Maybe those six teams on Galion’s upcoming schedule will forfeit out of fear? Nobody wants to be embarrassed by the Splash Brothers and the mighty Tigers.

Shelby solidified themselves as the team to beat after a solid victory last night. Good all around performances by Ramsey and Bruskotter. Ramsey probably didn’t make a shot outside three feet all night. All dishes for layups or put backs on offensive rebounds. But the bigger effort was him shutting down Carson Smith in the second half. I think he only scored six of his 20 or so points after the half.
Shelby seems to hitting their stride now. Seeing a ton more effort on both ends from just about everyone who plays. Lot different than the first two games against Madison and Pleasant. It’s good for them see the outcome of their hard work.

Shelby Beat Galion 78 -31 last Saturday At Galion. Galion has been in dire straights in boys bball for a few years now it seems. Makes you feel like it will take a herculean effort to get it going. Or going back to being the big school in a small school league They were mediocre during their NCC years also. If anything, they were more competitive in their final NOL years. And competitive means that they made their only regional tournament in 2008-09. Their last league championship was 1974-75.

Why is Lex playing Galion? I’m not the AD at either school so I have no idea. Galion and Lexington had played each other as a local game for many years until they joined the MOAC. The schools agreed in 2020 to get back on each others schedule in the 21-22 season.

Galion losing to Mt Gilead and Highland losing to Danville got me to thinking. How good is the MOAC looking at head to head games. #1Shelby, #2RV, #3Ont, and #4MH is the order as of now.
The difference between #1 and #2 is a 14 point game and #1 and #4 is a 20 point game. The difference between #2 and #3 is a 36 point game and #2 and #4 was a 3 point game. The difference between #3 has only been one game in the top 4 and was a 36 point loss. The difference with #4 is a 20 point loss to #1 and a 3 point loss at the buzzer to #2

I was implying it is very early to be able to say who is a good team based on their record. Shelby's loss was a surprise and their close win the Pleasant was also an eye opener. They may now have it figured out. It normally takes an entire round of league play before we see where teams are.

I’d say it’s fair to say that Shelby/RV are really good teams, Ontario/Harding are good and rest are bad. Being said, Shelby might be really good in MOAC, but won’t get out of district with Senior and Lexington in the way.

As I said in the preseason, the non conference games for Shelby and RV will show how good those teams are. Both teams should have 12 “gimme” wins from conference play. Even at .500 in non conference would have those two teams at 16-6, 17-5, 18-4. Ontario could have a a strong second half. Marion is still unpredictable.

Is it me or does seem like a common them for the MOAC in football and basketball. There’s always a good team or two in MOAC play but once they step outside the MOAC it’s over with. I just don’t see how Shelby or Ontario will get better in this league.
