I would say the line looked much better than it did last year. Well it should they only lost one player from last year.
They also need to do less 1 receiver routes as well if they want to help him.

Highland scrimmaged Watkins Memorial this past week and looked pretty good. Defense was flying to the ball and causing a ton of turnovers. Watkins scored one touchdown when Highland subbed in there second group. Offensively Highland did typical Highland stuff moving the ball down field on just about every possession. I actually do not think they scored but were inside the 5 multiple times but reached their 10 play max. QB Max Schrieber looked good throwing the ball and he has a lot of skill guys to work with.
I believe they scrimmage Danville Saturday and then go to Hartley next week before opening up at Bloom Carroll.

BV looked solid against a not great Newark team early this week. They have a solid d-line and linebackers on D, quarterback can spread it around on O to some solid receivers. They were supposed to have Thomas Worthington today, but I don't know if they had it or not (possible accident involving the lacrosse team).

Well just got back from our Centerburg scrimmage...Ooohh my! This could be a long season. I'm a person who tells it like it is. We got beat today. At the end the day, they scored 2 for 2. We went 1 for 2. But we are struggling on both sides of the ball. We can't run, and we can't stop the run. My son is hurrying his throws. He needs to settle down. We get burnt on long passes. Kept giving up the big play all day long. We look good at times. Grab the runner or the QB in the backfield, and then "BAM" long pass or long run. We got to tighten that up. I like how we finished the scrimmage when it matter, but we just couldn't stop them. We had them a couple times in either 3rd or 4th down but just couldn't do it. We got a young team, and it's really showing. We need some key players (including my son) to step it up and get these boys fired up.
Now our 2nd team played well, they have some things to work on, but they played with an intensity you need as a young ballplayers. You can tell in the next couple years Galion is going to have a very good team. We got a young QB who ran the offense well. In a couple of years, he could be very good.
So next Friday we have Shelby...ooh my again. At least it's at home, but if we don't contain their QB. He's gonna have some massive runs. I still have faith in my team. We got the skill players, but they are really going to have to start playing better as a team or it's going to be a VERY LONG season. That's no joke. Come on Tigers!!! Get an attitude!

Oh! I got to turn into an old concerned dad here and call out the Centerburg officials who were playing rap music during the our game today too. Now for me to complain about it when I listen to that sort of music in my car, you know it's got to be bad. But I thought it was VERY inappropriate. There's no place for that before or during the game. The problem is Centerburg blared it all during the game. I heard "Suck my...." The word "F...." like multiple times. I'm not talking just one song, like back-to-back. Now granted I do listen to that sort of music, but I heard a few parents complaining about it. There's no place for that at a high school game, even just a scrimmage. Am I wrong for calling it out on here?
Other than that craziness, I thought the high school facility and grounds were well kept. Centerburg has a very good team too. I was impressed with them. They are going to have a great season.

Galiontiger, It is a bit hypocritical to complain about that language when you are one of the parents who supported the Galion basketball coach who used much worse language around the kids all the time.

Now during baseball guys got on me for coming on here talking football. I'll do the same to you, my friend...this is football season, not basketball season. Hold your remarks until the season is in play. ha!
But here's some facts for you, since you don't know me at all. I don't know Coach Bright "at all". I didn't know him in Crestline, and I don't know him Galion. I've NEVER said two words to him about "anything" EVER! I know my son likes him. I see him yelling and screaming up and down the sidelines, just like I would be if my basketball team started screwing up. I do like his intensity on the sidelines though. I do support vocal coaches who show passion. I see that from him. All that other personal stuff is hearsay to me. I was never around to hear it, so how can I complain about it now? I can't. The problem with your argument is none of the kids complained to the Principal about the coach. Only a couple of parents did, now it seems like these same parents are still mad. Get over it and move on. The coach got warned. If he keeps doing it, he's fired. Pretty simple concept I would think you can even comprehend.
Buuuttt this loud speaker blaring profanities that I heard and with young kids around me. No place for those lyrics over a loud speaker at a football game. Plus why play it all game long?

I was not making this a basketball discussion. I was simply stating that you stuck up for a coach that uses the same kind of language in front of the kids. Also, there were 4 or 5 kids that did complain to the principal and even one went to the superintendent. I am not going to discuss everything in this forum because this thread is for football, I was just saying it is hard for you to complain about the language at the Centerburg scrimmage when worse things happen here without you complaining. I'll message you more details so we can keep it out of here.

I see a huge difference in a coach feeling he needs to use bad language in his coaching and some event officials broadcasting profanity over a speaker system at a game or scrimmage. Although I have my own personal opinions, the ultimate solution for both would be if you don't like it leave or pull your kid.

How have the other MOAC teams looked so far? I was at the Alder scrimmage and I wouldnt press the panic button just yet. A lot of guys up front getting their first taste of varsity football. They have all the skill to have another great season.

There are a lot of guys up front getting their first taste of Varsity Football. Let's see how we prepare for our next scrimmage in a few days... I have faith... Should be a better representation of things to come.. GO ALDER!

as far as galion goes,i see you playing keystone again. i read in the elyria chronicle telegram that the coach says they are going to be decent this year, but there star running back graduated so time will tell ,but anyhow keystone scimmaged norwalk st.paul last weekend in lagrange and got rolled over by st.paul 9-1.keystone is in a relatively week conference with clearview, wellington, oberlin, buckeye, columbia, lutheran west, etc. so galion should beat them.

And for the record, this will be the last meeting between Galion and Keystone. Galion is a perfect 5-0 against them and I would expect they will make it 6. Galion is young this year, and are learning a new system from a new coach. Their success will depend on how quickly they begin to gel together.

That is a difference in a coach's philosophy. Some coaches want to be challenged while others want a certain number of guaranteed wins.

I don't want just Keystone. I want our first 3 wins. That would be a great start to our season, just like last year. It's going to be a challenge. I think we can get it done, if we play up to the potential I have set for the boys..which is an undefeated season. (I'm joking..but it is kind of high.)

You balance your non league games. If your league is very difficult you sometimes want "warm up" games. You need points a .500 team that you can beat gives you points vs playing a good team that you may end of losing. Comes down to coaching preference. You also have to know if your league is weak that you can run your league schedule and get enough points to make the playoffs then you can schedule hard competition.

Like I said it just depends on what a coach is looking for.

What a coach is looking for can change over time. A coach takes over a program that has been historically a losing program, he is looking to schedule non-leagues games his team can win. That gets more kids out and keeps them out. Once the program improves and is a playing over .500 in the league. The coach is looking to schedule non-leagues to help prepare for the top teams in the league. When the program gets to the point of regularly competing for league titles, he's looking for non-league games that will help get his teams into the playoffs and seeding. Should depend on what the coach is looking for at a given moment in time.

^^^^so often the "fans"/admin don't want to give a coach time to develop such a timeline. It has to be "yesterday" or off you go.

In many cases the no league games are set by local rivalries and the coaches get little option to change. In this case the coach was looking for wins.

I'm just happy that the MOAC is not a 10 team conference anymore. Back when they just had everyone play everyone and you had one non league game.
