Gentlemen and Ladies, I need your help. I have on my cell phone Norwalk's new helmet design but I do not know how to bring it from there to our Forum so you all can see it. right now I will try to describe it to you. the background paint is navy blue. It has a very wide yellow stripe that is suppose to be gold. On the sides it spells out NORWALK on it like the ones New York Giants. In that big yellow stripe up front is a front end of a semi truck with mean eyes for windows. To me that design looks UGLY, but I guess that's what they call the new revolution style. Give me the old designs anytime. I hope one of you can help me get it on here for you all to see.

Let's try this again. I was just about finish with the last one and she disappear on me. Anyway, I live in Norwalk and we usually have about 50 kids come out for 5th grade football after that they do slowly drop out and when they reach their senior year there is usually 13 - 20 kids still playing. For the 8 - 10 years we been really lucky at keeping the numbers high for football. I admit that it does happen even to us but I know we don't turn anybody away and I really don't know any high school in Ohio turns anybody away, both public and private. To me I think that defeats the purpose of always teaching the kids and I think football and all other sports is a tool to teaching. What school district do you live in if I may ask. I live in Perkins school district, but my children will be going to a different school in the fall. I coached 5th and 6th for Perkins in 2012&2013, so I believe we have met. I know the chances of keeping 50 kids from fifth grade all the way through high school is slim to none, but keeping 20 would be nice. D-4 Bellevue had 80 kids on their roster last year and 88 in 2016, I would love to see that at every school. I agree that no one should be turning kids away, but most area programs are seeing a numbers decline. I know it usually fluctuates and eventually rebounds, but it just doesn’t seem to be rebounding in some schools. It’s probably a combination of many things, just wish more kids would see the benefit of playing versus sitting on their rears. Heavy, you sure have that right. I have seen where a school that had a very successful program then the coach either leaves for another school or retires the program starts to decline and the kids stop going out for football. But sometimes when they get a coach that starts winning the program picks up. Monroeville is a good example. Perkins is another school that had a lot of kids on the team when they was winning but now I'm mot sure on this but it looks like only half of what they used to be. I know that my boys when they went out for anything they stayed with it till they graduate. I know they got a lot out of it for sticking it out because it was showing them about commitment. Maybe parents are not teaching their kids the values of commitment these days and it's ashamed they don't. Maybe we have meant and never realize it at the time. Are you gonna send your kids to St. Mary's or Huron. Either one are very good schools.

DFA, please stop. You coached 5th and 6th grade football at Norwalk, where the coach doesn't turn anybody away. And it's a youth camp, with the varsity players running the stations. They aren't installing anything. At the rate football numbers are dropping, most varsity programs aren’t turning anybody away. Don’t know what district you live in, but my son’s 5th grade class had about 50 kids. That dwindled down to around 10 by his Jr. year, and the sophomore class at 5 or 6 kids. Let's try this again. I was just about finish with the last one and she disappear on me. Bighoss, It is very commutated trying to figure out on how to make everybody happy with what region they should be in. I tried to rearrange it but no matter where I moved some counties there is always the Northwest and Southeast that will always have to make long drives. Thanks for your impute anyway. You did bring up something that could be maybe used either next year or two.

what I did was make all the Allen County schools in the same region. And in fixing that one problem you created other problems elsewhere. Someone looking at the setup you made for D6 would might say "What idiot gerrymandered this thing? Why the hell are Crawford and Ashland Counties sent all the way to SE Ohio while Richland County right between them stays in the NW Ohio region?" My point here is that no matter where you draw these lines there's going to be someone upset about some aspect of it. All I did was take a screenshot of the original map and draw some red and white lines on it in MS Paint
Bighoss, I don't know about D-3, it sure looks a mess to me. The map that I saw on OHSAA had Lorain and Cuyahoga counties in our region. If that's the case then if a Cleveland school maybe have to play a game at, let's say, Defiance than the crowd on the visitors side would look mighty bare. The Cleveland fans would not want to travel that far just for a playoff game. What's your opinion on this. What else do you want them to do? there simply aren't enough D3 schools in NW Ohio to have region that's only NW Ohio schools. They have to add in some extra schools from somewhere, whether it be from the Cleveland, Columbus or Dayton areas. No matter what they do it'll involve having some schools potentially drive a long way. I guess that what happens when you have 7 divisions just so you can please everybody into getting in the playoffs. Let's just go back to maybe 4 divisions and let everybody in the playoffs. I don't have any ideas to maybe make it more simple. Let's hear it everybody, give us your ideal on how this could be remedied this here. There will be no wrong answers here, just curious minds.

Galion, Thanks for the load down. That's all Norwalk needs for their first game with a new coach. A loaded Mansfield team. I think though that this should be a very good game if Norwalk can contain Mansfield's speed, if not then it's going to be a long night with lot's of scoring even with a running clock. A lot of it depends on if Norwalk can stay healthy during 2 a days. The junior class is very good and with the new coach I think we will have some players coming back out for football again. How is Galion looking this year? I hear that in the MOAL that it's going be a battle between Pleasant and Marion Harding for the conference. Any truth to that at all. Perkins held Mann to like 6 yards rushing and Mansfield to 11 points in the first half. The 2nd half, well that’s another story. They adjust well at halftime, if Norwalk’s coaching staff can prepare the team to make the necessary adjustments on the fly, and contain the speedsters they stand a chance. Heavy, Thanks for the impute. I hope that you are right on that, it's going be interesting season. I really don't know our new coach that well except from what I read in the newspapers when Calvert was playing St. Paul's. If I can find a schedule on our scrimmages and where they are playing maybe I can get to a few of them and see how they are doing.

Sports, I notice after I got on last night that my helmet was gone. Went to avatar to get back on but it, along with other stuff was not there anymore. I wonder what happen to all of it? Anyway I started to mess around on it last night and found out on how to make my own so that is how this one came about. You like it, first as background I chose the grave yard because it reminded me as a kid we used to play ghost in the grave yard at the cemetery at night. secondly I choose the maroon beret for my 82nd. airborne days. third, I am old now so I made myself as an old man with white hair, droopy jaws and always looking mean never smiling. Hoping I don't lose this one now.

Are you from Norwalk. I don't think you are so you don't know how it is run up here. First off, the varsity players do run the stations. The asst.coaches run them. The players help out. Secondly, if you have notice I have also said that I have coached at St. Paul's to. Third if you want to meet me somewhere, I will bring my two sons with me and they would tell you that they did run some plays at camp. One played for St. Paul's and was on that championship team his senior year and the youngest played for Norwalk and both helped out in the camps and they would tell you they did installed some plays on offence and defense at the end of the days. Yes I coached 5th. and 6th. grade but I did coach and tell me did you. For the love of God dude it’s spelled offense SORRY

I would rather wait to make my prediction until I know who has whom coming back or any move-in's. What does Mansfield Sr. look like this year. They play Norwalk first game @ Norwalk. We have a new coach in Toad Fox who was the head coach at Tiffin Calvert. We have a 4th.- 8th. grade camp this Wednesday - Friday. I am going down to it to see what kind of offence and defense he runs and meet our new coach. Senior is freaking loaded. This might be a running clock game at the half. He won't be installing anything at a youth camp, they'll be doing basic stuff and trying to get kids excited about the football program. 24278, Since I used to coach football I know even at a youth camp the coaches always will set up their style of defense so the kids can get comfortable on what they are teaching them. The same can be said about the offence, they use the same plays, the way they want them to block on certain plays, how they want them to set up rather it's a spread, pro, or what ever. I don't know where you are from but I do know that is how St. Paul's run their camp and has been for years. And we all know about St. Paul's football. They run the same plays and the same defense from 5th. grade on up and just about every year they are in the playoffs. I coach at St. Paul's for 7 years than at Norwalk.

Sorry the players are way better now. We have a 6’8 250lbs with guard skills. A 7’ with guard skills. A 7’3 that’s a stretch 4. The days of 2 post players posting up on each block are over. Big Hoss. I agree with you on that the vast majored of the players are better now but I have to agree with Sportsjock that the way the game is being played now is bad for the sport. To me it looks like they cannot play defense. Also the players just run up and down the court. In my days we would have one player running down the whole court another would only go to have court while three players would crash the boards get the rebound throw to have court and the other guy would throw to the other guy whose the only one streaking down there. If you are on offence you would only have one running back on defense while four of you would crash the boards. And I have yet not heard a guy yelling PICK to warn your player about it. To me it also seems that no one is stressing the importance of making your FREE Throws. I'm not saying you are wrong and right, no far from it. I know you have your opinion and I have mine, and this is how I feel about the way the pro's play it compare to the college and high schools play it. Thanks for listening Hoss.

Cbus, The one key difference between college & the pro's is in college they can throw in a zone defense and the pro's can't. Throwing different defense's makes you think on what kind of an offence play you are going to go with to break that defense. There are different kinds of defensive you can throw in. It could be a 2-1-2, 1-2-2, or a 1-3-1 or whatever. It makes you think instead of running up and down the court and just throwing the ball up. Some times I feel like they should throw out the 3pt. line. Since that was installed every body wants to shoot 3's. Get rid of it and go back to the old fashion way of making a 3 point play. Players now don't even know how to shoot from the foul line. Some of them are lucky to even get close to 50% from the line let alone make more than 50%. Lately I been seeing pro's missing the rim of the basket like 5th. or 6th. graders do. Air Ball. How embarrassing. I just hope colleges and high schools remain the same and not ruin the game.

I’m not sure there is a good option out there. Where ever he goes they won’t be better than the Warriors. The only way he can play in Houston would be a sign and trade. If I’m Gilbert i say thanks but no thanks because they would still be in the luxury tax I would think any pro-athlete would be attracted to a state with no state income tax.....i.e. Florida, Nevada, Texas, Washington. Tennessee technically has a state income tax, taxing dividends. Sports, I'm with you on not crossing the street for Pro Basketball. I have never seen such violations of the rules more than the pro's. Traveling for instance, if I remember correctly the rules said, or something like this, going for a layup you cannot take no more than 2 steps. It also use to be if you touch the body going to block a shot it was called a foul. Now it depends on who are then the ref's will let you get away with. I caught the last 4 minutes of the first game in the championship series they did not call a foul on Curry because they said he got the ball even though he bumped the shooter but later they called a foul on LeBron for bumping into Curry even though he blocked the ball. Even though the ref's do make bad calls in High School and College, they try their best to keep the game like it was meant to be played. In the pro's I have seen a lot of players going for a layup taking more than 3 steps and not get called for traveling. I like the way basketball was suppose to be played not like the way they play it today.

You might be right on that. I guess I forgot that Ohio State didn't win the conference two years ago. Was that the year Wisconsin beat them. Also Thank You for your opinion on this. Penn St beat them. Don’t even remember the last time Wisconsin eat the Thanks again. I completely forgot that Penn State went to the Rose Bowl as the Big10 champ. I do know that I ran out of fingers and toes to count on when the last time my Michigan team went to the Rose Bowl.

Hoss, Do you think that the powers to be might wise up after the mess that was created last year. You had UCF go undefeated, and the only D-1 team that was, and you had Ohio State who had a tougher schedule than Alabama and both of these schools was not invited to the show. Shoot, bama didn't even win their conference and they still were invited. Ohio State didn’t win their conference or division two years ago and were invited, so everything will stay the same. Committee sees it as Power 5 conference teams with the fewest losses. You might be right on that. I guess I forgot that Ohio State didn't win the conference two years ago. Was that the year Wisconsin beat them. Also Thank You for your opinion on this.

Sports, Doc is right on with that. As a kid traveling at night in the car with dad and that moon is full it was very scary like that story of the headless horseman. I always expected the rider come chasing us all the way into town. Framers loved that moon so they could get their crops in before the winter. Over there the framers take their framing seriously. They would be out in the fields all day and all night just to get their crops in and out. Those where the good old days that I really miss and my kids never had the privilege to experience, like staying the week or weekend at either my grandparents house or my Aunt & Uncles place. And when I stayed at my grandparents, I would go out back where the Nickle Plate Road hade a small interchange yard there on the old Cloverleaf Division and I watch the trains there. Since my grandfather retired from the Nickle Plate all the engineers and conductors knew grandpa and they would ask them if it was alright for me to come along with them and they would drop me off at my aunts place. Being 6 years old at the time and riding in either the engine or the caboose was really something. I even got to blow the whistle along the way and when they stop at New Bavaria I would get out and walk to the fence and get the gallon jug of moonshine for them. Kids can't do those stuff now anymore. Oh to be a kid again.

DFA - Owen went out in 11th place, cleared first height on first attempt, but then struggled a bit after and went out at 14'6" - after his school record performance of 15' last week. His goal was to make it to state - quite an accomplishment for a kid in only his 3rd year of the event! He worked hard and his efforts the last 3 years have paid off! Great kid and will be missed as he graduated last week. Jake placed 6th after clearing 14'10" on his third attempt. That is a new PR for him. Sure to see more from him in the future as he is just a sophomore! Sorry to hear about Owen. He deserve better but sometimes that's how the breaks go. He should still feel proud of what he has done this year and making it down to state and also owning a school record to boot. Now I'm glad that Jake made the podium with his 6th place finish. And you are right, we are going to see a lot from him in the future.

I lived on the edge of the remnants of the Great Black Swamp for 3 years in North Baltimore. That bike trail cuts through it. At night, even amongst the dark night, it stood out as pitch black. My apt opened right onto it. I remember my first year there I leashed up my pitbull and took him on a walk around 130 am on a late October night. It was so dark walking through the Swamp it was kind of terrifying. Spooky as heck. I will never forget it, we did about 6 miles in then the 6 miles out. The most pitch black I have ever seen outside of a cave. I know that area real well. That bike trail you was talking about, I remember the old Baltimore & Ohio Railroad using that line to take their trains from Willard to Toledo since Deshler did not have an interchange for west bound trains to go north to Toledo without having another engine waiting for them to take them north from behind the train and vice a versa.
