Man the Willard 8th grade looked good last night. Granted the competition wasn't that great, but they looked impressive. I think you guys are on to something with the thought being, press from the get go and push the ball up the floor in transition. Take advantage of the speed and athletic ability of probably 5-7 kids anyway on that team. At least at present, running offensive sets doesn't appear to be their strong suit. They are a transition team and play their best when they are running and playing swarming defense. When they have the fast kids on the floor, they can run with anyone, from what I have saw. They need to learn how to push the ball out to the player up the floor better, best way to beat the defense up the floor is not let the ball touch the floor, transition passing.

What in the hell is that supposed to be about, anyway? Oh, I see, you think "we," meaning the collective of educators, coaches, and educator-coaches, somehow means I must be a coach. If you hadn't invaded this forum to post bullshit and pick fights, you might have been able to learn something, in particular where I'm coming from. I can't take time out to introduce myself and worldview to every new arrival, and it's especially difficult when said newbie is spouting nonsense and looking for a fight. I think you are responding to the wrong person. I was saying it was pretty obvious the baphoon was the one asking who the baphoon was. I think it is time for you and greenman (assistant coach) to kiss and make up. You two never fight.

What an absolute mess. Just read this 4 page train wreck of a thread. Willard you must be so proud of yourselves. I guess for an outsider looking in I gotta say bravo. Here we have a kid who QUIT!!! Because he CHOSE not to do what was assigned to him. Nothing to do with all this bull that you douche canoes are streaming. You can whine all you want about the ax you have but fact is it was the kids choice to be a bonehead and not do what is required. Show up,show out and show initiative plane and simple. All this other crap has NOTHING to do with this young man's choice he made. It only chicken teriyaki excuses by you all to deflect that a kid did not do what is simply required. 90% of his class has this project done with so it's on him. Oh and maybe take more than bare credits to be eligible for the semester would be a start too. I'm not so sure he did quit? If he isn't at practice or games doesn't mean he quit. I think that is speculation.

Senior projects? I have never heard of them but I would agree they are silly but if the school mandates them then the students must do them, not everything has to be a mandate from the state for a school to adopt it. Some need to realize how school systems work and do not work. Some schools have mandated community service hours to graduate and that is not mandated by the state so moneyball your opinion on the matter is just your opinion. If the Curriculum Director states she wants to make it voluntary and the school board wants to make it voluntary and the Superintend wants to make it voluntary, why isn't it voluntary already? They can adopt it but it is not a requirement by the state for graduation and they cannot force a student to take it if the state of Ohio sets the guidelines for graduation and they pass all those guidelines.

This deserves zero response. This has to be the most ignorant thing i’ve read all day. OMG, some teachers are mean, lets cry about it. Life isn't all rainbows cupcake. Some teachers are mean, some bosses are mean, some fellow employees are mean, some people in line at the grocery store are mean, many kids are just mean. Are there bad teachers? Sure, but a mean teacher isn't a bad teacher. Look at what they have to deal with these days. Hands tied, cannot say anything to a student for fear of getting sued or abused by a student, jack wagon parents raising jack wagon kids. I have no issues with a teacher being tough when needed but these select few teachers have been disciplined over and over. Where there is smoke there is fire.

Moneyball, I'm just curious. I have always thought a persons personnel and discipline file is suppose to be conferential. The only ones that are allowed to see them are the principle, supers, and BoE. Did something change that allows everybody to look at it or what. Teachers shouldn't be hateful or mean to some kids. The operative word is "some". Why those specific "some"? Why not "all"? Undoubtedly they act like their parents and therefore get treated like their parents if they were in class. Like I said "genetics". It has been my experience that trouble maker kids were raised by trouble maker parents. Good kids are raised by good parents. This deserves zero response. This has to be the most ignorant thing i’ve read all day.

This is for you stupid people who blame kids grades or failures in anything at school on teachers and coaches. My daughter was an A student and my son was a B student. My wife and I worked with or kids on a nightly basis if necessary. We communicated with their teachers. We made sure their homework was done and projects and assignments were completed on time. My children do the same with their children. In general the same holds true for any extra curricular activity, including sports. Pay attention to what coaches say, DO as coaches say, work hard on your own when not at practice and you will be as good as your God given talents will allow. Genetics must be just as important to good parenting as being a good student and a good teammate. Seriously, even for those with average IQs, all that's required to get a D in any subject is pay attention in class, do homework assignments and put your name on test papers. If a kid isn't doing those three things it's the fault of their parents, no one at schools. A portion of what you say is correct, but not all of it. There are some bad teachers in Willard, only a select few and it is evident by what is in their personal and discipline file. It is a fact that there are teachers that are hateful and just right out mean to some kids. So what isbthe lesson in that? You keep your mouth shut because they are always right, no matter what. This isn’t the 1980s.

If 63 is a factual number, I'd just about bet it's based on a higher migrant population and people leaving for work in different States. There may be some leaving because of issues not related to the reason I stated. No way were there 63 problem situation/departures, not buying that scenario. If you have proof of that number, then I will admit I was mistaken, and perhaps change my opinion on this discussion. The numbers are public information. During a school board meeting a parent brought up that in 2007 we had 2100 kids, in 2017 we have 1600. That is an average of 50 kids a year, lost in this community and school, those aren’t migrant numbers. People are not flocking to Willard, they are flocking out. The school has been hit, and hard with this bullying situation and their grade performance. We continuento let teachers like the one that sent South Central the e-mail to remain teaching and coaching in our schools. Make an example of this situation and everyone else will fall in line.

Most issues involving every student can be directly related to parenting, but for some reason it quickly turns into the fault of an administration. Precisely. The majority of issues are a result of parenting or family lifestyle, especially in Willard, I will give you that. However, we have identified time after time of a couple bad apples in the teaching ranks so the "MOST" argument applies to teachers as well. In the school system they address the so called bad kids, what about addressing the so called bad teachers? The administration has failed the "MOST" teachers because the few that are bad are ruining it for all the good ones. Ritz and the Principal need to address the bad teachers or they should be held accountable by the school board. Ritz is smoke and mirrors, trust me I've heard his lies many times. You know he is lying when his mouth is moving.

Let's be honest the real problem was when they got rid of sowers and long Well let's be honest what have they gained from getting rid of them? If they would have kept them sowers would have played, cofer would have played, spencer parrot would have came back, and chance Keith would have played. Now look we lose one player and the season goes down the drain Lets try and get up a petition to get them back.

Seems like every year there’s tons of drama and some type of thread on here about Willard and a bunch of new names popping up to give their opinions. No wonder their sports can’t seem to get it figured out. And regarding the player in question, seems to be an ongoing issue with that last name. I just hope this kid can get it figured out because when he graduates from Willard the real world may be be so kind. Drama is extinguished by great leadership and consistency, enough said.

I don't think that some of you understand how eligibility works. You have to be passing a specific number of credits. It doesn't matter what the class is. If he is ineligible for failing only one class then he must not be taking much in the way of his course load. If that is the case why would the AD stand in front of every parent and athlete during a winter sports meeting and say “two Fs and you are not playing, one F and the Principal and I will determined if you deserve a contract to keep playing. He then said this can only happen once, then he said maybe (huh???)

wyandot such lame, tired, overused arguments. blame everyone in administration or the schoolboard for every problem a kid has. maybe the parents ARE the problem. maybe the kid was the problem, didn't want to study or do the work It isn't just willard where parents pull their kids, happens here too. Common theme is to blame everyone except yourself or your family. Got news for ya, that weak sauce doesn't world in the real world either. Schools are ran like the mafia these days, once you are in they protect you at any cost. Did you ever think some people on here trying to get this information out there, actually care about the kids? Pull the numbers and see how many kids have left this school year over year in the last 10 years and your head will spin. A great majority of these kids that have left are doing amazingly well at their new school, yep must have been 100% a parent issue.

Just to play devil's advocate for a second. If a "problem" student in your district is moving or transferring someplace else do you have any responsibility to warn them of potential problems? I can see the point about "destroying the kid's rep" before he gets there. But what about the kids and faculty at SC? Don't they deserve a heads up? Oh God, no. A single teacher at one school e-mailing another school's staff (or even just one teacher) is a river you don't approach, much less cross. If the receiver school wants to request official discipline documentation on a student from his or her former school, that's one thing, even though I'm not sure that's even kosher without the new school running into its own issues first. If true, such an email REEKS of desperation, is totally subjective to the teacher and therefore can't really be trusted (again, as opposed to official discipline documentation, if any exists on this student), and is totally mean-spirited and unnecessary. As for warning the students and faculty at SC, unless this student is a violent juvenile offender, I can't imagine a scenario where that isn't ridiculous overreaction. Like any other school, SC has its own policies and procedures dealing with student discipline. If warranted by the behavior of the new student, the district will implement them when they necessary, not before. A new school already on high alert over a new student before they arrive is destined to kill any chance of a successful relationship between student and school. Worst yet, he put it in writing and the parent and board of education has a copy. It was of malicious intent, there was nothing about giving the incoming school a heads up, it was right out dirty for him to do it.

teachers have zero reason to email another school about a transfer student.. leave that to the adminstration... Well, Ryan did it and was told that wasn’t very nice and please don’t do it again. Had that been one of my sons, he definitely wouldn’t be coaching and would be lucky if he kept his teaching license. He thinks he is untouchable and i see why, no one considers this stuff serious so he keeps doing it. He better wake up and if he had any integrity at all he would apologize to the school, parenst and community.

It’d be nice if you guys continued this school board and Willard discussion over on the general discussion forum, there’s a thread already about this stuff. But I do see why Willard can’t get going in any sports, look at all the drama going on. Phew. Problem is they go hand in hand and not just in Willard. As wyandot stated, a few dictating what happens because no one wants to stand up and demand that our leaders have morals and integrity any longer. When they do stand up and fight someone calls it drama or they are persecuted for it.

Broc did pass this years SR project. He informed his coach Thurs that he was done and his project was finished a couple weeks ago.Trust me I could go on and on on the Sr projects. I've had many discussions with board members in the past and the ones I've talked with agree that they are silly. Most teachers do too. For some reason there are a select few in the district that are controlling the deal and those I've talked with don't understand why the minority is winning this one. This is an interesting post because if you ask members of the board they say they want to get rid of it and if you ask ritz and smith they want to get rid of it. Someone is obviously lying.

The fact is it IS NOT REQUIRED for graduation in the state of Ohio so why is it mandatory in Willard? If your child gets straight As all through High School and they don't pass the Senior Project, they don't graduate? Responsibility is the administration putting in REQUIRED courses for graduation. Life lesson to the kid is life isn't fair and there are times where the AD and Principal will let the kid sign a contract, regardless of whether it is basketball, swimming, choir or a play (I don't have a clue why some do get to sign them and some don't. A teacher posted on here a while back that she would not support one of her students signing a contract to play football and she was overwritten by the admin???). I'm saying if it is based SOLELY on a course not mandated by the State of Ohio for graduation, and they get to continue working towards completion, they should be able to sign that contract to continue to participate in extracurricular activities, regardless of what it is. I would be giving the same argument if the lead in a play were going through the same issue. AND THEN THE TRUTH COMES OUT!!!!! That neans there is no consistency in their decision making.

I understand your point Money, but Senior project is a semester long class. It's a school mandate yes and it takes effort but there are people to help you along. It encourages students to pick something they are passionate about that they would be interested in discussing and putting time into. Some kids do a great job and others just the bare minimum. I agree it's very unfortunate to say the least as it impacts numerous people. It boils down to life skills and following protocol to a certain degree. Life is tough after HS and we get jobs and maybe go on to college if we are lucky enough,,numerous things along the way that aren't fun, but are required by that body. Priorities and life lessons, some things that are more important than playing a sport. Fact is not everyone has the means and are not fortunate enough to any support at home, that is reality. Fairness across the board is the issue. One kid should not be able to sign a contract based on opinions of the admin then, it should be all or none. One F on any mandated course and no participation, that is the lesson.

I agree with moneyball, why do we need to hold a student-athlete accountable to a school assignment to be able to play a sport. Specially when he can help the team win games. Why do we need to teach our kids responsibilities and accountability? Just let them play. These new coaches just don’t get it. The fact is it IS NOT REQUIRED for graduation in the state of Ohio so why is it mandatory in Willard? If your child gets straight As all through High School and they don't pass the Senior Project, they don't graduate? Responsibility is the administration putting in REQUIRED courses for graduation. Oh great, let’s dive deeper into a high school kids grades, courses he’s taking, personal life, anything else? Does he have a criminal record maybe we can talk about that too? Any speeding tickets? All I’m saying is if it were due to the Senior Project the kid deserves to be able to sign a contract to play because it is not a state mandated course for graduation. He is a great kid and for this to happen to him and the program in his senior year and the coaches first year is disheartening to see.

It's official after tonight! Broc baldridge knowing he was gonna be ineligible quit the team and the flashes lost big to port Clinton! Will not win again thsi year Grades? Sorry, haven't been following. I’m hearing that it had to do with the Senior Project. How can a kid become ineligible for a subject that is not mandated by the state of Ohio as a requirement for graduation. If challenged the school and CD don’t have the right to keep a kid from graduating because they do not do it or pass it, it won’t hold up in a court of law. Curious why a contract wasn’t signed to let him play since it isn’t a mandated course requires by the state of Ohio to graduate?
