On the topic of Bellevue scheduling 5 non conference games, do you know how many of the 5 this year were 2 year contracts? Can we expect next year's schedule to be the same as this year just with 6 home and 4 away, or no? The only change for Bellevue in 2018 is West Holmes is replaced by Madison.

Seneca County is part of the new-look SBC's primary territory now... Columbian, Calvert, Old Fort, New Riegel, Lakota (parts), Bellevue (parts), Clyde (parts), and so on. I'm expecting Seneca East to come aboard soon, and I wouldn't be surprised to pick up Mohawk at some point as well. Fostoria would be a stretch, though. Agree that Richland County is a stretch... just doesn't feel right. Tell exactly why this is about money... Maybe I'm overthinking it, but why is there a need for a 20-or-so-school, three-tier conference here that stretches from the middle of Ottawa County to Richland County to the west side of Lorain County? Why not 3 separate, autonomous conferences? If some schools in one of those conferences (or divisions) have varsity athletics not shared by their fellows, they can be affiliate members for those sports only in other closeby conferences. We answered this question on Page 6: I don't see how four separate conferences (divisions) that serve under one umbrella that is the SBC, can maintain a long term sustainability. Perhaps a couple seasons, then I see the formula falling like a deck of cards. I don't see it happening. Ever hear of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference? The OVAC has 51 schools spanning OHSAA divisions I thru VII. The schools are divided into 5 divisions (AAAAA thru A) by size. They realign every once in awhile as enrollments change. The OVAC has been around since 1943. Check'em out: www.ovac.orgSmall conferences in-between large metro areas almost always struggle because schools in these areas usually have to pick from either local conferences containing schools of disparate sizes or conferences that involve lots of travel. As boards change, the attitudes about which is the right model changes, and so there is typically lots of conference instability in rural areas. The schools in the OVAC solved this problem by coming together for the long haul. There's no reason the SBC can't duplicate that success. In other words, there can be strength in numbers as long as everyone is willing to trade some of their personal desires for that strength. The longevity of any conference depends on this. If you're not willing to compromise, then you don't belong in any conference.

I would have to do some checking myself to see if there's two-year contracts or not but from what I've been told is it's expected to be the norm for awhile either until more teams are added to the lake or teams like Huron, Vermilion and Port Clinton agreed to play us during the regular season and Shelby sticking with us for the long term.

I'm fairly certain they travel to Mansfield next year which I think will even out the schedule.

Thanks. Would have been nice to have a 6 home and 4 away in '18 to make up for this year, though I suppose this year will make up for us having three 6 home game seasons vs, two 4 home game seasons from from 2006 to 2010.
Bellevue-Madison will be only the 2nd ever matchup between those 2 schools, with the first one being back in 1954.

Also, this year will be the only season that the River Division has 6 teams and has weeks 4 and 5 open, and the following crossover games involving River schools in those 2 weeks are on the schedule:
Week 4: Huron @ Willard Margaretta @ Norwalk Oak Harbor @ Calvert SJCC @ Port Clinton
Week 5: Edison @ Willard Huron @ Margaretta
Starting in 2018 with the addition of Gibsonburg and Danbury the River will be at 8 schools and will no longer need to schedule OOC or crossover games in weeks 4 and 5.
So my question is, do you (or anyone else) know who Huron, Edison, Oak Harbor, Port Clinton and Norwalk have found to fill those weeks on their 2018 schedules?

I do know to get some of these schools to come play us it costs us a good chunk of money. we paid Villa Angela Saint Joe (when David Lighty played the receiver for them) over $2000 at least to come to Bellevue and we paid the same to Cleveland John Marshall and both were years ago so I'm curious what we're paying Canton central Catholic to come in week one. People do not realize that not having home and home match ups with quality programs and local gate your athletic program is dishing more money out to get teams to come play you at home.

I would like to think our AD would of signed a two year deal with Shelby sense we are going to there place two years straight. Last year and this year. The only way they would play us is if we came to Shelby this year is what I'm being told. That way it would keep Shelby at five home and away. Bellevue is four home and six away. Besides Clyde away the next closest game away we have is Shelby. No cross over games other then Shelby. I still find it funny that there are four other teams the same size as us in this SBC and none of them will play us. The league is not about saving schools money in travel! I still don't get it. We should of just went independent this year. I'm sure the teams in the Lake would of still played us sense were the smallest team in the lake. LOL PC being one of those teams and they played us pretty much even last night. Good luck to all SBC teams and represent this season. It should be fun to watch. Bellevue plays Perkins and Tiffin on the road. Both are closer than Shelby

Canton Central Catholic is the defending DV State Champs after back-to-back state runner-up teams. Bellevue is not paying them anything. They have to play up and/or travel to get games as well. Payment is only required for the "bad" or "small" teams.

Especially when they go to this league and get their brains bashed out! SMCC is in the 20's in football #'s grades 9-12. They're on life support too.

Good lord I hope you weren't being serious when you typed that, as it's one of the stupidest things I've seen on here. "Hey! Let's play the exact same freaking teams that are on the schedule now, with the only change being that we would no longer be eligible to win the division championship even if we beat all of them! Brilliant!" Also shows that divisions titles are not thought as highly of as League Championships.

Hopewell to SBC River Division in 2 years. The only question left is when Willard is forced to play football in the Bay Division, will they already be gone and in The Northern 10 by then. The N10 rejected them once, will they do it again?

Why? 1. Carey won't go ANYWHERE without Mohawk. 2. Drives in the N10 are good. 3. Gates in the N10 are good. 4. Reasonable number of sports/teams in N10 for Carey. 5. For voting purposes, Carey would be the ONLY Wyandot County school in the BVC (this is much bigger than people think), while in the N10, they have both Mohawk and Upper from Wyandot County as a voting bloc. 6. Carey won't go ANYWHERE without Mohawk. BVC is gonna get another phone call from Lima Central Catholic. You can bet that. And the BVC will say no. Have often wondered if Patrick Henry would ever pull the trigger. Think the BVC will be looking for a while.

Yep, I think Patrick Henry would be the only chance and that would be slim to none. Of course the BVC will again reach out to Bluffton and Grove and again get rejected. Hopewell is making a smart move regardless.

Why do some NOL fans see this change as a merger when in fact the news schools all joined the SBC. There is not a reason for a name change when the SBC was and is still alive. The NOL and the SBC are the leagues that did not survive. If the SBC did not survive, why is there currently a conference that is called the SBC?? That is a good question. 8 teams to 21 teams. Not the same league. Not even close but still called the SBC. JMO

I thought it was suppose to be 3 different leagues (Lake,Bay, River) under one umbrella (SBC). Huron's non conference games are Perkins, Sandusky, Streetboro, Willard, & Margaretta. Then the 5 league games, Being there's 6 schools in the Bay League, For football. So why do any of the 3 leagues, need to branch out and start another league that they already are ?

JMO It was a mistyped league. I had corrected the next day back in June. I meant to say the NOL and the SRL did not survive.

At a special Hopewell-Loudon board meeting on Tuesday, 29 August, Hopewell-Loudon voted to join the SBC starting in 2019-2020. The special board meeting was required to notify the Blanchard Valley Conference by 1 September. With Hopewell-Loudon joining the SBC, the only high school located in Seneca County not in the conference will be Seneca East (OHSAA lists Fostoria as Wood County). Looking at the current OHSAA enrollment figures, Hopewell-Loudon fits in the River Division. Some jockeying around will need to take place to even out the divisions as Hopewell-Loudon would the 9th school in the River Division. Who will move up in both football and the other sports remains to be seen. The largest school in the River Division (not including Margaretta and Willard who are football only) is Lakota. It would also seem that either Willard or Margaretta would also have to move to the Bay Division in football. Fun times ahead. www.advertiser-tribune.com/news/local-news/2017/08/h-l-board-agrees-to-join-athletic-league/

Margaretta will not be forced to change leagues from River to Bay. They initially left the SBC for that River Conference. I think if they did get forced to move up, They'd leave the SBC and River league, for something else. I'm not sure where they'd go, But they wouldn't put up this. Like St. Mary's, they were the next one to cry how small they are, and couldn't compete. The Bears are happy to be where there at. But let's not forget, last year Edison started crying that too, and wanted into the River.
