Christian Huffman is the running back you are talking about. A senior and first year at running back. Was 2nd team MOAC at defensive end last year. Good kid. Osborne left the team first week but was on sideline Friday in street clothes. It will be interesting this year. Hard to tell from scrimmages as Utica, Westfall and Bucyrus didn't put up much of a fight. We have Worthington Christian, Galion, and Ontario first 3 weeks. Lost Williams to graduation and Stambaugh to BV(3rd school in 4 years). Williams is a huge loss but kids on d line have played very well so far. Lots of athletes on field. Young O line also learning fast and have looked good. We will see once games start

Big week for JA to take the next step. Fridays scrimmage did not show much due to the competition, but I guess it was better than nothing after London cancelled. I'm looking forward to seeing an angry team and I'm sure Coach Glass will have them ready to go. BEAT MARYSVILLE! You are correct.. This is a Big Week for JA. It can set the tone for the rest of the season. Marysville always gives us fits, but you can expect it to be an exciting game to watch. I believe the kids will be ready, both mentally and physically. Go Alder!!

Looks like I'm the lone BV poster to make the transition over to here. I don't have a kid on the team so I have no idea what's going on with them right now, but I'll be at just about every game so I'll provide my usual measured insights as the season goes on. I do know that they have several impact move-ins from Liberty that will add some really good speed to the offense to go along with the QB, Spaulding. Defensively, I would expect them to be pretty stout in the front 7 but don't know anything about the secondary. They lost a ton of leadership off of last year's team so that's probably the #1 thing they will have to find early in the season. You're not the only one sir. BV should be strong. Very excited about this season; if they stay healthy they could make the post season (battle cry of any optimistic supporter). Need a solid performance against Hayes to get the ball rolling, looks like a game they could have a shot at. Losing away week one last year was a hard pill to swallow and I'm sure they haven't forgotten. Sending good vibes to whoever plays Galion because of the nonstop "my son the QB" banter (he's a descent QB and I'm sure he is a great kid, I'm just tired of reading the same stuff in different words everyday for the past two seasons) and wishful for marysville because who doesn't like to see JA lose openers? Go Barons!

I'm curious to see how the Centerberg/Cardington game shakes out later in the year. However, none of our first 3 opponents would fare any better against Shelby or Madison than we did. That being said we will need to play our butts off to go 3-0 but I believe it's doable. WF....You and I just disagree. You love Ohio State QB and think they are next coming of another John Elway. I say you have been drinking too much of Meyer's koolaide. But listen, you have your points. I have mine. Let's just see how our QB does this year. I'm sorry I don't sit on my computer constantly reading Ohio State's recruiting news daily. I would rather be down at Ohio State watching the young kids actually throw and compete than on my computer putting other people down for their lack on knowledge of names and stats. I still love you though. You are true scholar. I can respect that. You keep me inform on the stats, and I keep you informed on what the kids look like live. Silly GT, I "love" my wife and kids, not Ohio State QBs. We disagree only because you are not paying attention, know nothing about Urban Meyer, his offense or his QBs. Comparing JT Barrett to John Elway is asinine. How many times must I tell you. Urban's QBs most likely will never be great NFL QBs. Urban's offense is not designed for Pro-I QBs. It needs a "dual threat" QB, a different catagory of QBs than "single threat" QBs "Dual Threat" QBs MUST be exceptional runners as well as good passers. Please note, I did NOT say "great" passers. Again you prove your ignorance saying where I sit all day. You can't even see me. I read A LOT. the Internet, news papers, magazines, books of all subjects. I read a lot about investing. Do you read anything? Do you have any desire to acquire diversified k nowledge? I don't have a photographic memory, but when I read I make an effort to remember what I read, in my quest for knowledge. You admit you never played football. I have CLOSELY watched football' at all levels, probably longer than you'be been a live. ANd watched it in a different manner than you have. Like coaches, I don't just watch the QB and TB, I watch the line play. I will not take your information on what you see. You obviously don't see well, based on my readings

Go Barons! Damn. I've actually enjoyed interacting with the BV people I've met since we've joined the MOAC. So I'll tell you what I'll make you a deal. If you don't hold GT against us I won't hold you against BV. Now I graduated from OWU way back in 1991 and I recall Hayes and BV being a pretty serious rivalry. Is that still the case?

Well I'm glad I'm not the one (maybe, lol). BV could be very good, or the could struggle. In reading a couple of the preview articles in the Gazette and the Marion Star, I'm hearing Coach Stephens voice some of the same areas of concern as I would have with regards to the offensive line and secondary. Listen, I'll root as hard for the Barons as anyone, but I'm also a realist (as anyone who knows me from the Huddle can attest). I'll tell it as I see it. I just need to see some of the unproven players perform before I'll be ready to say BV is a serious threat to Alder or RV. They'll definitely compete, but they need some kids to step up that haven't had very many (if any) varsity snaps.
And trench90, if you have any serious hopes that our boys get to week 11 this year, you need to be rooting hard for EVERY red division team in weeks 1-3 including Galion and Alder. We will need all the 2nd level points possible to make it in our region.

Galion, BV-Hayes is still a huge rivalry in terms of the gate. Unfortunately, BV hasn't been as competitive on the field as we would like, but to be fair, Hayes has grown to be much much bigger than BV, and given the small geographic size of their district compared to us, has a much easier time getting their kids out. Now, I'd say the numbers on the BV team this year seem to be as good as I ever remember in my 15+ years living in the district. Hopefully that trend continues, because there are some really good athletes in the system.
There was actually a two-year stretch back about 5-6 years ago where the rivalry didn't happen. I have no idea whether it was BV, or Hayes, or mutual that decided to not play, but they very quickly resumed after the two-year hiatus, and I would have to say they both didn't realize how big a crowd they were giving up by not playing this game.

Go Barons! Realistically you do want league opponents to win non-league for playoff point purposes, but I kind of like the mindset behind this guys post here. No love for conference opponents. I'm pretty neutral with the MOAC, love football, so just soak in the action. College football though I cheer for the Buckeyes and when it's time for bowl season no I do not support the rest of the Big 10. I want to see Michigan lose, I want to see Michigan State lose, Penn State lose, Wisconsin, etc. So even though it would help BV out if Galion and JA win their non league games, I get where your coming from.

Trust me as much as you have reservations about "pulling" for your conference teams to win out of conference games you'd much rather have that than watch BV have a good season and end up the 8 seed or sitting out of the playoffs completely.

You gentlemen who made the point that Galion and JA need to win all the games possible, but still lose to BV for the Baron's best chance of getting to week 11 are completely correct. Perhaps I was just a bit butt hurt from the bashing of Mr. Meyer, but still there is no love lost within division foes. Galion, from my understanding, was once a storied program. But in my limited experience with their faithful, somehow I can't hold them I high reguard. Perhaps it is the mental image of Randy Marsh I get whenever I read anything galiontiger says. As for JA, who out there doesn't feel a bit of ill will to the school who consistently whoops up on them? Hopefully BV can get them this year. Go Barons.

Let me correct you. Galion is hardly a storied program in terms of winning like say a JA or a Pleasant although we do have among the longest histories in the state if that counts for anything. We do have 1 state title in 85 but I believe that season also accounts for our only playoff victories in school history as well. Recently we have had some successes but as much of that can be attributed to our schedule as our talent. Our playoff results kind of speak for themselves. If it helps there is a block feature on here so you don't even have to see his posts.

And that recent "storied" history made galiontiger want to move in for a couple years. 😀 Which is funny because the guy moved here from Wooster who has had a much better team that we have the last few years as well. I realize that the kid was coming from Crestline but he could have been "showcased" better and gotten more pub playing in the OCC which is scouted much more heavily than the MOAC is. Of course, I'm sure Hawkins promised to showcase him in the offense after Barnett graduated. Pretty tough break when he left for Ontario.

Hahahaha! If you guys only knew the true story. But you never will...... I will just say this, the move was made for last year, not this year. This year will take care of itself. There was no way Chase was going to move 45 minutes away from his siblings and mom. I would have loved him to come to Wooster. I would have had an 8 minute drive to work instead of a 45 minute drive to work. I had NO PROBLEM on Hawkins moving from Galion. It never even crossed my mind to care. I was even a little surprised he was still here when we came actually. The move wasn't made because of Chris Hawkins. Though I love that guy, he's a great guy to have a conversation with, and he took care of my son then and still now. I knew he was not happy in Galion with the way "he" perceived Galion taking care of him and his football team.
Please block me....I just like to hear myself speak anyways. (joking..cause I know some of you guys can get "butt-hurt" on the things I say). I was going to go easy on bragging about my son on here to you guys but not anymore since I know it irritates some of you guys. But the thing is I brag him up if he plays that way, but if he doesn't I'm his WORST critic. Just ask him. This season is going to be awesome, no matter how many games we win or lose. It's his last one. He's in some sort of position to get some kind of scholarship, as long as he can get his damn ACT and grades up. Those later 2 things will be the ONLY thing that stops him from getting a scholarship...NOT BV or JA. There was two reasons I made the move from Crestline: I wanted "all" the Ohio Football Colleges/Universities to see what skill (I saw in him) that he possessed. He wasn't going to get that exposure at Crestline going 0-10 every year. and 2. I wanted him to have the skill players around him on even playing field to be tested against the best to see if he could perform. He has already proven that he can hold up, this season will just add on to that. So hate all you want to, I do know that if the tables were turned and someone on here had a son similar to Chase, and they were on here bragging him up..I'd be like "That is too cool. I can't wait to see him play when my team plays you." But I understand some guys on here aren't like me. I have no clue why. I could make guesses, but they would just be assumptions. I don't like to assume, so I'll make a comment about you. I won't make it personal though or at least I'll try not to. I let them do that for me.
Plus I just want to let you guys know, I still love you all. I know you want only the best for me, and I can truly appreciate that. You guys are the greatest. Did that sound sarcastic? I sure hope not.

Feed that crap to somebody that doesn't know better. Since your move had nothing to do with Hawkins and was completely above board please explain to me how you and Hawkins managed to get our ENTIRE athletic dept put on probation by the OHSAA. Hawkins stint here at Galion was beset with, how should I put this, a number of recruiting allegations and some sketchy transfers to say the least. So for you to say that Hawkins had nothing to do with your being here is akin to you trying to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge. You see I'm not some naive resident with orange and blue colored glasses. I know where the bodies are buried around here. I also know that why we "self reported" what we did. Because if the whole truth came out your son, who in my opinion is an innocent victim in all of this and that is ABSOLUTELY NOT meant to be sarcastic, would have never been eligible last season and Hawkins would have never coached another down of football here and most likely would still be unemployed. You see, I know you're not stupid. Your sons played at Crestline so if you wanted to prove your son could compete I know that you know where Wynford is. Being from Wooster and doing even a little homework on who does the best job at developing qb's in the area I'm certain you know where Ashland is as well. But I'm just guessing that neither of those 2 teams agreed to anoint your son the starter as soon as he walked through the door (but I'm sure that conversation with Hawkins never happened before you made your decision to come to Galion SARCASM INTENDED).

I recall a kid over here that was the "second coming". Went off to Arizona State. One year later he was back home and faded into oblivion. Then there was Trevor, went to Edinboro State in PA. Had try outs with at least one NFL team and is doing quite well in the CFL now. Just sayin, but pride goeth before a fall.

The theory of "they won't find me here" is silly. If you are good, they will find you. If Galion was the difference then skip the camps and combines. Kids get recruited from teams with all kinds of records.
