Fremont's enrollment is the primary issue and they are not shrinking, compared to the other schools in the SBC-L. No one in the Lake wants Fremont for that reason. The Bay schools may voice they are fine with it because it keeps them in the Bay but for the strength of the entire conference, it will not happen anytime soon. There is some unity in that group as a whole. Sandusky and TC may play them in football (TC again in 19) but they do not want to be married to them in a league/conference/division. It's a nice non-conference game. Take Sandusky for instance, they have their best team (2017) in a long, long time and it takes a miracle end of the game series of events for them to beat Fremont by one point. King, I'm sorry but someone told me your enrollment was shrinking and I wish I could remember who told me that so I can straighten him out but I am still hoping that you could be in our conference. I knew at one time Norwalk would scrimmage you in football and I'm not sure but I think we still do in basketball. I know we play each other in 5th. and 6th. grade football and yes that is elementary and not high school but to me it still is important because that is where we teach the kids on how to play the game right but usually we have some great hard hitting games with you guys and some of the best games ever played too. I would love to see us play football in high school, maybe when our contract ends against Norwayne which is starting this coming year, 2nd. game in the season, we could latch on to you guys and have some great games and memorable plays. It would help us to become a better team and would help both of us out with less travel time and great gate receipts. And maybe start another great rivalry. What do you think about this until we could get you into the conference. I hold your thoughts very highly and very much welcome your opinion. Death, you have bad sources. Fremont most likely will not get added. SBC would take Madison in a heartbeat over Fremont, plus Madison opens door for Senior and Lex, (maybe Ashland) to join as well. Rumor is Senior and Lex may have interest in the SBC as well.

For some reason the Fremont option has never been an option.

It would appear they are taking action to be ready. That's what it looks like. I'm just not sure where that leaves everyone else. I still see a situation that Ashland, Wooster and West Holmes go east. I know people continue to think Ashland won't ever leave the Mansfield area teams, but if things start to fall apart Ashland would much rather be with Wooster then Mansfield. All that said, I'm not sure why anyone would be in a rush to leave. Things aren't that bad in the OCC. The Ashland Supt has expressed interest in joining with eastern schools so if the OCC splits, the option of going with Wooster is not unthinkable. This would also make their talks of requesting a change of tournament and playoff direction to go Northeast instead of Northwest.

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one"----- If the OCC does split the MOAC could become collateral damage with BV making a move with an OCC team and Pleasant wanting a change. The end result could be(if small minded people would think big) a strong league with good travel and solid ticket sales. The current boys enrollment difference from biggest school to smallest school in the OCC is 230. The same measure for the MOAC is 220. A logical league using a combination of schools from both could have a difference of 169 or even 160. Many of these schools have good fan support and it would reduce travel to help increase tickets. Madison -stable in size Mansfield -getting smaller Lexington -getting smaller Ontario -growing Shelby -stable Clear Fork -growing slowly Galion -stable for now but the city wants to grow which could mean increased enrollment The 8th could be Harding or River Valley since both could be looking

Heywood, I wouldn't say bad sources just maybe this time some bad information. Everyone is at least allow to make a mistake or more. And I still do not see the reason for the SBC to take one or three of those OCC schools. Like said the only school that is close to them in the Lake, and that is where they would be placed because of their enrollment, is Norwalk. And if they do get in that would be 9 schools in the Lake and the Bay would not want any of them in with them. And if the powers to be says well we will move one of the small schools down there will be trouble there cause Bellevue will claw, kick and scratch at the idea of them moving down because they want to be in the Lake and as far as Clyde or Perkins moving down the Bay wouldn't want that because that is why the SBC is set up like it is today. The schools in the Bay was tired of Clyde or Perkins winning the football crown year in and year out because they were big. The best bet for Sr., Madison, and Lex to do is either stay with the OCC or maybe look into trying to start another conference. I still say that the SBC Lake is to invite Fremont Ross in. Yes they will win the football crown (maybe) the first 3 to 4 years and that is because they are in the 3 river conference, but the rest of us could get stronger from having them in and then the rest of us than can start competing with Ross for the crown. Well that is my 2 cents on this this subject and you know what I don't give a **** what anybody thinks it's my opinion and to me that all that matters.

death, your opinion makes perfect sense. Schools would resist an option because they are upset Clyde and Perkins won all the time before but other schools should invite Fremont who would win, but would make them better. The Lake division will be at 6 after this year, who do they invite since Fremont will not make it?

Because we are smack dab in the middle of north central Ohio mainly along the lake we do not have many schools that are the same size that we are. We could go east and maybe try for Amherst Marion Steel but they are to far for Tiffin Columbian. If we go south you have the Mansfield area but like I have been saying the closest team to that area is Norwalk. To the west the only one is Fremont Ross and there are teams that don't want them because they are to big. And to the north is the lake. We are a bunch of little big schools in a area full of medium to small schools all around us. I don't know what to think anymore.

There are only so many schools with enrollments between 200-400 within an acceptable travel area.

I would disagree slightly. I believe today's schools need to look at location far more than enrollment when organizing a league. I would not want a school with a boys OHSAA enrollment number of 98 with a school of 507, but a range of 200 to 250 is very acceptable.

How about 507, 441, 408 372, 332, 301 and 277 in the same league with a 224 or 248?
OR does it make much more sense for the 224 and 248 to be in the same league with a 390, 286, 242, 211, 186 and 169 and the 169 has around 20 State Final Fours
OR with all of the dysfunction maybe the OHSAA should do as California does.

Medina Buckeye was supposed to be touring the OCC schools to see their facilities. Haven't heard anything else about that.

I'm not sure how Medina Buckeye is an option. I guess if Mount Vernon where to leave it might make sense, but there is zero chance MV would be OK with an 1 hour and 30 min drive. That is a longer drive then what they were making to the farthest OCC school in Columbus. Also about an hour plus for Mansfield area schools. If your going to do that, just add Dover. You just can't keep throwing darts and try to bring in new schools. I just keep feeling like this is going to end badly, and in a few years we are going to wonder what happened.

Not so fast my friend. they dealt with Columbus traffic which, for certain trips, doubled the time. MB would be a straight drive north and they did were OK with them when asked. Dover by itself is not an option. Dover and New Philly are a pair.

unc4life, you could propose to your Supt. a league of Ashland, Medina Buckeye, Dover, New Philly, Wooster, West Holmes and Louisville. Maybe Mansfield or Madison would be interested also.

I think we are getting closer to a Ashland,Wooster,West Holmes,Dover and New Philly league with whoever else wants to join. I still don't see how Medina Buckeye fits in with anything any of the current OCC schools are doing.

Didn't Medina Buckeye look at the OCC when Orrville left and decided against it? OR did the OCC vote them down as they seem to do more often than not. JMHO.

If it's a choice between that or watching Sr. and Madison go north without them I think they will deal with it. If they didn't want Ontario because they were too far south then they certainly aren't going to be too keen on Lex when they only need 2 more larger schools to fill the lake division anyway. If they take all 3 then somebody gets moved down into the bay that the bay has no desire to deal with. So as far as Lex goes it would either be join that conference with Dover and NP or take their chances that the MOAC lets them replace BV.

They removed themselves. There wasn't a scenario that they wanted to be a part of so they explored other options. Lex and Madison to the SBC will be interesting to watch play out. It's not even close to a slam dunk from either's perspective.
