Figured I would start a thread for the regular season. Games start this week and there are some decent matchups week one. Upper and Willard looks like the best game to watch. Bucyrus and Galion continue their long series dating back to the NOL days. What's anyone else's thoughts?

The Royals open on the road at North Union Thursday. Not sure if Crall will be ready to play or not. North Union usually is pretty good. This will be a good test for Wynford early. Hoping for a competitive team from Coach Mohr.

Friday: Mohawk at New Riegel. NR won opener last year before Mohawk won in postseason. Interested to see how Warriors start season after last year's success. Saturday: Carey at Van Buren. Similar thought to game above. VB was 15-7 last year and 3rd/12 in BVC.

CC opens with mansfield christian on friday and has sandusky perkins on sat both games at cc. Will be intetesting to see how quick cc gels and adapts to the loss of mccreary. My guess is it may take a few weeks of games but look for cc to keep improving as year goes along.

Hopefully Crawford was able to do some gelling in their pre-season scrimmages. How did they look in those scrimmages?

Cc was a little inconsistent in the preseason. Looked very good at times, at others not so good. Not a lot of depth. All subs off the bench have had no varsity experience until now. Losing a player they were counting on heavily for this season and having had playing with that player all summer long has the kids adapting to new roles that they may not have been anticipating being in. Should be a fun year watching this group develop. Hope crall gets healthy for the royals. Hate to see anyone with the injury bug. Without him it could be a very long year for your royals. With him and with morh’s leadership i could see possibly a .500 season for them or maybe better.

Dislike that they moved when Upper and C.C play. Loved that being a rivalry game to end the season.

Agree. Liked that Crawford vs Upper played last in league play rotation and wished Upper played Carey late as well. Upper Crawford and Carey play each other early now with schedule change. Wish those games were last each rotation.

Royallballdad was curious how the royals looked last nite. Saw it was a low scoring game with royals on short end. Did crall play?

Wynford did not look good. A lot of missed shots. Just no true basketball players other than Crall. Josh played and had 12 pts & 7 rebounds. Wynford struggles to score. NIU nothing special. They had a taller Junior that was pretty good. Wynford’s JV got beat 54-17 and it wasn’t that close. Might be a long season for the Royals.

CC wins 71 to 22. Puts 5 in double figures. Very balanced scoring tonite. Shared the ball very well and made the extra pass. The soph walker led the way with 17. Cc jv wins 45 to 8. Mansfield christian didn’t score 1st points from the field till late 4th.

Any relation to Ed Young that played for Upper in early 80s?

CC 55 perkins 38. Feichtner leads way with 20 and fenner 18. Cc played well at times but didnt put together 4 strong qtrs. Soph walker didnt really get into flow of game as picked up 2 quick fouls and only played a min and half in first half. Will have to play much better to compete with upper next sat. Cc jv drop a good ballgame 44 to 42.

Well week one is in the books. Only surprise to me out of the weekend was Van Buren over Carey. Other than that it was about no surprises. Bucyrus-Willard game almost turned in to an MMA match from what I heard 😂🤣😂
Now on to week 2. Carey-Willard mid week should be a really good game. Upper-Galion I'm guessing Upper by 20 in that one. Senaca East-Ottawa Hills on Friday, is that one moved or not? And then league games start on Saturday night with 4 games. Upper- C.C. will be an big early season test with even higher emotions than normal. Definitely will be checking out that game this weekend.

Wynford struggled Thursday. Saturday vs Margaretta lost in OT. And surprising looked quite a bit better. Crall had 30. Looking forward to going to watch Upper at Galion Wed and then seeing Willard vs Carey Thurs. Vent for Upper goes for 29 & 31 this weekend. How did the McCreary kid do in his first weekend in Orange & Black? Also surprised a little about Carey losing to Van Buren. Mohawk vs Fostoria Tuesday.

According to the daily chief union mccreary stat line for his 1st game was 22 points 9 assists 8 boards and 4 steals. The upper paper does a great job on all the local teams in that area. Much better than the telegraph forum does imo. Reading the carey article from there 1st game sounds like they have some young guards getting there 1st taste of varsity experience so that might be reason for there struggle this weekend? Wynford must of played very well sat. Margaretta beat a solid western reserve team friday fairly handily friday. Should be a good week of games on tap to go watch. Love basketball season!

Looking forward to sat nites big game between the eagles and the rams. As big ox eluded to, always a big game and emotions will definitly be on full throttle for this one. I’m hoping cc can somehow use those emotions to the good and pull off the upset. I expect a packed house and a tournament atmosphere if the game is close. CC staying out of foul trouble is my #1 key for them to get the W. Early foul trouble could lead to a hole to deep to climb out of. When upper gets up big early they are virtually unbeatable with there style of play. It’s a must to stay within striking distance of them. After the 1st qtr at galion they put it in cruise control rest of game. Good luck eagles! Keep the emotions in check! Same thing applies to the fans, keep em in check!

The Crawford v Upper game should be a great atmosphere. Probably standing room only. Unfortunately for me I will not get to see it as I will be st the Wynford v BC game. Hoping my Royals get there first win of the season. BC played both Plymouth & SC pretty tough.

Agree with purefan. For Crawford to win at Upper they will need to keep their starters out of foul trouble. Also they will need to control the pace as best as they can. Crawford will struggle to win if Upper scored 70+ Crawford’s size could give Upper problems.

Are you implying it’s not a big game because of upper’s dominance? 14’-15’ Cc 17 -1 Upper 14-4 Carey 14-4 15’-16’ Upper 16-0 B.C. 12-4 CC 11-5 16’-17’ Upper 16-0 CC 13-3 Carey 13-3 17’-18’ Upper 15-1 CC 14-2 Mohawk 12-4 Only common theme is upper and cc at the top of league. Upper has dominated n10 as they should. Cc has been there top challenger year in year out. Thus as in years past, is a BIG game.

It can always be a big game regardless of who has won. But it's not much of a rivalry by definition.

I didn't imply anything. I stated scores and nothing else. I don't control what you think upon reading numbers. Why should US dominate the N10? Its football record along shows that size doesn't automatically equal wins. Why haven't the girls dominated basketball as well? How did Carey and Buckeye Central overcome such adversity to be good in girls basketball? Your comment was an ignorant one. #DeadHorse

It can always be a big game regardless of who has won. But it's not much of a rivalry by definition. So is Ohio State-Michigan football no longer a rivalry? rivalry — noun — competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field
