If Cleveland wins the next 2 games they'll break the Major League record for most wins with only one loss. Another one of those records set in the 1800's.
Francona said he started Salazar to see if he would be worthy of a spot in the bullpen on the post season roster. Which means the Indians bullpen gave up one run in 9 innings against the Angels yesterday....AND Salazar was the least worthy of all who pitched.
Who would have thought that a healthy Salazar would not be on the roster if the Indians made the playoffs? Who would think that a starter who has given up only 1 earned run in his last 6 starts might not be one of Cleveland's 4 starters in the playoffs and might not even make the post season roster? Who would have thought that Brantley would only play 88 games and Chis 78 and the Indians are one game away from having the best record in baseball? Who would have thought the Indians would have 3 players in their lineup with over 30 home runs and Santana having a good year isn't one of them? Who would have thought Lindor 23 years old would have 33 HRs and Ramirez 24 years old would have 28? Who would have thought that the Indians 2 catchers would combine for 20 home runs and 90 RBIs?? 2nd most RBIs of any position on the team. Who would have thought a bullpen lefty not named Miller would have the best ERA on the team at 0.00? Who would have thought that Miller would be injured during the Indians winning streak? Who would have thought that Jason Kipnis at 30 years old would no longer be a regular starter for the Indians, now or in the future? He is under contract until April 4 2020 at $8.5 Million/year.

Coincidence? I attribute the culmination of all the above superlatives to one source.....Terry Frankona.

The Indians have now tied the franchise record for road wins in a season. They have a chance tomorrow to break it outright in the last road game of the year.

Cleveland hasn't lost 2 games in a row since August 22 and August 23. A month and counting.
Who has hit the most 3 run home runs on this team?
Is there another 2nd base SS combination in baseball that has a total of 61 home runs?
In 18 of Kluber's 28 starts, he's allowed 5 of fewer hits.

And there it is, 53 road wins is a new franchise record for the Indians.
And at 98-58, they are 40 games above .500 for the first time since 1995.

As far as I can see there is no pitcher in either the AL or NL who will twenty games this year. Has this ever happened before?

With 6 games to go:
The magic number to clinch home field in the ALDS is down to 1
The magic number to clinch the #1 seed in the AL is 4 (the number needed to ensure a tie with HOU, as CLE holds the tiebreaker)
The Indians are 1 game back of the Dodgers for the best overall record

Tribe road to title is 75% likely host NYY, host HOU, then imo host CHI / WAS winner.
Not a prediction just saying what I think our path would be if so

Are we supposed to guess? Lindor for the 3 run homers? The 2B/SS question- If in the history of baseball I guess AROD and whoever played 2B with Texas right before going to NY (Michael Young). By the way, how was the 61 calculated? Lindor has 33, Kipnis-11 so I guess Ramirez must have 17 while playing 2B?

Time to vent. Am a half-season ticket holder. Was sent email detailing how to get post season tickets starting today. When finally able tobget on lthis afternoon, could only get SRO tickets for first series (at $100 apiece). Go to stubhub and can get any ticket I want at eve higher price. Typical BS

With Boston's loss last night the Indians have officially clinched home field in the ALDS
Minnesota's magic number is now down to 2, so there's decent chance the visitor's clubhouse at Progressive Field will see a champagne celebration this week.

Nice outings by Salazar, Clevinger, Miller & Smith tonight....and then Allen just comes into a 4-0 game, gives up 2 runs and allows the tying run to come to the plate before finally finishing it off.
99 wins on the year ties the 1996 team for 3rd most in franchise history

Now 62, the the total home runs that Lindor and Ramirez have hit, who I'm sure the Indians front office would like to be their double play combination for the next 10 years.

Who makes Cleveland's post season roster?
It must be submitted by midnight 8/31. A new roster is submitted when a team advances. If a player is injured a replacement can be made during a series.
The easy ones: Catchers - Gomes and Perez Starters - Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Tomlin (I don't agree with Tomlin, Francona's says he's his guy.
Now the tougher decisions.
Infielders - Diaz, Gonzalez, Lindor, Ramirez, Santana, Urshela, Encarnacion(DH, 1st)
Outfielders - Allen(L), Almonte(S), Bruce(L), Chisenhall(L), Guyer(R), Kipnis(L)also 2nd base, Jackson(R), Naquin(L), Brantley(L)(as soon as Francona can add him he will).
Relievers - Allen(R), Clevenger(R), Goody(R), McCallister(R), Miller(L), Olson(L), Salazar(R), Shaw(R), Smith(R)
That's 31, can only have 25

My Thoughts for round 1:
2 - Catchers - Gomes and Perez 4 - Starters - Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Tomlin 5 - Infielders - Lindor, Ramirez, Santana, Urshela, Encarnacion 5 - Outfielders - Almonte(S), Bruce(L), Chisenhall(L), Kipnis, Jackson(R) 9 - Relievers - Allen(R), Clevenger(R), Goody(R), McCallister(R), Miller(L), Olson(L), Salazar(R), Shaw(R), Smith(R)
Hard ones to get rid of for me: Gonzalez - young guy who can play multi infield spots and has speed. Tito normally likes having a guy like that on his postseason bench. Allen - again young and with speed. Only reason I put Almonte in there is because he is a switch hitter, and he could play any of the OF spots. If Chis can hit he'll make the roster just from what he did early in the season. Guyer just hasn't been right all year.

Think Tito will try everything in his power to have Brantley make the initial roster cut....just out of loyalty. I don't agree with that, but saw a clip last night saying Tito is leaning that way. Can't afford to have him get back into shape and break-in during the playoffs. Tribe has won 100 games without him, so why do it now?

I seriously doubt Brantley will be on the roster of the first playoff series. If Cleveland makes it to the World Series, I wouldn't bet against Brantley being on the roster. As Molitor said about Miguel Sano, "Even if he can't run, he's the 25th guy on my roster in case a Curt Gibson miracle is needed."

I'd have no issue having him start the first one on the road. Though it all depends on who you want pitching on normal rest, etc. I know one thing for sure - I'm good with whatever Tito decides. He will talk to his players and coaches and make the right decision.
