Normally, I think of the defenses being ahead of the offenses at this time of year but that was not the case last night in the Pleasant/Wynford scrimmage. Some of that was probably because they were running 10 plays to score from 60 yards out and there would have been some stops as the offenses did not always get 10 yards in 4 plays but you could still see some defensive confusion on both teams. That said, Pleasant looked pretty good on offense. Line has good size and it looks like they may throw the ball a little this year.

Pleasant's seventh grade is just full of athletes. Don't know how that will translate to the football field but I know they will be solid at basketball.

I hear that former Pleasant head coach Chris Kubbs will be helping out at Mt. Gilead. If true, watch out for the Indians in the near future. That man can coach!!

I think the league is wide open this year. Pleasant, Shelby and Clear Fork all lost a lot but seem to just reload. Galion seems interesting to me as they have some talent returning but can they surround the talent with the other vital pieces that win games?

From Pleasant, Alex Enders signed with Toledo while Ethan Warner, Braden Stark and Bryce Lowry all signed on to play at Otterbein.

One note about the records that may be obvious to some but not others: these are records for the MOAC league meet only and not necessarily the fastest times put up by these runners.

Schwemeley went to high school at River Valley so that is probably where a big part of the interest lies.

Pleasant led by 5 late in the 3rd but Johnstown scored the last 4 points of the 3rd quarter and the first 8 points of the 4th to seal Pleasant's fate. Down 16-6 after the 1st and 20-8 early in the second, the Spartans finally woke up and played fast and furious to cut the lead to 27-25 at the half and then build the 5 point lead in the 3rd. It must of taken it all out of them as the great cuts and pick and rolls of the 2nd and 3rd were replaced by passing the ball around the perimeter and settling for long 3 point attempts in the 4th. Refs really let them play all game. I doubt anyone would have fouled out even if they played another 4 quarters.

I heard over the weekend that Barry Eagen is out at River Valley and Schwemeley is the number one candidate.

Only 2 records were broken last year and they were both on the girls side. Abbe Davis of North Union broke her previous records in the 100 and 200 by going 12.27 in the 100 and 25.24 in the 200. Other than that, the record listings that are dated from 2017 are correct.

Pleasant jumped on Buckeye Valley early, leading 19-3 after the first quarter and never looked back winning 64-43 to close out the regular season. Tournament starts Monday night for the Spartans.

Don't sleep on the KIPP team. Next year will be there first year as an OHSAA team after being on probation the last 2 years. However, they are growing like crazy and already have over 2000 students in the school system as a whole. With all of the money that Wexner is putting into that school, you know they are going to have top of the line equipment and facilities within a few years. They will also be Division VII or VI for only a few years as the younger kids enrolled get to high school. Very interesting concept.

Pleasant loses a ton of talent off of the 2018 team including 8 out of 11 starters on offense and 9 or 10 starters on defense. They will be down next year. It will be interesting to see if Dave Carroll returns as the Head Coach at CF next year as he is retiring from teaching. They may work something out though as I think he still wants to coach.

A quick question to the folks on this site: I have noticed this over the course of time and maybe it has just my view point but do the officials in the Northwest District seem to let more contact go than the officials in the Central District? I have seen quite a few basketball and soccer games where contact takes place that in the Central District is a foul but in the Northwest District is not called. I am not complaining about bad officiating because they call it the same way for both teams. It just seems like you can get away with a lot more contact in games officiated by crews from the Northwest then you can from crews in the Central. Now that folks from Ontario, Galion and Clear Fork are playing some of their games with Central District refs, have you noticed a difference in more fouls being called at away games?

Pleasant 62 River Valley 53
RV came out hot and led by 4 after one and 2 at the half. Pleasant adjusted at halftime and led by 13 after 3 and RV never got within 9 the rest of the way. RV has some quick guards and can shoot if you don't get up in their face. One player from Pleasant who will not show up big in the stat lines but had a great game last night is Braden Stark. He was able to body up on Kenney from RV and really caused him problems in trying to get to the hoop.

Pleasant looked pretty good in their 3 way scrimmage with Lima Perry and West Jeff last Saturday. They are vertically challenged this year but they can all shoot the three and drive and finish at the hoop.

Homecoming this Friday night for Pleasant. I have noticed in high school football that the home team usually starts a little slow because of all of the pregame festivities. If that is the case Friday night, Pleasant could be in for a real battle.
