more freshman could be on the team but out of greed they wanted to have 3 teams...so rather than have a good team at one level we have 3 losing teams...these kids and parents were lied to because they were told the freshman team would not be split up. You've said some REALLY silly things on this thread, but with this one you have lost ALL credibility. You are missing the point. The idea to keep a group of kids together that have tremendous chemistry is something that is hard to do becauae you want to take a couple players you think will help you win now and move them up. The problem is they are not helping that varsity team win so why not keep the juniors on the varsity and play a majority of the freshman at freshman and possibly let a few play a few quarters of jv. splitting them all up weakened the freshman all together.

I'm not gonna agree with you that building decisions need to be based on Revenue streams at a public HS. The situation you are describing works at a "for profit business" that is looking to generate cash flow. WHS is not that type of situation at all. They need to make decision that effect the kids, and all the kids whenever possible. Not just the athletes, and that's coming from a guy who played sports and did nothing within the PAC except watch occasionally. My kids were involved in both aspects. All that being said, I wanna see the Sports teams do well because I care a lot about them. But,,I don't wanna do that at the expense of kids who have zero athletic ability, but tons of ability that involves the PAC. There must be a reason why they want to put more into it, I'm sure it's a valid reason rather than appeasing one person who is "yelling the loudest". Generating revenue helps, a ton. The school made about $10,000 on the April Fools Tournament weekend alone, that is one tournament. Imagine the things that could be done to help the school if they were generating that kind of money.

Oh my goodness, as if this couldn’t get any dumber. Comparable to the best in Willard’s history? Come on man, I’m not even a Willard fan and know that’s laughable. So Willard is going to go from consecutive seasons of less than 5 wins to one of the best in Willard’s history? You’ve seriously gotta be just messing with us right? Like, you did that just to lighten things up right? For someone who's not even a willard fan you sure do spend most of your time following willard topics on here, you're as transparent as they come and your shtick is getting tiresome, why don't you just move along...certainly you have more important things to do, as most people with oversize opinions of themselves do (so they think) Don’t kid yourself, he is from Willard.

It doesn’t matter if you used the word “may”, to even insinuate it is laughable. I get it, you’re a parent and excited and saw some of these kids have success in junior high but there will probably be 20 Willard teams from the past that will be better than them. This thread just gets crazier and crazier. I don’t go out on a limb about stuff like this too often but i think they have all the pieces to be that good, speed, size, slashers, shooters, smothering defense.

I think its a fair statement, but I also agree with moneyball's statement regarding 2 years from now, willard may have a team comparable to some of the best teams in willard's history I have avoided commenting on this thread because it is an internal Willard thing however this one caught my eye... "I think its a fair statement, but I also agree with moneyball's statement regarding 2 years from now, willard may have a team comparable to some of the best teams in willard's history"WOW..... I will let Scarlet educate as needed of if necessary as once again this is a Willard thing... I’m going to have to agree with crimson on this one. You have 2 grades that are loaded with talent and decent players the year before them and the year behind them.

[ Just appears backwards to me since they already have a venue to use for this stuff. I’m not trying to shortchange the arts, saying they can’t flip flop when they have the resources to build a FH and the support, non-tax dollars at that, they should have already broken ground.

Define easier? If you are referring to playing schools with the same number of boys in high school verses playing teams with 25-30% more boys (old NOL teams), the playing field is now leveling for them. Define leveling for them? If you mean down grading their schedule to play and easier schedule than we are agreeing. If I said less challenging instead of easier would that be better for you? I was not trying to offend only stating the changes in their schedule SHOULD improve their record. I wouldn’t call it downgrading their schedule I would call it playing schools more their size.

Next year the flashes will be 500. But the next two years after that, hold on because they will be a force to be reckoned with. Would it be fair to say that Willard's record should improve because their schedule is getting easier? Define easier? Willard has at least 4 more pages of off the court discussion than they do wins. Most of them jr. high. Say this in Allen Iverson practice voice. Most of them jr. high. Hopefully 2018-19 is different. That's been said since 2007 Next year the flashes will be 500. But the next two years after that, hold on because they will be a force to be reckoned with.

This much I can tell you Moneyball, there are significant monies pledged for the field house project. Those are from the Hospital and other individuals in town. That commitment has not changed. It's still there. my personal guess is that it still happens. There are a few other projects that need to happen as well. A bus garage, a board office, and money for the arts and performance center. Where everything ends up being built and the order of those projects,,,,I have a feeling it's not yet determined. Those decisions are not up to me,,I support the Board and those who make those decisions on behalf of WHS. I also choose to look at everything that has been done in the last 3 years: The building of a Beautiful new School campus that is way more efficient in numerous ways. The 2 Gyms inside it are top shelf. ALong with the upgrades to the existing Haas gym. The Track and Field getting a beautiful facelift all around. The Baseball and Softball fields and Tennis Court project is completed and I believe the changes to upgrade those are done. The Football field is now a Turf field which is also beautiful and will be a great thing for our Football teams and Soccer teams. There's just a lot of good things that have been built and there's more to come. I'm not going to complain or question anything being built that improves an already impressive list of completed projects.,,or the order in which they happen. Hold on, I'm not saying there are not some good things that have happened over the last few years, that is evident but a majority of these things have been due to the taxpayers approving them and paying for them. What I'm saying is why does the PAC jump over the field house when it is obvious the field house would be used more, generate a ton of revenue for the school and help with getting our teams better (more revenue would be generated there too because better means bigger crowds). Lets not kid ourselves, this is a business and you have to generate income to survive, you of anyone should know that. I like how you see the positive in everything and I can appreciate it but take one project at a time and stop catering to those that yell the loudest on any given day, look at the economics. This town needs a FH before a PAC, IMO.

Field House is still in play. Patience boys. I think it still happens. The people who committed $$$ are still committed. This fact I know 100%, that you can take to the bank. Not sure what this means because how do we leapfrog a field house to getting a PAC on the ballot, makes no sense to me whatsoever? I think you are mistaken because the field house had legs way before the PAC discussion and nothing has been done to move the project forward. You can guarantee the support but if the school doesn’t release the funds nothing will get done and they are not planning on doing it.

speaking of school board...emergency levy for may to raise taxes for a PAC...what happened to the field house? anyone know ? Apparently the 4 performances a year outweighs a need for a field house where it could be used daily. The current cafetorium is good enough for the size of our town. This is crazy that someone is asking taxpayers to foot the bill for a good portion of this. The field house was going to use ZERO tax dollars to build. What was it that Rod Cok said in the paper about the field house "we need to move on this quickly", the wind must have changed.

Keeping 12 and playing 7 in a game can still get 12 developing in practice. Game time should be earned, practice time is given. If that is the case then the 7 should float at times. I would say 3-4 may be static but the 5-7 should float with the 8-10 based on their performance in practice. Even then, the 11-12 should find their way onto the court sometime during the season.

Good coaches are hard to come by, I'm sure. Not saying winning is everything starting in 7th grade, just saying that is where the winning expectation starts. It is obvious that kids fall off as they get older. Good example is year after year the number dwindles as kids get older. Last year we had two seniors and this year we have three. The bunch of 8-10 good players that are now 9th graders, we'll only see 4-5 of those kids playing as seniors, I'm sure. So in 7th grade right now, who are those 3-4 kids? Nobody knows. So winning games for them is less important as making them better, smarter, harder working players being the top priority. Not even going to go down that path because kids mature at different levels. Someone that may dominate in 7th now may not be playing by the time they hit their sophomore year. Someone that is so so now may turn out to be your superstar by the time they are a Junior. I agree with wyandot, development is key at this age and the hope is they get better as the year goes on. If you have 12 kids what is more important, winning or getting everyone playing time? If it is winning then only keep 8 players and if it is development and that is the head coaches direction then keep 12 and play them all at some point in every game. Problem is you keep 12, play 7 and you are still losing by double digits. If you keep 12 and play 12 you have an argument to stand on, you are more worried about the development of all players and not solely about winning.

I struggle with that. I think when they are interviewed it is like any other position you apply for, they have a boss and that boss is the head coach. They follow his/her lead and if they don't they have to answer to him/her. I think it would be so much more successful than people think, at least you are getting the best coach possible. I would rather have a good coach coaching 7-9 that is teaching the players the game of basketball the right way instead of a coach that doesn't fully understand the game of basketball and is just hoping for the season to get over. Whether we like it or not, winning is what it is about starting in 7th grade, I wish it were not but it is. Many of these kids have played 2-3-4 years of organized basketball before they hit 7th grade and when there are not competent coaches in place parents and players feel short changed. I'm not blaming the head coach here, it has been the policy to have the head coach pick his/her staff since the beginning of time, all I'm saying is it is time to look at it differently and possibly change the process of selecting the 7-9 grade coaches. It goes without saying that you need qualified coaches to be successful but the reality is they are not always available. Sometimes you do have to take an available person less qualified at a lower lever. People normally do not change jobs to be a Jr High coach. After seeing my kids go thru the process I would disagree with you slightly in regards to winning be what it is all about starting in 7th grade. The feeder levels are still about learning the game and how to play. JH success means nothing for varsity as the success can happy for different reasons(growth spurts, physical maturity, 1 or2 players) In many cases a good JH team can be a bust by the time they are seniors because they get separated on HS teams and kids/parents get attitudes and become bitter. Good coaches are hard to come by, I'm sure. Not saying winning is everything starting in 7th grade, just saying that is where the winning expectation starts. It is obvious that kids fall off as they get older. Good example is year after year the number dwindles as kids get older. Last year we had two seniors and this year we have three. obviously not working for Willard as their programs are in the toilet Once they get thru the players that the previous youth director messed up the program will begin to turn around. Good point but it was either that or upwards basketball for the youth here in Willard, pick your poison. I know some of the boys in 9th grade were the first wave of players that went through that program under the youth director so they're not all that bad, one of them is a starter on the varsity team. Someone posted about the youth director on FB today and it was a good post about the previous program, any program has its supporters and those that oppose it, you are obviously the latter. Me personally, I think the youth program should be under the school like it is today with a director that has a close relationship with the head coach. The head coach can't be tied down with managing it but it helps that they have their thumb on the pulse. I like the direction they are taking this program (my opinion doesn't matter but I'm giving it anyhow :-) but as I stated before, I think they need to work on interviewing for 7-9 grade coaches and let the best candidate earn the paid position.

I think that in itself is the problem, the head coach having the responsibility to hire these coaches. IMO, these coaching positions should be publicly posted and candidates submit their resume’ and the school board interviews them and does the hiring. This is way too much responsibility thrown on a head coaches shoulders, after all they are paid positions. This would allow the best candidate with the best qualifications to be hired. At least from the 7-9 grades should be handled like this. All lower level coaches are a part of the head coach's staff and need to work together within a programs progression. Remove the head coach from the selection process and a lower level coach's loyalty is no longer to the program but to himself and his record. This is not how good programs are run. I struggle with that. I think when they are interviewed it is like any other position you apply for, they have a boss and that boss is the head coach. They follow his/her lead and if they don't they have to answer to him/her. I think it would be so much more successful than people think, at least you are getting the best coach possible. I don’t know, man. I think a person that takes a coaching position that gets beat up like he has this year and last year, continues to do it, why? It can’t be for the love of the game, he never shows any emotion, like he is being forced to do it. I don’t know the guy but this 8th grade team was in every game last year a parent told me and this year, they are getting crushed by nearly everyone. Nick will get them next year and he is a good coach, lets hope some don’t lose interest before then. I'm not saying your coach is a bad coach, but in your opinion he is the one who hired an unqualified coach and put them in charge of developing players making a move from JH to HS. I think that in itself is the problem, the head coach having the responsibility to hire these coaches. Wyandot has a good point about guiding kids from the stands. I’ve never been a fan of that but when you have a coach that has no clue about the game of basketball, what else should you do? I see some of these 8th grade parents squirming and chirping especially when the boys are lost out there. That is 100% on your head coach. I don’t know, man. WTH does jack wagon mean? You constantly use it and I assume you think it shows your brilliance... jack wagon, still laughing abouth that one. You don't know what "jack wagon" is here? This forum automatically censors certain words and phrases. You're an idiot. Sentence one and sentence two here make NO sense together. Sentence one is just a circle going nowhere, apropos of nothing. Sentence two is not an argument, just you throwing a fit. Also, it really contradicts sentence one: can a lazy man be "wise?" I'm ignoring the fact that sentence two is kind of mess of jumbled idioms and a weak attempt at misspelled sarcasm. With this, I REALLY have a hard time believing everyone you've disagreed with on anything has never crossed the line from "blunt" or "in your face" to "you're not just stupid, you're an arsehole about it, as well." I've said all I need to say on this part of the board. Peace. Peace out, coach!

Interesting choice of words. I’ve been called outspoken and rational, in your face and blunt, but no one has ever said “ you just know so many things that aren’t so.” Are you the only smart, rational person on here, some might even call you the savant of the board, or perhaps the matrix? Have you really never met one person that made you wonder whether "in-your-face" and "blunt" weren't just polite euphemisms for "dull-witted" and "jack wagon," referring to you or not? Of course, you accuse me of insisting I'm the only voice of wisdom here on the boards - lazy, transparent fallacy on your part. I've taken my well-deserved licks here, if you'd paid attention. It's not the first time you've assumed wrong about me (read: "asst. coach"), either, so take a seat. People who know have spent 5 pages trying to educate a martyr-in-their-own-head that, it now appears, has not ears to hear or eyes to see, but is dead-set against a wealth of collective wisdom. Frankly, I hope whatever it is IS made a dirtstorm in the Reflector/Register. I could use laugh. WTH does jack wagon mean? You constantly use it and I assume you think it shows your brilliance. And as far as lazy goes, we know who is lazy. Your wisdom runneth over and everyone should get down on their needs old wise one. jack wagon, still laughing abouth that one.

goodness man, how can it be bad? that is what this country needs, someone to finally stand up to the system of abuse at taxpayers expense. he can’t be paid off. But Nancy Pelosi said this tax cut was 'Armageddon' and that there was no coming back from this. Or was she talking about the tax cut being 'Armageddon' for Democrats, and no coming back from it since 0 of them voted for the tax cut? CNN needs to cover this so that I know what to think. Instead of covering the $250 billion dollar news from Apple they were busy telling me about Trump's taste in Starburst candies. How these people continue to get voted in, unreal.

Money, I hope you are correct on the BB situation. The kid and the WHS team need each other I am guessing. CP would make an enormous difference if he was still here. Regarding RW, I was not aware of any inter coaching parents squabbles and I don't want to go there,,I'm strictly looking at the "what if" and I am pretty sure our VB team was State bound if she's playing at WHS instead of DC where she has been to State 3 years in a row at D1,,and she does in fact have a D1 scholarship to Hawaii for her college future plans. Good chance she will be a HS All American next year as a Senior at DC. I don't want to take this message board thread down the path that has been going on for weeks on end. That drama needs to stay on those threads if you guys want to keep discussing it. That's here say not really affecting everyone reading this Bay Division thread. The what ifs. We have some real athletes in MS and HS now if they all stay the course. Never know what motivates parents to leave the school. Good for Riley, she is a good kid too.

This is what needs to happen for Willard to succeed again. We need our 6'8 leading rebounder to stop quitting the team in the middle of the season, adding Jordon Moore to this scenario from the 2015 season as well. We need our very promising PG from Junior High to stop transferring to a Boarding school in Cleveland as a freshman. You might as well add in Riley Wagner on the girls side to that as well. She's a 1st Team All State athlete down at Dublin Coffman since moving after 6th grade Those situations happened for one reason or another, and their own personal choices. But when they do happen it cripples a small school when a talented athlete like that leaves and or quits. I'm hearing he may be back, possible contract or discussion over what he needs to do to continue to play. No one ever confirmed he quit, could have been a grade issue and if so it may take a week or so to get worked out. As far as cooper goes, it would have been nice for him to have stayed but he was never going to play for Long, that bridge was burnt and not sure his mother was willing to chance Chris getting another contract. Riley, I'll agree with that one, she is a dominating force and talk about taking it to the next level, she has. She is surrounded by excellent coaching and her mother knew she had talent but she wasn't going to play for Dawson in basketball, she wasn't one of his favorites even at the 6th grade level. Her volleyball career is where she will get the D1 scholarship from. There are plenty of other great kids and athletes leaving Willard too, need to find the root cause and try and stop the bleeding.

9th grade talent is spaced thin thru the ranks resulting in an avalanche of ‘L’s’ but not sure what else there is to do. I see 1 player good enough for varsity but numbers forcing Flashes hand. Would be cool if all in the system got along & all able bodies were playing, then the talent would stack up where they fit. However in 2018 not just in Willard either, playing hoops not the honor it once was I suppose. Hard for us 40 something’s to grasp. Growing pain year. Success is truly a team effort. Miss the days when a player would lead for the good of the team. You see glimpses of it here and there. Joe is a good coach but you are right, once the kids learn to sacrifice their highlight reel for the goodness of the team, they will succeed.

Vermilion loses at Elyria on a last second basket, 65-63. Sailors were down 14 with less than 4 minutes to go and roared back to tie it up before losing the ball with 8 seconds left on a bogus illegal screen offensive foul call. Tough loss against a tough team, but a good test and one to grow on. I'm sure there was some Willard-related drama involved too, but haven't figured out exactly what yet. Speaking of Willard, tough lose tonight against St Paul. These boys have to come together and play as a team. There are too many games left to toss in the towel. I know Joe is doing his best with such a young team, keep pushing Joe. This 9th grade group is loaded with height and the 8th is loaded with speed and shooters, its coming, stay the course.

Due to the tax cut recently passed Apple has decided to repatriate $250 billion dollars it was hiding overseas. They will play $39 billion in taxes to repatriate that money. Also due to the tax cuts Apple plans to open another campus, create 20,000 jobs, and invest $350 billion dollars over the next 5 years. Is Apple repatriating $250 billion good or bad? CNN isn't mentioning this so I don't know? goodness man, how can it be bad? that is what this country needs, someone to finally stand up to the system of abuse at taxpayers expense. he can’t be paid off.
