That announcer was way off on that one. No way would even Vermilion want in the River. Those would be some major road trips for every opponent. I could see making a case for Willard to go to the River. Maybe it’s just me but I really don’t think Huron wants to be the little school in the SBC Lake.

Agree. Football aside, they can compete in the Lake pretty consistently in just about every other sport. Hell, they made it to the state semifinals in baseball and won the Lake. And geographically speaking, most people in Vermilion have never even heard of, let alone traveled to, most of the west and south River schools. They would move back to the east to somehow join Lorain Co. schools before that ever happened.

In a worst case scenario you could add the 6 Lake schools to Edison, Huron, Port Clinton and Vermilion and do a 10 team league.

Was visiting my brother the other day who has two kids in the Huron schools, one of which is a 5th grader and the other a 3rd grader. He showed me the list of total students at the start of this school year and 5th grade had a total of 96 students. The 3rd grade had a total of 80 students. If these numbers keep trending that throughout the lower grades then Huron better be looking ahead cause there’s no way they’ll be hanging with the SBC Lake or Bay schools with those numbers.

When I graduated in 1989, there were almost 140 in the class. How times have changed...

A lot of neighborhoods along the lake that had families in them growing up are now just summer rentals. It also seems like there is more older/retirees living in Huron then there used to be also. After these next few years of graduates for Huron come and go there will be a major shift in numbers there.

Okay so apparently the SBC is talking about moving Bellevue to the Bay and Willard to the River in 2023 and instituting a couple crossovers to keep everything all shored up as Oak Harbor departs. Not much different than some of the schemes proposed earlier in the thread. Maybe they're lurking...

At this point the River division my as well break off on its own. It would eliminate having worry if someone would have to come up to the Bay if anymore changes were to happen.
What happens if the NLL comes knocking on Sanduskys or Columbians door and they were to leave then we’d have to go through this again.

Keith is right, though, anytime this is brought up. I bring it up because it's my wishful and very much, thinking. I probably should know better.

What would happen if Hurons enrollment became smaller then the biggest enrollment in the River?

I find it hard to believe that Bellevue is going along with this. Now that Schubert has retired as AD, does the new AD have no history in Bellevue?

Our principle, Artino, is currently the president of the SBC. Also, I think it's the principals that decide this stuff, not AD's.

What will their rival game be? It should be Clyde right? but that will be gone.. I am not going to lie I wanted Perkins because of the history we have with them. I want them in all sports..could care a less about enrollment. But it is what it is.. I welcome Bellevue back to the schedule for the most part it has always been a good gate, and good game.. Will see what happens...

Bellevue now fills their schedule (basically) with Lake and Bay schools. Sounds like a no brainer, IMO. Wasn’t going to be that way if they stayed in the Lake, I do not believe.

What will their rival game be? It should be Clyde right? but that will be gone. Where do you think it's going? Bellevue and Clyde will still play each other. In this new setup we only have 4 conference games plus 2 mandatory crossovers. That's 4 OOC games to find. I would assume Bellevue will continue playing Shelby in week 3, so that's 3 OOC games to find. I would love to see us fill all 3 of those slots with whichever Lake teams aren't already mandatory crossovers, and wouldn't be too shocked if that really happens. Our schedule could literally be 5 Lake, 4 Bay and Shelby.

River schools have to be happy. They get back to seven conference games instead of driving all over the countryside. Willard and Woodmore can finally get a chance at winning a game.

I didn’t realize the enrollments of Lakota, Woodmore, Willard and Margaretta were as large as they are…even H-L has increased.

Willard and Woodmore can finally get a chance at winning a game. Maybe Willard football should change their team name to the Salmon. They started their SBC life in the River. Then they went out into the Bay. Now they are making a run back to into the River hoping to spawn new life into the program.

Will see what happens... There's nothing saying that the SBC couldn't set one of the mandatory crossovers up as a "protected rivalry" a la the SEC and just have the other one rotate annually. The protected rivalries could look like: Huron vs Perkins Edison vs Norwalk Bellevue vs Clyde Vermilion vs Sandusky Port Clinton vs Columbian At least the first 3 would have some historical and/or geographic value.

Vermilion-Sandusky was always Week 10 in old ESC.
Last game mentioned, battle of TC alums leading the way.

The shuffling continues in NW Ohio. Just seen that North Baltimore and Cory Rawson will be joining the NWCC and leaving the BVC after the 22-23 school year. I can’t imagine that the BVC will be very appealing to Vanlue and Arcadia once Elmwood comes into the league.
