Plan on going to the Bellevue-CCC game. Does CCC bring much back from their state title team? I think it should be a good game. CCC lost a lot of players and need to replace 10 on defense. They also lost their QB to graduation. Maxx Preps picks the Edison Chargers as State Champions this year and picks CCC as the #5 team this year. That's putting CCC pretty high for having to replace there defense but maybe another good recruiting year?

edison has a good thing going, but maxpreps needs to evaluate that division before making such a bold prediction

Edison's recent updates to their athletic facilities are very nice.

Edison's recent updates to their athletic facilities are very nice. Edison has had a great run and will be very good this year. They will be down a couple of years after that but they are getting some nice athletes that are moving into the area at the junior high level.

Uh, football has been an integral part of high school sports since the early 1900's, soccer is an imported sport and not been a part of the high school sports scene, till most recently. Your argument is against proven success, so you think Bellevue would be better served by diluting it's football program, to gain more crossover games?.....huh? Soccer has been played at little Ontario for over 40 years. From my experience watching Ontario's soccer and football over those years. The only "diluting" that soccer does to a football program is reducing the number of kids standing on the sidelines of a football game that never play in games. Over those years I NEVER saw an O-lineman or D-lineman playing soccer. I can remember ONE soccer player that would have made a very good LB or DE. ONE soccer player that had the physical qualities to be a good QB. ONE that would have been a heck of a RB. A couple that would have made good DBs or WRs. So that's 6 or 7 athletes in 40 years that could have made a difference on a football team. What I do not know is if their mommy's would allow them to play football or if they like to "hit or be hit". What I do know is that the vast number of athletes that could be a good QB, RB, or WR would much rather play on Friday nights in front of 2000 fans instead of a Wednesday afternoon in front of 200 fans. Soccer sucks!

piratefan, it's not quite that bad but it does take something special(knowing a player, a coach, supporting a school or a program) for most Americans to enjoy it. Most of the schools in Ohio like yours and the ones mentioned above to this sport conversation, Bellevue & Ontario, are larger than most schools in the state and have the enrollment to support multiple team sports in the fall. I am all for giving kids the chance for different things as long as it doesn't financially burden the school. But the fact is that adding sports will dilute other sports.

Seems everyone tries to push soccer in America. well, IMHO, it sucks. Watching the grass grow, or paint drying, is more exciting. Most boring sport I've ever tried to watch. I gave the World Cup games ONE shot. Couldn't take more than 15 minutes of that snooze inducing game. I love all kinds of sports. Most of them, even if I don't understand everything about them, are entertaining. Seriously, I just cannot understand how people can get excited about soccer. I think it's all the "soccer moms" not wanting little Johnny to get hurt playing an American game. Leave soccer to the rest of the world. They can have it. Sorry, don't mean to derail this thread.....back to football.

shorten field. use less people. increase goal height 1 foot. then soccer might be better liked.

The same could be said for football. They already do that it's called arena football. if that's your preference 😉

Now you are just being silly. I've known players from both sports. Don't think for a minute that putting on pads and a helmet makes someone tough. We all know guys who have played football that are not. And I know of soccer players who could have succeeded without question on the football field but played soccer because they loved the game. Not the sport but the game.

And even more to the topic, on another thread it was mentioned that Hopewell-Loudon is on board to join this new SBC. Anyone know anything more about that possibility? (I tried searching for any news of this and came up empty, though this search is what lead me to find that big article I just posted above)

I'd expect some clarity in the next couple of weeks.

Not sure if its been discussed yet, but will the new league change anything,(computer points, etc.)other than leveling league play that will make it harder or easier for SBC teams to make it to playoffs? Hope its not a stupid question, but its getting a little confusing.

Hope its not a stupid question, but its getting a little confusing. The more league games you play the lower your computer points will likely be. This is why the MAC dropped a league game a few years back. They used to play 9 league games and now they play 8.

talking to a bellevue fan today about the football season.
Bellevue AD apparently is crying the blues because the Middle Division of the SBC wont schedule them. Who do they want to play from the middle? my guess is Huron? they already scrimmage oak harbor and port clinton.
Huron and Perkins play week one
week two huron and sandusky play
huron im told is locked in week 3 with streetsboro ? for this upcoming year bellevue is going with west holmes
the 4th week bellevue has shelby
the final week bellevue has start huron has margaretta
Edison is not going to play bellevue and i'm sure they wouldve been very upfront about it from the beginning.
vermilion? why would bellevue want to play them?
So i said, why not let fremont ross in? He says there too big. I said but you're asking smaller teams to do the same thing you refuse to do.
and why do we have 3 divisions if we want to play each other in every game?
I told the guy to tell your AD to shut the hell up.

Competitive Balance Numbers for Fall 2017 Fremont - 461 - DII Bellevue - 267 DIV Shelby - 254 DIV Port Clinton - 253 DIV Vermilion - 234 - DIV Edison - 208 DV Huron - 207 DV Oak Harbor - 197 DV You do not need a calculator to see what's glaring about your point-of-view.

the point is King Why should schools cross over for all 10 games? if they're going to do that make it one happy big huge conference.

King- First, you know how "unanimous votes" go....Clyde and Bellevue were against Ross coming in...others had concerns about their size. A few wanted them and a bunch in the River Division didn't care. I had friends in the room. it was unanimous when it was clear it would not pass, because the River Division would stay out of the way and vote whichever way everyone else did. As for the reminder, you can now take Shelby out of the Bay Division, as they will be gone as soon as they can. Now what you do? Genoa and Woodmore aren't coming. The only answer of who fits geographically, has all the sports, and actually WANTS to come to the SBC is only one school: Fremont Ross. The Bay division can't stay at 5 schools (particularly for football). It just can't.

Correct. Willard moves to the Bay Division. 6-6-8 will be the breakdown once Gibsonburg, Danbury and Hopewell arrive.
I'm not saying Fremont will never be admitted but I can assure you they will not get the support they need any time soon.
Don't sleep on Woodmore...

Too bad for Willard. In the River Division they'd have a chance to rekindle their football program and win a Title in basketball. That won't happen in the foreseeable future in the Bay Division.

That could work for Willard playing 5 division games and still giving them 5 games to schedule games with teams of their liking.

Their basketball team is already in the Bay Division, so nothing is changing there. The only sport Willard has in the River division is football.

Correct. Willard moves to the Bay Division. 6-6-8 will be the breakdown once Gibsonburg, Danbury and Hopewell arrive. How about the other sports? 6-7-9? (Margaretta in Bay) 6-8-8? (Margaretta and someone else in Bay) 6-6-10? (Margaretta in River) Any idea when Hopewell would be able to join? Because it would work out best for the SBC if they could join the same year Shelby leaves.

I think it's likely Hopewell and Shelby swap happens in the fall of 2019. Shelby's hang up is North Union's new league.
As for the breakdown in other sports, there will need to be some considerations made. My initial guess would be 7-7-8. Vermilion in Lake, Willard and Margaretta in the Bay.
