The GPA looked at is for the total body of work all 4 years so the better he can do not it will bring is lower years up. I'm still amazed a 1.85 will gain a college scholarship.
Actually in some ways the D2 level can be harder on academics than D1. Nice thing about D2 and D3 is I have not heard they have a roster limit. So they can have as many walk-ons as they get. D3 schools don't have scholarships but if they really want you they find ways to make it affordable for you.

His core was a 1.85, his overall GPA was like a 2.1. But it was Division 2 program, the reason they gave it to him is, because the lady said they felt sorry for not knowing the NCAA eligibility rules and basically letting him get that close to starting football (like 10 days away before finding out)before telling him he was ineligible for one year. Do I believe that? I don't know. All I know is a bill for 12,000 dollars for each year at a Division 2 college is better than the 21,000 we were going to pay for one year.
One thing you got to understand is I might say some crazy statements on here. But I'll never lie about anything on here. I'd rather embarrass myself. AND that's why I'll never vote for someone like Hillary. No integrity!!! LOL

If I was a HS football player today, that couldn't get a Power Five Conference scholarship. I would much rather go to Mt. Union and play for a National Title every year or an Ashland U and make the DII playoffs. As opposed to a MAC school and never even sniff a Bowl Game.
BTW, a player doesn't really "look" at schools until after they have more than one hard "offer".

You are starting to turn out to be a "ok" guy. My son really liked Mount Union and Youngstown State. I missed the Mount Union's football camp this year. My son was really impressed with the campus and stadium. I get to finally see it on Oct. 8th for his game day visit. I'm with you though; I love winners. People say you go to Mount Union you will never play, but the way I feel is if you aren't good enough to beat out the other guy, then maybe you should just be happy you were lucky enough to get a scholarship then.

Personally if it came down to it I'd play on a last place MAC team if it meant a free education. Isn't that the whole point?

The Harding vs North Union game seems pretty interesting to me for some reason. What does North Union bring to the table and what are some thoughts on the game? Nu has a couple injured kids. They are small in numbers, but really well-coached. They love the running game. They've had around 8 different guys score TDs. There's no superstar on the team, they are well balanced, in my opinion. Friday should be a great game but we will be down a couple kids. NU needs to stay healthy in order to make a playoff run. I've always thought North Union was a throwing team so that should be interesting as for Harding I'm not sure about us being back full strength but alot of ppl got to play last week so that helps Harding should have a huge advantage on the speed and corners

Not true, we've had several Galion kids go to Mt. Union and play. I didn't mean we never had a Galion kid got to Mount Union and not play. I met a few people at all the football camps we attended who told me you don't want your son to go there, because they recruit so many people from all over the country. They have a depth of talent (and huge number of kids on their team), and they continuously only play their best players...while the other kids never play on the team. I'd never be worried about that. I want my son to play with the best of the best. If he isn't one of them, I'm ok with that. He got a scholarship and ended up with a nice degree from a great school.

There is a huge difference between the number schools and the quality of the bowls a Power 5 conference goes to compared to the MAC. Just me, but I'd rather work as hard as I could, make as much as I could in the summer. Work jobs in college, get student loans and play for a National Title.

Right. Just being on a National Championship team, a band of brothers, friends for life, a ring that says it. Is something you can not put a price on. A LOT of money can be made over a lifetime. A LOT of money can be blown. Being part of a National Championship team lasts for ever.
Not just me that feels like that. Do you have any idea how many kids turn down scholarships from poor football programs and go to Mt. Union to live that dream? One of the reasons they have the history they do.

Actually more often than not they go there when their scholarship opportunity doesn't work out because they can transfer down divisions without having to sit out a season. They don't go there instead of accepting the scholarship first.

A transfer from Div1 to Div2 would still mean some if not all scholarship money. Not the case at Mt.U.

Interesting discussion. Yeah! I wouldn't know anything about scholarship money in transferring down or up in Divisions. That's not why he would decide on a scholarship. My son literally had a Division 3 University last night call him last night. The coach didn't even know he had got hurt. My son told him the whole situation with his injury. The coach told us to bring his high school transcripts to my son's game day visit. The college is going to try and find as much money as they can for him. I guess that's a good sign, especially when my son has been hurt for so long now. Like I said before, I would love for him to get a Division 2 scholarship, but I'm going to let my son decide where he wants to play. But knowing I always told my children from age one, "yeah you got to either get an academic or athletic scholarship out of high school..daddy isn't funding your college for you....or join the Marines!...." LOL
GO TIGERS...BEAT JA!!

A transfer from Div1 to Div2 would still mean some if not all scholarship money. Not the case at Mt.U. A transfer to a D2 school would also require a student to wade through much more stringent regulations by the NCAA especially if they intend to receive athletic aide, also not the case at MU. To maintain a scholarship you still must be passing a certain number of credit hours and be progressing toward a degree at what the NCAA deems an acceptable rate. If those 2 criteria are not met no scholarship $$$ regardless of division.

Your son is a great looking kid. I remember watching him play last year and he's a very respectable QB ..... Watched him throw pregame in street clothes (shorts) Friday night and he throws a nice ball. Even has the "QB" Hair. Best of luck to him in his endeavors!

gt, Mt Union is a great place to go to school and play football. Very tough to get on the field if you are a single position player. Many kids who are total athletes go there in one position and come out another. in past they will carry a lot of freshman and may 6 will be QBs. Maybe 3 will quit, 2 will change positions and the last one will stand on the sideline his entire time there as they recruited a guy after him that was better. And that is just the QB spot. Galion football does have a connection with MU in recent history.

There you are, cruising around at QB, paying your dues... You stick with it, others quit and you're the second or third guy and all of a sudden here comes a transfer scholarship kid from a D1 school who's not going to see the field where he is and he takes your spot. SUCKS, but it does happen.

Great information guys! I appreciate it, Scooter and Pre....read your comments to my son about the transfer kid coming in...His reply was: "He isn't taking my spot." LOL Oooh! To be young again. LOL I totally agree with you though about transfer kids coming in and taking spots on teams or kids switching to other positions. My co-worker who has a nephew who plays for Ashland. I was told Ashland recruited him for quarterback, as soon as they got him there they wanted him to lift and play linebacker. He was went very far in the State playoffs too, I think to the Championship game. In fact a couple of years ago, we visited Ashland and their current (at the time) quarterback wasn't even recruited to be quarterback, so the opposite can happen too. Take for instance Tiffin's starting quarterback now, he's very good. Hes walked-on the team on a baseketball scholarship. I heard he's been their quarterback for 4 years too. I think.
This is off-subject a bit has everyone seen the BIG (6'7") tight-end Ashland has. He's getting a bunch of looks from NFL teams. Good lord he's amazing!! BIG and fast too with absolutely great hands. You got to go watch him play.
**** Quarterback hair? Too freakin' funny. He goes and gets a haircut (and me being a Marine)..he comes back and I'm like "Really that's a haircut?" You can't even tell he got one. LOL

gt, That's and easy response from a kid standing in his kitchen. LOL! As presnapread pointed out, many of those kids (at MU) have already been offered a scholarship at larger schools but see the chance for a ring and love it. I would ask kids do you want an education cheap, playing time or to play on a winning team? Very few get all 3.

He definitely has the height, the arm, the hands (use two when taking the snap though ), and is reasonably mobile to compete for it. Being the best athlete available at the QB position in Galion is way different that competing for that position with 3/4 others who were the star at their high school too.

I could sit here and tell you stories that were told to him by football coaches, but some people on here would be offended. I did just watch two Division 2 football teams (who are both interested in Chase) play against each other. The one QB had 5 interceptions. His passes were wobbly. The other one didn't look all that better. The score was like 49-37 too. LOL I'm thinking Chase couldn't do any worse than that. LOL But Chase has to be able to play with confidence after this injury. I was already talking to him today about not playing with fear. Sometimes talking to an 18 year old kids about that...is challenging. LOL

I will say this we got to have one of the best kickers in the league. All kickoffs were in the end zone, and that darn kids kicked a 47 yard field goal that I bet you would have good from 55 yards out. It's amazing that boy has such a strong leg. He's good.
