this post is particularly relevant to ohio state fans, but other opinions are welcome of course.
i have friends who are on the “fire ryan day” train until last night after i saw and showed them another post comparing ryan to other elite college coaches.
*ryan is in his 5th year as headcoach at osu
- nick saban didn’t compete for his first natty until his 10th season as hc at lsu
- kirby smart made the playoff in his second year with uga where they lost to bama, and he won it all in his 6th and 7th seasons, similar to day.
- dabo didn’t compete for a title until his 8th season where clemson beat bama for the natty
all of the coaches listed have had a period of irrelevancy before they became who we see them as today. not to mention ryan day has a 56-7 record and has led ohio state to being the only team to make the playoff the last 3 out of 4 years. let’s just be patient with ryan and wait it out. after all, michigan stuck with harbaugh despite starting his tenure at michigan 0-5 against ohio state.

Obviously the interception for td was huge. But no defensive stops in 2nd half when needed was even bigger as was the complete dullness of our offensive play calling. We never really used our weapons effectively IMO. IF McCord is our best qb, how bad must Devon brown be?

Bucks looked good tonight vs an obviously over-rated #17 Alabama. Refs were awful both ways , never seen so many fouls called in a college game

Ive been to The Big Hole many times for The Game and it is not a friendly place to visit even when its just a "normal" game between these two. scUMs fan base will be in a frenzy and Ive seen and witnessed ugly incidents many times both in the stands and on the field. I hope security is abundent and tight for this game. As for the game itself, the key IMO is OSU's line play, CJ ran for his life last year and I fear this year will be no different for McCord. Unless we pressure JJ, the guy might have another stellar game against our secondary. Fearfully, I dont really expect this game to be close. Hope Im wrong but this whole sordid cheating affair just adds more impetus to TTUN.

Michigan announced Friday it has fired linebackers coach Chris Partridge. No reason for the dismissal was given. However, the separation comes amid the NCAA’s investigation into — and the Big Ten’s continued scrutiny over — an in-person scouting scheme orchestrated by a low-level recruiting staffer.
Yahoo Sports reported the NCAA presented evidence to Michigan that an athletics booster known as “Uncle T” partially funded that scouting operation. It also implicated Partridge in the attempted destruction of computer evidence. That report cited sources who said Partridge is alleged to have acted to cover up evidence but perhaps did not participate in the scheme.
It continues to get worse for scUM day by day. Partridge, btw, was one of Hairball's main men for the NIL and accompanied HAirball on NIL efforts and recruiting trips.

A week ago, Jeff Seidel of the Detroit Free Press wrote a very good opinion piece on this entire sign-stealing episode. He straight forward asked, where is the shame, where is the embarrassment from scUM? That in a lot of respects, is one of the main issues in this entire sordid affair. scUM has never denied it, never offered any explanation (other than everyone does it and this was done by a rogue staffer). Instead scUM has tried to bully its way through the situation and basically said we are Xichigan and we can do what we want and we;ll sue. The B!G and their toothless punishment deserves some criticism over this as well for their bungling of this matter. But in the end, scUM and its athletic department quite possibly may suffer more than it realizes and be remembered and forever labeled as cheaters. Thats the long-term harm that awaits this once prestigious and respected athletic program and institution IMO

Drop litigation. B1G drops investigation but pledges to cooperate with ncaa. Someone blinked but sounds like B1G did

Penalties do not matter to Glenville either.they brush them off as a mere inconvenience or nuisance to be made up on the next play. They have been flagged many more times than the opposition this season and its almost as if they expect it. Interesting but when you're that dominant overall I can almost understand it.

Glenville scored vs Shelby on a scoop/score, punt return TD, kickoff return TD and Glenville longest scoring drive was 59 yards. Throw in the failed fake punt on the very first series of the game deep in shelby territory and it was clear to me that the tar blooders didnt have to work very hard to win, thanks to all those gimmees courtesy of shelby. That being said, Glenvilles speed is dynamic all over the field, and you better tackle hard or you wont bring them down. I really like Perkins chances in this game, especially if its a wet, slippery field. I think Perkins can run on Glenville and the Pirates defense is better than Shelby's IMO. As long as the coaches don't panic and trust their kids, I look for Perkins to score the win.

So Hairball now claims scUM is the victim in all this and they should be called America's team because they are the real victims and are being persecuted. Jimmy and his fan base are more delusional daily. People don't like cheaters pure and simple. scUM is losing more and more creditability and stature as an institution as this wears on.

Pray tell, where will scUM go? Certainly not SEC where they would face tough foes every week altho the no-rrules scUM would fit right in. They got caught and the worst is yet to come from the NCAA.

Meaningless suspension when you can coach all week. But how embarrassing to scUM to have your head coach suspended twice during season. At most places that would translate to a firing but to scUM that translates to a raise. scUM athletic department is becoming a renegade department more suited to the SEC than the B1G imo

Latest rumor on SCUM blogs is that hairball to be suspended indefinitely by B1G and scUM to immediately sue B1G for violation of league rules and procedures and seek indefinite stay. That way B1G appeases rest of league and nothing really happens. Win win for both

Frankly this team has probably overachieved this season with a very suspect qb and all the injuries on offense.

I’ve not been a big fan of the expanded playoff format, but as an optimist I’m looking at the silver lining. At no point was the Shelby/CCC game in question tonight. CCC brought 28 fans to the game (I counted - it didn’t take long). Early third quarter their cheerleaders came across the field and started interacting with Shelby’s cheerleaders and cheering section. Before you knew it they were having a blast. Cheering, dancing, singing. These are two different worlds. Rural Ohio and intercity Cleveland. They have so little in common, but a seemingly meaningless football game made a connection in an increasingly divided world. Best part of the night. That was, by far, the highlight of the evening. The cheerleaders from both teams, the Shelby student body and band had a blast as did the fans who witnessed it. Makes one feel that maybe there is a chance for this world after all. Kudos to all and thanks to fan as well who assisted on an emergency situation in the crowd as well. The best part of humanity was on display Friday night

Athletic. Very aggressive. Their speed and aggressiveness can pose lots of problems for slower shelby.

Seems some scUM apologists are quite content with the situation, rationalizing that "everyone does it" and the NCAA is picking on HAirball and scUM. Seems to me that based on this current situation and past history with Hairball recruiting and some past issues with the scUM basketball program, there's appears to me at least that there is a lack of moral compass and direction in the scUM athletic department and in an university that likes to portray itself as squeaky clean and morally just,

A fun fact going into week 10: Drew Pasteur measures the Most Improved Teams in each division. Each point of improvement roughly equates to a 1pt margin on the field. I.e., a team with a +10 has a 10 point improvement in average expected margin of victory/defeat in any given game. In D2, Marion Harding is the 4th most improved team, with a +23.8 D3, Ontario is the 3rd most improved team, +33.2 D4, Shelby is 5th, +27.9 D5, Pleasant is 1st, +38.6 This is why I think Pleasant will be every bit as tough for Shelby as Ontario was last week. They have a very solid running game and with the obviously wet conditions tonight Shelby's passing game will be negatively affected. To me, this will be a toss-up game

Below is the relevant part of the above conversation, from the Plain Dealer:
"In addition to Hawkins, a senior cornerback and transfer from Maple Heights, defensive end Kareem Jennings returned to the field for Glenville. Jennings, who transferred from Benedictine with fellow senior defensive tackle Divontae James and receiver Erik Cloud, sat out the last three weeks after the OHSAA reviewed their change of school.
Neither James nor Cloud played Thursday. Senior quarterback Ruel Tomlinson Jr., who transferred from Walsh Jesuit, sat out but remained present on the sideline. He watched with a jersey over a dress shirt and was accompanied by his parents during a halftime ceremony to recognize the team’s seniors."
