Perkins is the biggest D4 team, and Sandusky is the smallest D2, each by 1 student.

Still lots of openings on the girls side. I'm assuming not a ton of interest is the cause. I could see Loudonville's coach being a great fit at Norwalk with the talent they have coming back. why did he leave Loudonville? I can't be for certain but the Redbirds beat some teams in their league by 70 and 80 points in the first round of their conference schedule. Teams refused to play Loudonville in the second round of their conference schedule. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but I can see that not being great for the school and their conference members.

Mark Hazelwood did an outstanding job of completing a story about how girls numbers for basketball players in the area are down. It would be great to see if he would ever tackle the issue that we see above that each year we have 10-20 or more coaching openings in both girls and boys basketball in the NW Ohio area. With coaching being a year long commitment, it would be interesting to hear why coaches are leaving with real answers and not just the "I want to spend more time wit my family." It would be interesting to see how many were "forced out," how many had coaching burn out, how many were true more family time, or other reasons for getting out of coaching. With more and more responsibilities of HS coaches, I think we see this year in and year out. For those of us who do not live in an area of Ohio (or adjoining states) that may be close to where you are from and might now know about whoever "Mark Hazelwood" is, please enlighten me/us. He must be a reporter then I take it? Yes, from the Norwalk Reflector, wrote a two piece article on the decline in the numbers of girls basketball players in north central Ohio. Very informative and eye opening at some of the numbers, or lack there of in the area, and gave some reasons and incite from coaches.

Mapleton beat New London 63-17. How bad has the sports program gotten there? Do the boys there just hunt now or just don’t care about sports anymore? If this is any indication of what’s coming next fall then it won’t be long and they’ll be back to 8 man New London has some solid middle school boys playing basketball. If they play football I would definitely say that will help them soon. One 7th grade basketball player will be a nice addition to the varsity roster when he is a freshman, he will have an immediate impact on their sports. Very good athlete with some other solid athletes around him.

For these schools that are struggling with numbers, competitive games, etc., what about joining a football only league to help them until their programs get on their feet. Vanlue, New London, St. Joe, SMCC, Danbury, Crestline, Wellington, and throw in another school and you would have a 7-8 team conference. The can play the bottom 3 city league teams from Cleveland and Toledo for their first three games or choose two play a team twice. It would help create competitive games and would get more kids involved and possibly grow their programs. Thoughts?

South Central will be looking for a new coach. Trojans are in the process of hiring both a football and basketball coach.

I did not see that one! Dang, that would have been first on the list. I did see a game was 61-0 at halftime, River 61 Conotton Valley 0. It ended up 86-13. Ouch! Tri-Village still takes the cake!

Does the future of the FC exist in girls basketball? Only 3 teams had had JV teams and some didn't have JH teams. Do any teams reach the district tourney?

I was going through some of the scores from the tournament and saw some of these eye popping scores. Do we continue to play these games or have teams qualify for the tournament football? Have some sort of selection show for high school to kick off the tournament?

I do believe Monroeville's Nester is their football and wrestling coach. It has to be so much time. Both sports are very time intensive sports and long seasons.

Monroeville wins 3-0. I do believe this is the first time they have won a game down at state. Will be a tough game between either Crestview or New Bremen.

Western to the SBC Bay and Lucas to the FC. Would be a great fit for both. Western would struggle at first but I think in the long run it would help them compete once they get in the postseason.

I agree SBC, the coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for being 8-3 on the season. Graduating 22 seniors and having small junior and senior classes and playing a lot sophomores could have been a recipe for rebuilding year, but Carter and staff have done a heck of a job this year. The future looks bright with lots of younger talent on the way as well.
Almost a two hour drive for Norton this week, that's quite a haul, will that affect them Friday night?

My uncle was telling me that the Monroeville baseball team has lost 63 straight games. Can anyone confirm? Has to be one of the longest ever? Does their youth still go through Lefty Grove?Feel bad for the program, hopefully they can get a W next year.
