Hypothetical situation. Two equal coaches. Two different situations. One variable. Which is better. Simple.

Two equal coaches. One in the building, one not. Which is better?

Well the example of Patrick Henry was just brought up a few posts ago and I brought up Hawkins at Galion at the beginning of the thread. Those are 2 specific examples. I didn't say an example where it worked. I'm asking for an example where it's better. I agree it can work. I find it hard to believe it's better.

Agree to disagree. If you want to minimize the time your coach is exposed to your kids then he shouldn't be the guy, IMO. Give me an specific example where less contact is better. Change my mind.

Sure, and hanging out in his room during your study hall. I'm not going to buy that it's not an advantage. Hanging out in his room during study hall is generally not where the guys are really supposed to be, in my experience. They usually don't get much studying done there, and if they don't have a need for a study hall, the boys should really fill their schedule with something productive instead. Don't be so literal. You get my point. The more interaction a coach has with the kids the stronger the relationship and the faster it develops. Of course there are great coaches that aren't in the building. Nobody can deny that more opportunities exist when the guy is in the building and the more opportunities the better. Not just study hall. Lunch, the hallway, the parking lot. The coach can wander into study hall, gym class, etc on his planning period. Also, I'll give a football a player a study hall even if they don't always need it. If they get good grades and are in college prep classes and doing well you don't think they could use an occasional 45 minutes to chill. They have a part time job after school. It's called football. They're kids. They have plenty of time to work their butts off when they're our age. One study hall isn't going to kill their Ivy League chances.

At this point I can't keep track of conferences and members. As they say, you can't tell the players without a program. Who are the current MOAC members so I know where I'm driving in 1-2 years?

Walking the halls can be over rated. Trust between players and coaches is built in during practice, games and off season conditioning events. Sure, and hanging out in his room during your study hall. I'm not going to buy that it's not an advantage.

I'm guessing Scarlet is not happy with Willard BOE not the coach. I suspect he expected them to make him an offer to get him in the district.
You have to admit having the coach walking the hallways is going to build rapport and trust. Seeing him at practice only is going to slow that process.

What is a proper ID? A fake one that many illegals can obtain for 50 dollars? Or is it a US issued working VISA that is verified? Anyone can say they check their workers for proper ID, but that is a very grey area that leaves a ton of room for speculation. Your quote might make your point, but saying something doesn't make it so. If it did I'd be a billionaire.

Rambo, I can't speak for other farms in other areas. I can only speak for our farm. We have a substantial labor force and appear to be in decent shape for the summer. If the people don't have the proper ID, they don't get hired simple as that. High majority of the employees we hire are the same ones and the same families that have been here for years. You don't jack about what we do or who works for us or the cost of labor to produce a crop and the packages there in. You can claim whatever you wish, I'm an owner and I know the facts. We do things the right way, and we work our jack wagons off doing it right alongside the help from dusk till dawn,,,6 days a week. And yes,,we pay plenty of OT,,it's one the of the drawing cards, these people want hours and lots of them---and we provide that. If you are doing it the right way then good for you. Most don't, they like their slave labor and pay their workers like slaves. They are the ones that run to the NY Times, CNN and say if we don't let illegals in then food will skyrocket and people will go hungry. You claim to already be paying good wages and are still making a profit. This isn't rocket science. In 1860 they claimed slaves were necessary for cotton picking. In 2017 they claim 'illegals' are necessary for vegetable picking. Nobody went without clothes once the slaves got paid. Nobody will go hungry because only legals pick the vegetables. You used the word "most" in the second sentence. Do you have a reputable source that proves > 50% of farmers use illegal labor?

Tommy, I don't think it's quite that simple. You ignoring to do something at a business you own is not the same as someone just coming here trying to better their lives and have a job. I still don't understand why people care so much if someone comes here and works a job that no one else is doing anyway. And don't give me the "they don't pay taxes, they get free things" comeback. Also this really hasn't been this big of an issue until it was talked about during the presidential debates, before that it was just something you might talk about every once in a while but not to this degree. I'm willing to bet if this was never brought up last fall, we wouldn't even have this thread here. "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." -Obi Wan Kenobi

galion, since you think you are so smart then answer this question. What percentage of expenditure are field workers in the overall cost for a farm to produce the crop and get it to the customer? 1% 3% 5% 10% 20% 30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% 99% Pick one. I'm guessing you are a CNN watcher so 99% will be your answer. Very Fake News I can't quote you a number, but in most businesses labor is one of their biggest expenses. In mine it's #1 (even more than malpractice insurance).

Bottom line, for me, is I'm for following the law. I'm against making laws that make it hard for motivated, good, hard working people to to come to the land of opportunity and be successful. I've heard way more inspirational stories than criminal. I have a cousin who runs a landscaping company in southern Ohio. He employs immigrants (legal or not, I don't know). He mentioned, in passing, that he was moving. That weekend several whole families showed up, with food, and moved him. He didn't even ask. The older kids and wives even kept an eye on his young daughter. That's the kind of people we need more of to dilute the parasites our social democracy has created.

Where were the child labor people when I was working at 7 yo. Oh, right, those laws don't apply to children of the farm owner 😳. The first year I paid into social security was 1977. I was born in '70. No mercy from grandma in payroll.

People work for 1/2 that year around. It's called McDonalds. Of course people move on to better jobs. I'm 46 and I've worked one minimum wage job my whole life (starting at age 7). Every other job since then my pay has increased. Everyone proves themselves, educates themselves, moves up in pay and responsibilities. Why do you use references when you apply to the next job? Because you're moving on to a lower paying job that's easier? 30K ain't too shabby especially if you make it in 7-9 months. I promise you he didn't take the winter off.

Imagine if your local school district put an announcement in the paper saying: "We have good news for the local taxpayers. We are currently hiring all new teachers at the rate of $9.00 per hour. They are all certified teachers in their home countries. Because of our budget problems, the state of Ohio has issued a waiver that allows us to employ these teachers while they work to obtain state certification and legal status. The INS has agreed to not deport these teachers as long as they don't commit any serious crimes. This is a needed solution to our budget woes as we have found that Americans aren't willing to do the hard work of teaching unless we pay them upwards of $20.00 per hour. Some teachers are currently making over $30.00 per hour with generous benefits. We don't want the cost of education to squeeze middle class families any more than we want them squeezed by the cost of radishes and cucumbers. This "good government" solution is spreading. It is projected that by 2019 more than 80% of public school teachers in Ohio will be foreign nationals. We also expect local governments to go this route with police, firefighters and garbage collectors. We would like to thank the local farmers and Cedar Point for suggesting this cost effective measure that will save the taxpayers millions of dollars. We urge parents and students to welcome these new, hardworking public servants. In other business the board passed a resolution approving the use of the gym and field house as temporary housing for any public employee making less than $9.50 per hour. Those locations will be cleared for student activity between the hours of 7am - 9pm weekdays and 10am - midnight on Friday & Saturday. That's a scary thought. The only problem I have with that argument is nobody is lining up for these farm jobs. They're too hard for most. That is better pay than most starting factory jobs around here (if you are unskilled). You're looking at $12-14/hr to start. I grew up on a farm. We grew hand harvested veggies. We payed piecemeal. We had school teachers that would work summers for us because it you're good and work hard you can make a lot of money. Those days are gone. Too many people are unwilling to work that hard and consider the work beneath them. You can't pay hourly or they'll do the bare minimum. I'd bet if you doubled the rate you'd still struggle to get people locally to do the work.

Illegal vs legal. Law of the land. Sorry some of you can't see it. If I drive without a license and get pulled over and come to find out I have not had a license for 16 years and my excuse is "well, I have to drive to work to support my family". What do you think is going to happen to me? Im going to get a fine and told if I am caught again, I will probably go to jail for some time. The guy in the article has been here for way to long not to pursue citizenship. If he cared about his family so much, that would have been a priority. I agree. He should have started the process a long time ago, but not an apples to apples comparison. You getting a drivers license is one trip to the BMV and $40-50 (whatever the current tax is). His process involves a lot more steps, cost, and a risk of deportation. We'd all like this discussion to be black and white, but the reality is there are shades of gray (like most things in life).

Here are the steps to becoming a naturalized American. Obtain a green card. ... Maintain a physical presence. ... Complete the USCIS form N-400. ... Be fingerprinted. ... Pass the interview and naturalization test. ... Attend the oath ceremony. No excuses. Easy to do. I'm all for following the law and I appreciate this summary, but this isn't the whole picture. What are the steps to getting a green card? Cost? Can it be done from a foreign country or do you have to come to the US to get one? Is there a waiting period? You get what I'm asking. Getting a green card sounds simple, but is it? Same questions for completing and submitting the N-400. I believe immigrants should come in legally. Have we made it nearly impossible? Anyone ever tried to get a car title transferred from one state to another? If all goes well it's two trips to the title agency and two to the BMV if you include getting plates. I did it once and it took two extra trips because mistakes on forms (Ohio is an "and" state not an "or" state - both my wife's name and mine were on the paperwork with an "or" between them) and my wife got to the title agency before 4:30, but I arrived at 4:34. There is a reason they are behind two inches of bullet proof glass. I struggled and I speak the language. There are plenty of people on this site who are unhappy with our bureaucracy when it affects them, but are quick to expect immigrants to navigate it. What we should be more outraged about is teet sucking Americans that won't take an $18/hour job while collecting a check paid for by my taxes. Who would you rather have in the country? A hard working pull himself up by the bootstraps immigrant or a third generation welfare drawing heroin addict?

Can someone educate us on what it would take for someone from Central America to work the summer in Willard legally? Is there paperwork to fill out? If all the paperwork is completed correctly what are the chances an individual would be told no?

I'm not sure what you mean but all I did was provide what I remember the schedule looked like for next year. There was question as to who exactly was on the schedule so I posted who was on it. I never said anything about wins or losses. Hopefully everyone else that reads that post is able to comprehend it better than tommygunn did. It's either a reading comprehension thing or an alterior agenda thing. Either way you can't win Everyone is talking about how the league shakeup is going to make the new coach look good no matter what. That schedule isn't a whole lot easier. Easier...but not a whole lot.

Does an athlete that moves into a District after 7th grade or 9th grade count in CB? Now that there is CB does an Open Enrollment athlete after the start of 9th grade still have to sit out half of the season of sports played at the prior District? An athlete that transfers after enrolling in the 9th grade sits. Before that no. I'm not sure about who all counts in the CB formula.

Well I just looked it up, Watterson's star player on that team the only one that earned All-Ohio Honors went to D-3 Otterbein to play basketball. I saw that game. Norwalk was better at 1-2. Watterson was better 3-7. They didn't fall off much as they moved down the squad. That's not an insult to Norwalk's 3-7. They did their job, but IMO Watterson's third best was a little better than Norwalk's three and so forth. Norwalk's one and two were just much better than Watterson's.

I thought Kennadie Goth of Shelby was going to Kent State on a softball scholarship. The Mansfield NJ had her running track. What gives? She (and Maddi Fidler) will be 16 varsity letter winners when they graduate. They both double letter in the spring. They run in track meets when they don't conflict with softball. Kennadie has gone to Columbus, I think twice, in long jump.

His suggestion was the "the best six." Since you'd have to get rid of some regular season games in order to have a tournament and you wouldn't know who the best six were going to be, it would have to include everyone.

regardless of division, the Tigers are the class of the SBC. They would win the Lake, Bay, and River divisions. Now here is a good idea- They should take the top two schools from each of the three divisions and play a mini-tournament at the end of the year to crown THE SBC champion. One of you S.O.B's with some pull should make a phone call and make that happen. Tell em "Dump" sent ya. GO Tigers OHSAA only allows 22 games plus OHSAA tournament. Couldn't happen. Plus top two would be six teams. Unless you use a bye for two teams tournaments have to be 4-8-16-etc.

So the solution to decreasing attendance is increasing ticket prices and sponsorship. You do realize there is a roof to that tactic. It's not the NCAA or the NBA. People aren't going to pay much more for tickets and there is only so much room for banners. Plus sponsors are going to be less interested when the turnout is down.
All I'm asking is that if you request tickets from the OHSAA that they offer you something better than 300's which is the order form they send you when you call.

A high school coach has no time or business teaching kids to use their off hand, box out, set or come off a screen, play help side defense. Individual skills should be taught from the eighth grade down. High school coaches should be teaching and implementing team concepts, putting in offenses and defenses, and strategizing for specific opponents. If you want to win the varsity coach needs to dictate these facts all the way down. Where I grew up youth bball was like little league. You signed up, showed up, went through some skills in front of coaches, and then they picked teams. Sophomore through senior year we went regional final, regional final, state semi-final. You Willard guys might remember us roughing you up a little in the early 80's. Watch a team warm up. When varsity kids are shooting layups from the left side over the front of the rim with their right hand that team will lose most of the time. It's not rocket science, but someone has to implement the program and set the tone. And it's going to take a couple of years because some kids are going to have to work their way up the system.
