As an optimist, I believe there will be a football season this year. Who are some of the key players returning for each school that should contribute? For Pleasant, Austin Shaffer returns at QB. He will have some big bodies back in front of him as 6'4" 315 pounds Ethan Enders returns at center and 6'0" 255 pounds Cale Chase is back as well. CJ Smith will probably be the featured back and Kaden Ralston the best wideout returning.

I have learned from a very credible source that Highland’s BOE will be voting on this when they meet tomorrow night. One of the reasons was lack of JV sports in KMAC. Has anyone else heard anything about this? This was one of the reasons they were talking about it a year or two ago. Also, no varsity soccer programs in the league as well as few freshman games available in certain sports.

Never seen a Friday night road game and a Saturday noon start road game before. Gonna be some tired boys but that's the advantage of being young. It would kill me.

Looking forward to another year of the Sally George Invitational at Pleasant High School this weekend. Should be around 20 teams with a lot of good wrestling action. I will try to keep this page updated with scoring and placers from local schools.

I can see Pleasant doing a lot of pressing this year with a small line-up in the game. Starters will probably be Patrick Blubaugh, Austin Shaffer, Cole Ambrose and then depending on whether they go big or small you have Alex Joachim, Luke Thomas, Braxton Reed, Noah McGinness, Caleb Lichtenberger, or Kaden Ralston. While Pleasant doesn't have that dominant, take the game over player this year, there is little drop off when you go to the bench which would make a high pressure defense an ideal fit for this group.

Quick Note - The contact listed at the top of that release is Tim Stried who played quarterback for Pleasant in the 90's.

One of the most interesting teams that Pleasant played in the 1996 playoffs in the state semi's is Avon. At the time they were Division V and now they just won their region in Division II with a 10-0 record. They have really grown. Other playoff teams off the top of my head:
Coldwater St. Henry Versailles Arcanum Delphos St. John's West Jeffereson Reading Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy Summit Country Day Bishop Fenwick Fairbanks Columbus Academy Amanda Clearcreek Ridgedale Liberty Center Woodmore Woodfield Monroe East Knox Youngstown Mooney Eastwood Oak Harbor Genoa Area Ottawa-Glandorf Archbold Lehman Catholic Bedford St. Peter Chanel Smithville West Liberty Salem Mohawk Tuscarawus Valley - 1972 Lorain Clearview - 1972 Otsego - 1985 Bloomdale Elmwood

A generous Ontario supporter is picking up the tab for admission for everyone attending this game so come out and support your team!! This game is sandwiched between two big ones for Pleasant so the Spartans need to watch out for a let down.

Just a little more on this rivalry. The all-time series was virtually even until the early 90's. River Valley beat Pleasant in 1994 and then proceeded to not win again until 2012. A 17 game win streak by the Spartans really took some of the starch out of the rivalry but Doug Green has helped RV get their program turned around and I expect a hard fought game this week.

Blubaugh, who is their best DB and played the first 3 games on defense, did not play D except for a play or two when a player got hurt. I understand he is the focal point on offense but he has played both sides of the ball since he was in 4th grade so it is nothing new. You also have a 6'4", 310# lineman who could have helped stop some of those inside runs that were killing Pleasant last week. Finally, their QB Schaffer has not played D all year but is a very capable defender. I get that most coaches do not want their QB playing defense but I think there are certain situations when it is all hands on deck like last week. With Shelby, Clear Fork and Galion still on the schedule, losing to Harding was not an option if you want a decent chance at making the playoffs.

Pleasant has decided not to play several of their best players on defense to lower their possibility of getting hurt/worn out. It killed them against Harding and if they do it this week, Shelby will beat them bad! If they put their best athletes on the field instead of worrying about what might happen, this could be a close game. However, after watching what they have done with their talent the last few years, I have no confidence that this will happen.
