I’m already begining to enjoy the Big Red perspective on this game. Shelby’s lines aren’t big/physical enough. Won’t be able to stop the pass rush. Too much speed for Shelby to handle. Clinton-Massie will be a more respectable challenge. Not so much that it’s disrespectful, but dismissive. I like the Whippets chances. I’m sure plenty of bulletin-board material is created this week.
By the way, much respect to Bellevue. What an amazingly consistent and tough program! So glad it came down to old NOL rivals. My Mom reminded me of an 8-6 last-second Bellevue win for the title some 55 years ago when she was in high school.

I heard it was getting chippy between fans on that early holding call. Any truth to that? I hope not. Shelby fans on the home side?

Shelby doesn't win with class? This photo after the St. Mary's game begs to differ.

I think they're making a grave error in underestimating the attendance (from both sides) in this game. And that's including the temporary seats that they'll inevitable have to pull in. I know a number of folks who are already emailing the OHSAA to voice their issues with the site selection. Of course this will accomplish nothing, but speaks to the number already planning to attend. I think the visitor side at current accommodates roughly 1,000, while the home side fits the other roughly 3,500. Yikes. This is looking to be a clown show.

From spying some of the other forums out there, you would surmise it's already a foregone conclusion that St. Mary's is going to roll right through Shelby. "Shelby hasn't seen the Wing-T power run game like this yet." "St. Mary's has already stomped their share of spread teams this year." "Shelby plays in a weak conference." "Doug Frye will find a way to outcoach the Whippets." "St. Mary's will score 35+ in this one." Of course these aren't verbatim quotes, but the general idea. I get it. Homers will support their squad. Just found it interesting to see what people around NW Ohio and the State think for this one. Is that on the Rocket site? No, this was on Yappi.

Um, you’re incorrect. Watkins Memorial is a public school in Pataskala, on the outskirts of Columbus, OH. Memorial is the name of the high school. Some of us do know the difference.

He’s also had strong interest in Iowa State, following Matt Campbell from Toledo - who offered him, Rutgers (Chris Ash), Virginia, North Carolina & Cincinnati (although he’s stated wanting to play in a top-tier conference). I think both Campbell & Fleck will continue to be mentioned for bigger gigs, which could impact his decision. His play against the bigger boys down the road this month could garner some more eyeballs & offers. He’s also a D1 talent on defense, which is often not mentioned. Some of his hits/TFL last night were ridiculous!

I see that Brennan Armstrong reopened his recruitment this week. Strong chance he still ends up at Minnesota, but interesting nonetheless.

There is no 'halo rule' in High School. One of the differences between HS and College/Pro. Much the same as there is no such thing as an 'uncatchable pass' in HS. To your point, they only call out that the kick catcher/receiver must be given an "unhindered opportunity" to make the catch. They also threw in a new rule to address risk minimization whereby a "kickoff or punt returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier" will be considered a defenseless player. In this way, I'm sure there will continue to be a large number of 'bang-bang' plays where the call will have to be made (or not made) objectively. And of course, depending upon which side of the field you're on, you'll love or hate the call.
