Margaretta is being forced to change from the River to the Bay. Wait, so does that mean Willard will stay in the River? Typo. Margaretta ISN'T being forced to move to the Bay. Sorry about that.

Margaretta will not be forced to change leagues from River to Bay. They initially left the SBC for that River Conference. I think if they did get forced to move up, They'd leave the SBC and River league, for something else. I'm not sure where they'd go, But they wouldn't put up this. Like St. Mary's, they were the next one to cry how small they are, and couldn't compete. The Bears are happy to be where there at. But let's not forget, last year Edison started crying that too, and wanted into the River. 1. Margaretta isn't being forced to change from the River to the Bay. Willard is. 2. If Margaretta did decide to leave the SBC, they have nowhere to go. Firelands won't take them (they asked when Ryan Bohn was AD). Margaretta is locked in. They need to take whatever is coming and like it. Being an independent is a lot worse. 3. Had heard that regarding Edison and their long-term demographics. But that won't happen either. 4. In reference to your earlier question about the River Division breaking off, they won't. But the early feedback was not good as the bigger SBC schools tried to throw their weight around. Left the Small schools with a bad taste in their mouths. But create a new conference is a LOT of work (more than most people know) and as long as the Lake and Bay don't try to force things down their throats, this is the best setup the River schools could ask for.

They only get to be in the River a short time, then off to the Bay Divison! A worse fit for them, I cannot imagine. And no crossovers with the River, who will be at 8 soon after Hopewell accepts. What a nightmare. Really? The Bay Division a worse fit for Willard than the schedule they were playing in the NOL (Bellevue, Sandusky, Shelby, Norwalk, Tiffin, etc.)? In the Bay, Div 5 Willard will have to play other Div 5 & 4 schools instead of Div 7 & 6 schools.... oh the horror!!! LOL. Granted. It's better than playing the old NOL. its the second worst fit. Did you actually even watch Willard play last year. I did. My nephew played for D7 Plymouth last year, so I went to the Willard/ Plymouth game. Mind you Plymouth not only is D7, but finished the season 2-8 for God's sake. It wasn't pretty. Plymouth beat Willard. They couldn't even beat a D7 school. Its just the realities of the situation they are in. They know playing Huron, Port Clinton, Edison, etc. leaves them zero chance for the future to rebuild the program. Which is why they are calling other conferences.

Another phase is complete with Hopewell officially joining the SBC so who is next? Woodmore? Seneca East? Mohawk? Carey? Northwood? Elmwood? Some of these schools would border on being in the Bay Division which probably changes their interest level unless the SBC looks to stay at 10-12 schools in the River Division. Short answer: NONE. 1. None of those schools would even remotely consider going into the Bay. Too small and not growing. 2. Which means those schools would go into the River Division, which already has 8 football schools and 10 overall. Which is perfect if you ask the River Divison people. 3. Haven't heard that any of those schools are going anywhere right away. 4. To me, the more likely scenario is the River Divison leaving to start their own conference, and/or Willard leaving to the Northern 10 if they can convince the N10 to take them.

worst kept secret in NW Ohio. Hopewell to SBC River Division in 2 years. The only question left is when Willard is forced to play football in the Bay Division, will they already be gone and in The Northern 10 by then. The N10 rejected them once, will they do it again? Will Carey consider a move to the BVC to replace H-L??? Jafo, we both know the answer to that. No chance. Sure, the BVC will reach out, and Carey has mulled it over before, but it won't happen. Why? 1. Carey won't go ANYWHERE without Mohawk. 2. Drives in the N10 are good. 3. Gates in the N10 are good. 4. Reasonable number of sports/teams in N10 for Carey. 5. For voting purposes, Carey would be the ONLY Wyandot County school in the BVC (this is much bigger than people think), while in the N10, they have both Mohawk and Upper from Wyandot County as a voting bloc. 6. Carey won't go ANYWHERE without Mohawk. BVC is gonna get another phone call from Lima Central Catholic. You can bet that. And the BVC will say no. Have often wondered if Patrick Henry would ever pull the trigger. Think the BVC will be looking for a while.

BV has looked around. OCC would be the best for them but don't think OCC wants them. With the new Olentangy school coming in next year and I'm guessing joining the OCC, maybe they will look to add 2 schools. BV would struggle in FB but compete in BB and baseball. Parents have voiced their opinions about the long travels coming up. The new Olentangy school is going in the OCC Capital with the other Olentangy and Westerville schools would be the best OCC geographic fit even though BV is undersized. But from what I have been told, those schools have made it clear that their Divison would be only for "Westerville and Olentangy schools exclusively". Have a hard time seeing Big Walnut and Delaware Hayes being told to get lost and go to a different Divison and then BV get added. But who knows with all this division and conference shifting. As for the remainder of the OCC, the OCC Cardinal would probably be the next best fit, but not sure the Hilliard schools would be jacked about that. The other 3 divisions are not good fits drive-wise. It's a weird thing about Columbus schools. If you ask them to drive anywhere north of Delaware, it's like you are asking them to go to Mars. I've heard fans from the OCC complain like they had driven to Texas, LOL.

It will be interesting to see if the don't let the door hit you in the axx on the way out attitude affects any of the schools Shelby will play in the sbc the next two years in football. Little more nasty or feisty perhaps? Could be interesting to see. The schools they'll be playing are ones that they have either little or no history with, so not sure how that might affect the nastiness possibility. If they go by computer points Willard would be left out. If they go by travel considerations Bellevue would be left out. If they go by longest standing rivalry then I suppose either Lex or Madison would be left out. I'm obviously biased, but I would love to see the Bellevue-Shelby series continue, and think it would be great as a yearly week 3 matchup. Don't forget that NW District voting plays into that decision as well. With Shelby moving into a conference that is heavily Central District, they will want to get NW District eyeballs on their kids for end of season voting.

Willard isn't going anywhere. They know they will bump to the Bay Division, which was where they wanted to be originally. Plus, it's worth pointing out (for anyone who might not be that familiar with the SBC setup) that Willard is already in the Bay division for all other sports. Can't speak for anyone else...but I am familiar. Doesn't change the emoji...

I don't see where BV would go. They are way to big to join a small school conference. So really the only other option would be the OCC. They have no business in a conference with the Olentangy schools, Westerville schools, etc. unless they get significantly larger. That's a whole different world. Like I have said, they don't want to go. And no one in the MOAC wants them to go. The OCC is too big. But there are other conferences in the area always sniffing around. And in the case of the MSL, with London now gone they have an opening. But Columbus traffic is a bear. That's why I don't think there is any rush from them to go anywhere. No perfect fits for them.

They are just making that up to have something to talk about on the radio. None of the Marion County schools are going anywhere. Some of the completely made up rumors on here this summer were hilarious and ridiculously off the mark. Frankly, the radio announcers probably got that idea from here. Willard won't come to the MOAC and the MOAC would not be interested. The real concern is actually Buckeye Valley. They have long drives to Clear Fork, Ontario and now, Shelby. Everyone in the conference wants BV to stay, and BV likes the conference but is getting more worried about the drive times. Thanks for the clarification. No problem. I was kind of surprised to hear the Marion guys talking that way because all discussions seemed to include RV, and Pleasant for sure and also Harding in the mix. (Wrong, wrong and wrong. Laughably wrong.). In fact in the Richland Source story about Shelby joining the MOAC John Gies, Shelby High School Principal, made the comment that they liked the conference and were comfortable with the stability of it (That's because he knows it now IS stable, the only concern being BV and BV is in no hurry to leave.). which surprised me to hear what was said tonight. He also said that there might be a tweak or two, which I figured would involve Buckeye Valley. (The tweak isn't Buckeye Valley....any potential tweaks will be to do whatever is reasonably possible to KEEP Buckeye Valley. Good acadmics, good sports, good location right off of 23. Lots of positives at BV.)

Was just listening to phoneboard on wqel and some of the radio personalities from wmrn radio in Marion suggested more of the Marion County schools may ultimately look elsewhere as well. Would Willard be an option for the MOAC if this came to pass? Willard would be going to the Bay Division if Hopewell Loudon joins. Willard isn't going anywhere. They know they will bump to the Bay Division, which was where the wanted to be originally. They have spent plenty of time exploring their options and believe the SBC is a better fit for them than the MOAC. Not sure if that would change if the N10 came calling, although I do not believe that will ever happen.

Even kingmartinez said it above. They may play some SBC teams but will not be members. Right now the SBC is a scramble trying to get schedules put together for such a large group and with Shelby leaving doesn't help. So from what I am told the SBC took a stance but some teams may still honor the games but some are truly upset with Shelby. Note what I mentioned above. More to come.

That's not what I was just told about Shelby and their football membership in the SBC. I'm sure it will be reported in the paper soon. And the MOAC DID tell NU they could leave right away, but wasn't going to push them out needlessly. That came from a SBC member involved. This was all in response to Shelby's timeline. All I said was the MOAC has the power to do the same thing the SBC did and get Shelby in. Regardless of what the CBC wants to do. Mine also came from an SBC member involved. So maybe my guy is wrong. Or your guy is. Guess it only matters if you live in Shelby. And they may not care that much either. My point was that everything to the South was based on the 11-team idea and Londons membership in the MSL. North Union asked for patience and got it because they were a charter member of the conference. They deserved that. Shelby had to roll the dice in that meeting with the SBC and is fortunate they are still playing SBC teams in football next fall. Could have been ugly to fill that schedule.

Yup, kinda. Just got word in it all NU stays in for 2018 football, but goes to the CBC for all other sports in 2018-2019. CBC just couldn't pull the trigger on 11-team football schedule after London was not allowed out of their football contracts by the MSL Shelby will play SBC football schedule for 2018, but will play MOAC for all other sports in 2018-2019 taking North Union's place. You see Scooter (Dude), the CBC DID have a big role in all this. Tried to tell you...as always.wally, I never said the CBC didn't have a role. If you could read, I said the CBC didn't matter if the MOAC pulled the same action that the SBC did and would tell NU they are out since they plan to leave. Shelby will not play an SBC schedule in 2018. They have already been told their football membership ends this year. Now thay may end up playing some SBC teams but not as a member. That's not what I was just told about Shelby and their football membership in the SBC. I'm sure it will be reported in the paper soon. And the MOAC DID tell NU they could leave right away, but wasn't going to push them out needlessly. And what you said was incorrect, because even IF the MOAC had told North Union to leave early (like the SBC did with Shelby as you say) the CBC was considering the 11-team option for their conference so that North Union could play football there next year. That is now dead.

NU not accepted to CBC until 2019. Shelby is set to play an SBC football schedule (for those that still agree) in 2018 but will not be a conference member. Yup, kinda. Shelby will be in the MOAC next year. For all the sports not called football, that is 100% correct. As as for football, that is yet to be decided. CBC is soon having their meeting to tell North Union whether or not they can get in for football right away. Word from NU will be coming soon. I personally think the CBC will work it out, but we will see in the near future.

IMO, it will come down to when the CBC will allow NU and London to join. The SBC didn't give Shelby a choice. They told them they were out after this year. Saying something to the effect, " You're either in or you're out". Not being happy about them joining the SBC then announcing they were leaving before playing a game. Thus Shelby would have to play an independent schedule next year, if they can't join the MOAC next year. Ha. The SBC better get ready to keep saying that if that is what they said. It ain't over.

What a coincidence; all my buddies and I go on our yearly golf trip to Kendallville, Indiana. Every year. Noble Hawk or Cobblestone? I don't golf, but I know where the courses are. How did you choose Kendallville? Had been looking for a better place...This year was 18 at some country club in southwest Fort Wayne, then 36 on Monday at Noble Hawk, then 18 on Tuesday at Cobblestone. Dirt cheap and a good time. 72 holes in 72 hours. We start off the first two days (Friday/Saturday) at our buddies lake house near Columbia City I believe. Shriner Lake or something like that. Simple rules. Everyone brings case of beer. Only steaks and beef can be eaten during the trip and no girlfriends/wives.

No no no...dump is right this time. You see, Fort Wayne IN is 30 minutes from where I live now, and this Jah Leh kid (6-5, 228 lbs) is still the talk of the area. As the starting QB last season, he threw for 8,457 yards, 79 TDs and 0 interceptions. He also had 3,617 yards rushing and 49 rushing TDs. On defense, he racked up 562 tackles and 48 sacks. On special teams, he returned 9 kickoffs for touchdowns and 6 punt returns for touchdowns. Plus, he was perfect on PATs (168-168) and kicked a 91 yard field goal. They can't stop talking about him. Sorry, couldn't resist. I haven't lost my mind, I'm merely being factitious and having a bit of fun. What a coincidence; I live about 30 minutes away from Fort Wayne also (Kendallville, home of the East Noble Knights). Somehow I missed all of the Jah Leh story, too. Maybe because Homestead is 6A and EN is 4A? What a coincidence; all my buddies and I go on our yearly golf trip to Kendallville, Indiana. Every year.

talking to a bellevue fan today about the football season. Bellevue AD apparently is crying the blues because the Middle Division of the SBC wont schedule them. Who do they want to play from the middle? my guess is Huron? they already scrimmage oak harbor and port clinton. Huron and Perkins play week one week two huron and sandusky play huron im told is locked in week 3 with streetsboro ? for this upcoming year bellevue is going with west holmes the 4th week bellevue has shelby the final week bellevue has start huron has margaretta Edison is not going to play bellevue and i'm sure they wouldve been very upfront about it from the beginning. vermilion? why would bellevue want to play them? So i said, why not let fremont ross in? He says there too big. I said but you're asking smaller teams to do the same thing you refuse to do. and why do we have 3 divisions if we want to play each other in every game? I told the guy to tell your AD to shut the hell up. First - Fremont was unanimously voted against joining the SBC. Secondly, revisit those numbers to put this in perspective. Competitive Balance Numbers for Fall 2017 Fremont - 461 - DII Bellevue - 267 DIV Shelby - 254 DIV Port Clinton - 253 DIV Vermilion - 234 - DIV Edison - 208 DV Huron - 207 DV Oak Harbor - 197 DV You do not need a calculator to see what's glaring about your point-of-view. King- First, you know how "unanimous votes" go....Clyde and Bellevue were against Ross coming in...others had concerns about their size. A few wanted them and a bunch in the River Division didn't care. I had friends in the room. it was unanimous when it was clear it would not pass, because the River Division would stay out of the way and vote whichever way everyone else did. As for the reminder, you can now take Shelby out of the Bay Division, as they will be gone as soon as they can. Now what you do? Genoa and Woodmore aren't coming. The only answer of who fits geographically, has all the sports, and actually WANTS to come to the SBC is only one school: Fremont Ross. The Bay division can't stay at 5 schools (particularly for football). It just can't.

I edited the original post to include the possible adjustments to the MOAC for basketball season. Has anybody heard anything about North Union not playing an MOAC basketball schedule this season or Shelby switching to the MOAC for basketball season? Will it be like when Upper switched and only had to play football? Obviously nothing is official with Shelby even switching conferences but there has been a lot of talk on here about it happening. 1. It will be official tonight. 7 PM Board Meeting in Shelby. Shelby will be a future MOAC member by tomorrow morning. 2. 0 chance the switch happens this season. Standard is 2 years...1 year if it can be worked out. But all have to agree....shelby..north union...all three conferences. Lot of moving parts there. Expect North Union to stay in at least 1 year. Maybe 2. That's it.

Uh....didn't Pleasant make the D3 State Title Game 2 years ago? They lost the District Final last year and won't be as strong, but they are no bums. As for Shelby GBB, they don't appear to have even won a District Title in a decade, and lost the D2 District Semi by 15 last year to Norwalk. So, when a team doesn't even have a District title in a decade, what makes them so historicallly dominant. Their VB got bounced in the first playoff game, BTW. So I'm not sure why there is a discussion about needing more competition. As for Ontario in GBB, they were bounced in District Semis as well, and have not played in a District Final since 2013. Not sure about either of their talent coming up, but still. Girls soccer is where Ontario will be dominant. And Boys Basketball. You must be forgetting that Clear Fork has girls soccer. I'm not forgetting. Clear Fork isn't being mentioned. But you are big on semantics, so you are right. Ontario will have to battle the Colts for the MOAC Girls Soccer crown. Back to football I presume.

I thought we were discussing boys bball. Trust me, I'd have much preferred to be in the NOL for girls bball the last 2 years. Nobody in the NOL, not even Shelby, would have won the MOAC. I know this is a football thread buy your way off base. Unless your counting the schools like Cardington and nothmor from the other division NU and RV are the only two teams worth salt in the moac girls basketball. Shelby and Ontario will be tops in the new moac for some time based not the talent of teams in that league coming up. But if someone wants to debate that On the girls thread....Lol 😎😎 Uh....didn't Pleasant make the D3 State Title Game 2 years ago? Shelby has accepted the MOAC invitation from the NU departure. The big question right now is when - 2018-19 or 2019-20. That's not true. Shelby is having a Board Meeting on Monday night and will Accept it then. But it is a done deal. You are right about that.

Who will take shelby's spot in sbc if those goes through? If Shelby leaves the year Danbury & Gibby come in, then 6-6-7 makes the most sense with Willard bumping up. If Shelby leaves the year before and nobody else comes in, a 2-division arrangement of 8-9 or 9-8 makes more sense to me. Time to invite Genoa & Woodmore... I will say it a second time. Genoa is NOT leaving the NBC.

Apparently, North Union is following Jonathan Alder to another league. Agree with the lateral move point. Less travel but there is more instability in the MOAC. There may be moving pieces in the SBC but it's a stable group of schools. Sometimes you do not know what you are getting into until after you're in it and I believe that is what will happen if Shelby makes that move. It's been reported that NU took a vote and is staying in the MOAC for the time being. Just because you might want to follow a school doesn't mean it's possible. The new league has to want you, the league must have an opening. Willard- Thats not playing correct. It is scheduled to be voted on at the North Union Board Meeting on July 17th. Unless something has changed since earlier this month. That's was the plan.
