Lucroy wanted the team to drop 2017 club option. Indians said no so the deal is at a stand still. He also whined about having to DH and play some first base when Gomes comes back.

No issue these guys have only so much say in their career so those that exercise a NTC shouldn't be an issue. Not many went crazy (other than agent) when the Cubs made Kris Bryant spend 11 days in the minors last year to benefit the team.

Tough to lose Frazier but we have good OF depth and Miller is signed for next year. I just assume keep Francisco because Lucroy is a *****. Whined last year to get traded because MIL sucked and now blocking a trade. Screw him let him rot in Wisconsin. Miller will be under contract for 2016, 2017 AND 2018. He'll be 34 when a Free Agent in 2019. He only costs Cleveland $9,000,000 each year. Actually becomes a pay raise for Miller. MUCH cheaper to live 6 months a year in Cleveland than NYC. Good value for one of, if not the best left hander in the back of the bullpen pitchers in baseball. Interesting that both Miller AND Allen have already said they don't care how Francona uses them. They both want to do what is best for the team. Sounds like he'll fit right in this clubhouse. Also, cost Cleveland three really good young pitching prospects. Justin Sheffield, 1st round pick in 2014. 20 year old 5-10 lefty starter, 7-5 with 3.59 era in A ball this year. Throws in mid 90s. J.P Feryereisen, 23 year old righty reliever, 1.80 ERA in three years in minors. Ben Heller, 24 year old righty reliever, 2.77 ERA in 4 years in the minors. Throws 98-100mph. With Tyler Naquin having the rookie season he's having, the trade became much easier to make. Frazier 21 year old 1st round pick in 2013 is a potential 30 HR, 30 Stolen Base player. Indians still have Bradley Zimmer in Columbus, 23 year old potential 20, 40 player. Both can play all 3 outfield positions. The New York press says the Yankees "fleeced" the Indians. A LOT more fun to see the Yankees selling and Indians buying this time of year.

Now that Almonte is starting to hit, I heard he won't be eligible for the playoff roster, due to his half a season suspension for performance enhancing substance use. If Zimmer looks good when called up in September and Brantly is done for the season, he could make the post season roster.
Also a couple fewer pitchers won't be needed. Only 4 starters will be used and not as many relievers, since there's an off day every 2 or 3 days when teams travel. Three catchers on the roster is a possibility, as Francona should do a lot of pitch hitting for that position. He should treat the catchers as pitchers in the National league. Not only pitch hit for them, but have them always bunt base runners over, always better than a DP or SO. They should be bunting more than half their time in the batting cage.
As an aside, which of the 5 starters will be more useful out of the bullpen, since only 4 starters will be needed?

I'd like to see a reference cited regarding Almonte's playoff eligibility as I believe he is eligible. If I'm wrong that's fine, but doubt it.

Lucroy will get what he wanted, to play for a contender (Texas) and a pay raise.
Players have all control. Fans are just dollar signs to them.

i like Clint Frazier but he will never sniff 30 steals in the majors hehe
30 homers sure, but i would like his chances better in NYC if he was a lefty.
Frazier instantly becomes the Yankees best prospect, and they now have one of the better farm systems in the majors with Mateo and Torres at SS, Frazier and Judge in the OF, Sanchez behind the plate, and Kaprellian looking like a steal til he hurt his elbow. I'm not a huge Sheffield fan and he is only in High-A, but he has pitched ok. That we kept Mejia to me is the big deal here because that kid is the real deal and he has a cannon for an arm.

Well, you'd have to watch every minute of every Indian's game. Manning and Underwood had a conversation about it yesterday, mentioning the rule and saying they hoped Almonte wouldn't get many at bats in September due to being ineligible for the playoffs.

The key for the Tribe today and Mr. Clevenger might be NOT giving up 8 runs by the end of the 4th inning to the Twins.
First 4 innings have gone like this in the series 8/1 - 2, 1, 5, 0 8/2 - 0, 0, 4, 4 8/3 - 2, 1, 5, 0
Funny how the first and third games were the same at the start of the game, does that mean that today will be like 8/2? I hope not.
Oh, and Twins have scored 35 runs so far this series. Tribe has scored 16.
Glad those trades got the team motivated for the stretch run.

The Twins are now 9-2 vs Clev and Texas this season. They just seem to have their number.

What I've noticed is really since the 14 game winning streak, the starting pitching has left a lot to be desired. Because the front office is content with the offense the way it is, it becomes even more important that they get good starting pitching. And the starters have been awful against the Twins in this series.

What the hell has happened to the strong, consistent pitching? This team is going down in flames, unless they can turn this around. Detroit is red hot and soon to overcome the Tribe.....unless.

well look at the teams they faced during the 14-game streak, they were some of the worst offenses in the Majors

They didn't face a good hitting team in April, May or June?? At the end of June each starter had an ERA of 3.59 or or lower. In the first 3 months of the season their pitching staff gave up fewer runs than any American League team. Now Salazar has a sore shoulder and Carrasco and Bauer can't locate like they were earlier

Bauer has always been a head case and Tomlin can only get by with his off speed stuff for so long. The big 3 were always going to have to carry this staff. Offensively they have gotten better production than they had any right to expect. The MLB season is long and water usually tends to find its own level. I don't expect Detroit to stay hot for long with that bullpen but with JD back in the lineup they will score runs in bunches.

Kipnis already has a career high of 18. Napoli could hit 40, Santana could hit 35. The young Naquin and Lindor have 13 each, could get 20. Good starting pitching and home runs win a lot of games.

^^^Apparently you don't watch much Tiger baseball with that bullpen comment... I was actually up in Detroit about two weeks ago and watched in person as the bullpen imploded against the Twins and ****** away a perfectly good game by Verlander. Their bullpen has been their main issue for several years now.

And actually they play 162 games in a season so one game isn't a great indicator of long term performance. By that standard I could say the Indians starting rotation is trash because the twins scored 6, 8, & 8 off of 3 of Cleveland's top 5 starters. I'm not saying that by the way....Cleveland does have a good rotation(the salazar injury notwithstanding)
Since Shane Greene came off the DL and was put into the bullpen(early June) Detroit's bullpen has dropped a full run off their ERA from the 1st 2 months (4.56 vs. 3.64) and reduced their BAA .275 vs .243. Do they have flashing names and 100mph arms like NYY, KC or Cleveland? No but Greene, A Wilson, J Wilson, and KROD are performing at a high level.
And that "bullpen implosion" after Verlander's start vs. Minny? That was one of only 2 blown saves out of 33 chances for KROD. I'll take that

Wow what a comeback win that was! back to back homers in the 9th, with the 2nd one being an inside the park job. Naquin now has two straight walk off hits.

Two nights ago was SF but yes two game winners for Naquin. We are up 7 with 42 to go. Tigers made a run a couple weeks ago but aren't good enough to sustain it and they fell back and are closer to 4th than us. They remain jokes.
