I talked to a man and his wife who were in their late 60's/early 70's at the Clear Fork/Pleasant football game this fall who thought it was ridiculous that they changed conferences and said that a football title didn't mean anything because they couldn't do it in the OCC. I was shocked. I said so what you are telling me is that because Clear Fork played and beat teams closer to their own size instead of schools much bigger then them it doesn't mean as much. Give me a break. CF isn't going back to the OCC. Period. It was silly to be in that conference in the first place. At some point in time they may bolt from the MOAC for a conference that is closer to home but it should be one where they have like sized schools. No matter what the older "fans" say, high school sports is about the kids and allowing them to compete on an even playing field so they can enjoy their experience. Going up against schools twice your size is not an even playing field.

They already are playing schools closer to their size. RV is already the 3rd or 4th largest school in the conference. Although Pleasant is smaller, the N10 outside of d4 Upper and D5 Bucyrus is all D6 and 7. That's not closer to their size. Especially if you are going to have to essentially schedule as an independent for some of your sports. The difference is BV harding are 2x the size of pleasant. I still say its a bad idea. Harding 379 (2.47x) 226 more boys BV 308 (2.01x) 155 more RV 236 (1.54x) 83 more Shelby 228 (1.49x) 75 more Ontario 222 (1.45x) 69 more CF 181 (1.18x) 28 more Galion 163 (1.06x) 10 more NU 163 (1.06x) 10 more Pleasant 153 AVE 82 boys less Upper 214 (1.40x) 61 more Bucryus 134 (-1.14x) 19 less Carey 133 (-1.15x) 20 less Seneca E 117 (-1.31x) 36 less Mohawk 104 (-1.47x) 49 less CC 103 (-1.48x) 50 less Wynford 100 (-1.53x) 53 less BC 82 (-1.86x) 71 less Is all about #s. Not saying its right, but saying they are playing their own size is not really true. That said 2 of the top three they have played for years (some of that was in cross over games in the old Red and Blue MOAC days). The numbers you have posted here are correct to a point but these are only grades 9-11 (which is what the OHSAA uses to classify schools) In reality, there is one more class of boys in each school. The actual numbers for each school are closer to: Harding - 505 - 301 more boys BV - 411 - 207 more boys RV - 315 - 111 more boys Shelby - 304 - 100 more boys Ontario - 296 - 92 more boys Clear Fork - 241 - 37 more boys Galion - 217 - 13 more boys Pleasant - 204 Obviously, these numbers include kids that go to tech schools and the larger schools probably have more kids that do that. Just wanted to include all four classes into the mix for a true look at the differences.

Watched the Harding-Pleasant game last night. Harding plays some pretty good D which should keep them in most games this year. Their problem last night was it didn't look like anyone other than #11 or #5 wanted to put the ball up until the 4th quarter when they were trying to rally. Pleasant has good balance in their scoring - no superstars that you need to double but also no one you can take your eye off. I liked their defensive effort as well. I also liked that they played 9 or 10 guys throughout the game and kept guys fresh. That said, even as a Pleasant fan, I thought the Spartans got away with some definite fouls and the Prexies did not. I would agree with 4 that the officials were a little harsh with Harding. Not that their players didn't earn the fouls they were given but that Pleasant should have had more fouls called on them then they did.

Pleasant pulls out an amazing win. Down 24 -21 with 30 seconds left and 99 yards away from the end zone, Pleasant hits a pass for 92 yards. One play later, Warner hits Conklin in the end zone and the Spartans pull out a 28 - 24 win.

www.northcentralohio.com/sports/single.asp?story=74180 ONTARIO, OH- After only two seasons at Ontario, head football coach Chris Hawkins has resigned his position for personal reasons. Hawkins is his two seasons went 4-6 in 2016 and 2-8 this season. Prior to that Hawkins coached at his alma mater Wynford where he compiled a record of 41-10 coaching five years. From there he moved on to Willard for five seasons coaching the Flashes to a record of 41-25. In 2007, he took over at Galion where he went 53-31, taking the Tigers to the playoffs five times. The 21-year head coach came to Ontario with an overall record of 143-69, with one 10-0 season at Galion in 2009. This past year's squad suffered a number of injuries including the loss of starting quarterback Cam Todd to a season-ending injury at about the midpoint of the season. The search for a new head coach at Ontario is already underway.

You are right hardingmavman, it can be crazy. Because of our location, I know teams like Pleasant, Elgin, North Union, etc. have been in the SE, SW and NW Ohio regions over the years. Central Ohio seems to be filler teams for the 4 regions. Just look at Division 1 this year. Region 2 has Findlay, Toledo, Lorain, Medina and schools from Olentangy, Dublin, Westerville and Worthington while Region 3 has the rest of the Columbus suburban schools down to Lancaster and then over to Springfield and Dayton area. Dublin and Hilliard in 2 different regions? Crazy. It makes a lot more sense to move one of the southern Columbus schools into Region 8 and have Harding in Region 7 with Massillon, Ashland and the other Columbus schools bubt who ever said the OHSAA was sensible.

The BV coaches were responsible for the final touchdown. QB had just taken a massive hit and didn't really know where he was, very wobbly on his feet. Had him throw the ball on the next play....pick six. It was already pretty much over at that point but the kid could barely make it off the field without help.

Back to the thread's topic,it looks like BV has a pretty balanced offense with their QB 2nd in the league in passing yards. I know Davies runs the ball almost exclusively for them (about twice as many carries as the next highest rusher in the league). Do they have a decent defense this year? They do have some impressive wins so I look for this to be a heck of a game tonight.

All B.S. aside with fans, I was happy to see both the Pleasant and Harding players offering to help each other up after many of the plays. That is what truly counts and I thought both teams acted like sportsman on the field.

Pleasant beat Highland last night in their scrimmage. Varsity played the first half and won 14-7. Second half was all JV and Freshman with Pleasant winning 14-8. Still some work to do to get to where we need to be but not a bad showing.

So does Pleasant, so I have no idea what Eagles Nest is talking about when he says, "Marion Harding has random drug screens which might be the only school in the MOAC to do so." I think almost every school in the MOAC does....BV...RV...NU. Harding is not the only one to do so. I actually wonder which public school DOESN'T do drug testing.... I did use the word "might". The OHSAA nor the MOAC have any set guidelines to drug testing. But the conversation started with this "All players are drug tested pre-season and randomly throughout the year ". Id like to know what MOAC school does this? Pleasant has been drug testing ALL students who participate in extra school activities (sports, band, school play, etc.) and any kid who wants to drive to school for over 15 years. They also have random drug screening throughout the year to maintain those privileges. The students must pay for the test that covers everyone but the school picks up the tab on the random tests. So, now you know. Also, 4 mentioned nobody at Harding has been busted for drugs or alcohol in the last couple of years which is totally false. Last fall one of your better players showed up to Homecoming drunk. Instead of him missing any games, he got some in-school discipline. Everyone knew about it but we all watched *** it was swept under the rug.

BTW, I don't think that a lot of people at Pleasant and North Union have a problem with Harding's size. They also like the proximity of the school. The problem some people have with Harding is their lack of discipline for athletes caught doing things that would get them suspended or cut from other teams. If they want to be accepted long term, they need to play by the same rules as other schools. All players are drug tested pre-season and randomly throughout the year. If caught drinking or with drugs, it is a mandatory suspension for 50% of games that season. There is no "I'm afraid if we do that we will lose this kid to a life of crime or drugs or whatever". The rules are there and are implemented the same for flute player in the band as they are for the starting QB. No exceptions for "a bad home life". If you choose to become a part of a team and you let your teammates down by doing drugs or committing a crime, then you need to pay the piper. Several kids from RV found what that was like last year and many kids from Pleasant have felt that sting over the years.
The point is that many people don't have a problem with Harding's numbers. It is their lack of solid disciplinary policies that make it seem like Harding is not playing with the same set of rules as other schools.
