand that principle. Unions have corrected some wrongs in the past, but also unfortunately, many union leaders don't understand that either and they actually bargain and ***** their way out of jobs for themselves and their constituents.

warriors will win big tonight and no one in the nba will touch them for the next 3-4 seasons. they will attract top free agents, just like the cavs did, and will keep on rolling. meanwhile, back in the land, even with lbj, kyrie and love, there's not enough on the horizon to help out. it was nice though, to see a Cleveland sports major championship in my lifetime. now my tombstone can read lived a life without a world series championship or super bowl title from Cleveland teams. one out of three is better than nothing!
