The Mansfield News Journal is basically non existent anymore. They didn’t even do a preview this year. They used to put out a preview with like 20 teams in it now they don’t even do that

i think that all gannett owned newspapers besides the news journal such as marion star port clinton new herald etc.fremont news messenger did not do one this year. your lucky if gannett papers haven even 2 pages of sports let alone high school sports.i will not buy any of these papers except for 1,usa today and i buy it on fridays during nfl season to see who is broadcasters in the games, college schedules etc.but only on fridays.

Huge win for Ashland tonight 28-21 over Clyde. Really impressed with the defense. Clyde was huge up front and had some big backs and Ashland did a good job of containing them. Nice start to the year.

Wooster played a heck of a game last night. While they came up short against Wadsworth, they competed at a level which surprised me a bit and had a real chance to put the game away in the last few minutes. Keep up the good work guys.

Wonder what to think about Mansfield now. Their first week loss to Norwalk looked like Norwalk was going to be a really good team, then they go and get smoked by Norwayne. Now it takes them 3 OT’s to beat and average Perkins team. I wonder if this team is as good as people (including me) thought they were.

In Seniors case, being athletic doesn't always mean good.

im definitly surprise at mansfield sr giving up 42 points to norwalk, which shocked me,and 34 points to perkins which aint figured to be in the sbc lake race.senior right now look like the middle of the pack of occ,as right now i see 1.ashland playing good competition winning 2 close games, 2.west holmes playing as expected and 3. wooster comimng off a tough loss to a good wadsworth team.so mansfield sr better wake up and play a lot better before its too late.

FWIW, they only gave up 14 of those in regulation, the other 20 came under the much different field position circumstances that are present in HS overtime

Mansfield will be a better offensive team once their starting Qb can play. The starter now is a great athlete but can’t through the ball. Also Mansfield Senior is without their starting RB this year because of an ACL Problem. Against Norwalk Mansfield also started a Freshman Corner because their senior had a knee issue. I’m not sure if he returned against Perkins or not.
My new picks for conference
1. Ashland 2. Wooster 3. Mansfield 4. West Holmes 5. Lexington 6. Mount Vernon
20. Madison

Some real surprises in the first week of conference play. Very surprised by the Lex/Mt. vernon score and Mansfield Sr. seems to be short of expectations this year. West Holmes could rise to a favorite for the conference.

Sr gets their qb in week 6. He'll have to throw 6 TD passes a game. He doesn't play defense, where their biggest need is.

They aren't scoring much either. Unfortunately, I'm being told, the Mansfield players believed the hype for this season more than some fans.

That sounds about right. When Norwalk punched them in the mouth, they haven't fully recovered.

Looks like the favorite to win the OCC is about to lose its second conference game as Lexington is taking it to Mansfield Sr in the 4th quarter.
With Wooster blowing out West Holmes tonight it’s going to be an exciting 4 weeks to see who will win the league this year.

I'm pretty sure Jake was referring to the 2nd level points Norwalk lost because Mansfield failed to win.

Jake seemed to have some concerns I was just helping him to alleviate them. To use a phrase used on me, "try to keep up". I think Jake was speaking of the affect the Mansfield loss has on Norwalk's playoff hopes.
